Timemore Chestnut Slim Hand Grinder Overview

Established in 2012, Timemore specialise in meticulously designed and manufactured manual coffee equipment. Today, we take a closer look at the Chestnut Slim hand grinder. Portable, ergonomic and capable of a consistent, efficient grind for all filter brewing methods, it’s the finer details that set the Chestnut Slim apart from its entry level counterpart, the C2. This includes all-metal components, with the exception of the wooden grip, which snaps satisfyingly into place on the handle thanks to a magnetic mount.

Very thorough video. I have a question though, how do you precisely determine the "0" click position? I have a hard time finding it with my slim since the resistance difference I felt was not like "on/off" switch, but rather an increasing gradient.

Thanks for watching, Nathaniel, and great question.
It is hard to say with 100% confidence, as you can often feel like you’re able to tighten more. Turn the adjustment dial clockwise until you notice the crank handle does not swing freely anymore, you don't need to tighten as much as you physically can.
Treat this zero point as where the burrs are touching and creating enough resistance for the handle not to spin when you hold the grinder so that the crank handle juts out at a 90 degree angle.

Great video. Quick question, how does the grind profile compare to the C2? Also, the recommendation for Clever Dripper being 20 clicks, is that while using the water first method, or a coffee first method?

Overall, we’d say that the grind profiles are very similar, but that the build quality of the Slim in terms of material durability and stability will mean that over time it will deliver a tighter, more consistent grind than the C2.
That recommendation is for our standard, water-first method.

We don't at the moment, but this we're working on it.

In my experience these burrs are no good for dialing in espresso despite their E&B labeling. Their notch adjustments are too coarse so its possible you'll get a shot that runs too slow on one setting and too fast on the adjacent setting. All of this of course depends on your specific basket. But you won't know until you try. Perhaps it works put perfectly on particular setting but just know the fact that when you do need to adjust the grind (as the beans age the grind needs to slight adjustment), and in such situations you may run into the problem.
Anyway the manual says espresso setting is from 6-13 clicks while brew settings are from 18 and up.

For filter brewing, you'll be more than fine with the standard sinless burrs.
