I love this! New Line produced Seven, and as sister company of Warner Bros, they could retcon it into the Batman universe. Morgan Freeman here is like a younger Jim Gordon. The scene where he has lunch with Gwyneth Paltrow and talks her around over her concerns about living in such a foul, corrupt city, and bringing children into that world, and the way he reassures her about not giving up, about there always being hope. That's Jim Gordon, in a nutshell.

Lol I was just thinking how the city in the film reminded me a lot of Gotham City throughout as I was watching the film. The high level of crime, the living conditions of a lot of the people of the city, how it’s dark and moody and always raining throughout the film etc. There are a lot of similarities. Even the fact that John Doe’s motive was partially made up of wanting to punish corrupt individuals in society for their sins. It just summarises the type of individuals you would see in Gotham City and this part of his motive just screams Joker - where Arthur ends up killing those who did wrong to him and finally fights back after how he felt society treated him and others like him.
Possible timeline: -Gotham city 1976: The Wayne’s are murder, Bruce leaves Gotham, and Somerset joins the Gotham PD. -1988: Carmine Falcone rules the city, Bruce Wayne is training in East Asia. -1995: Mills joins the GCPD while Somerset is about to retire, the events of Se7en happen, Somerset retires and Jim Gordon arrives in Gotham city. -2001: Mills is in Arkham, Bruce Wayne returns, the sloth victim dies and the doctor who operated on him goes crazy from dealing with him and is revealed to be Dr. Jonathan Crane. -2002: Batman is now on the scene, Carmine Falcone still rules the streets, the first costume villain appears in the form of the Scarecrow, a new serial killer is on the scene known as The Riddler and Gordon goes to a dying Somerset and asks him for help with The Riddler.
The Riddler from The Batman 2022 film gave the exact same vibes to Batman, what Jon Doe said to Detective Mills in Se7en... Riddler: "You're part of this Too... " Batman: "How am I part of this?" Riddler: "You'll see... " Jon Doe: "I can't wait for you to see it, I really can't..." Mills: "Well, be sure to let me know when it happens... Because I sure wouldn't wanna miss it" Joe Doe: "Oh... Don't worry... You wont... You won't miss a thing...
This is one of the more solid fan theories that I've seen so far. I use to read a comic called Hellshock that was written and illustrated by Jae Lee. To me it was the comic equivalent of Seven. I also thought would've made a fantastic Spawn film. As for Batman why not.
My fan theory: Mills is allowed to side step prison and quits the force after the brutal death of his wife and unborn child. He's broken beyond comprehension but tries to live a normal life. He changes his name, gets an office job and a nice apartment. He tries to bury his guilt and pain by buying nice things to an almost obsessive level. But his broken psyche can't be mended for long and he begins to develop insomnia. The sleepless nights take hold and Mills begins to crack bit by bit. He starts losing time due to blackouts, waking up in a dilapidated abandoned house every now again. Its always the same house. He tries and tries to keep his normal life together but the darkness from his past is too hard to just ignore and one day he just snaps. The broken Mills and the fake in denial Mills come head to head. And start a fight club.
You could even take this a step further as it could be taken as an origin story for the Joker. David Mills final moments, when they say that they will get him the help that he needs, could be his first visit to Arkham Asylum. After having his world shattered by the death of his pregnant wife in such a brutal manner, his mind followed. Years of therapy and/or torture was repressed by the doctors there to only be released again by one particular psycho therapist, Johnathon Crane, ie Scarecrow. The combination of his current psychosis, the nightmare drug of Crane, and the anarchy that followed made him completely lose his mind and rationalize that the world should just burn. This could explain many of abilities of the character in The Dark Night. Police are trained in hand to hand(the pencil scene) firearms (shooting at the bat mobile), driving(after escaping the police) and several other skills shown in the movie by the Joker. His familiarity with police procedure (response times at the beginning with the buses and while he is in custody), knowing the honor guard ritual, and why they can't make an ID off of him (he erased his own files). All these things are within the wheelhouse of an inner city cop. As for the scars and where he got them, likely self inflicted while in a drug fueled blitz thanks to his lovely psycho psycho. But I really don't have anything to back that up.
Which is a sign it is definitely NOT in New York "New York' is a Style of Pizza... If a Pizza Place in Gotham (or anywhere) 'specializes' in New York Style, they could easily go with 'New York Pizza' as their shop name to promote this idea... Considering the size of NYC, calling yourself 'New York Pizza' in New York City would be generic
Has anyone (and I'm sure they have) noticed that in the 1989 BATMAN the guy that plays Joker's 'Number 1' also played in the GOTHAM t.v. series? Although, I don't know what character he plays in the series, he does wear the same trench coat and fedora style hat. Interesting.
I typically don't really like stuff like this. These fan theories usually reach way too far. But you hit the nail on the head about the tonality of the 2 cities. Awesome vid, man

Maybe Matt Reeve’s Batman is connected? At least in our own head canon it can be (It is in mine) considering the aesthetic of both films are very similar I’d totally except an official answer that it is indeed or at least heavily inspired by Se7en
Commissioner gordon the early years. Also what about brad Pitt getting all jaded because of his wife and drowning his sorrows in chilli dogs and becoming detective bullock
Well both are heavily noire versions heavily inspired by newyork city life. But im pretty sure gotham isnt near a desert where as 7 has a desert portrayed by the mojave far north of LA but made to look just outside so i think 7 is more LA Noire
Yeah of course. I think these film theory videos are more confirmation bias of acknowledging elements that support the theory and ignoring parts that don’t. This video is no different to me. Se7en definitely isn’t in Gotham, but fans can imagine it and find small clues supporting this if they want.

So the detective is Clearance Fox. Luscious twin brother!
Possible timeline:
-Gotham city 1976: The Wayne’s are murder, Bruce leaves Gotham, and Somerset joins the Gotham PD.
That sounds awesome
THIS is my hed canon
For the longest time, 7 reminded me of the long Halloween
Back when 7even was released Pitt was on an absolute tear , great work after great work
Fight club
Sleepers
7even
Hands up who thinks Matt Reeves has seen this.
I don’t have hands
In the scene with the FBI agent, there's literally a sign on the window that says New York Pizza
It may be a restaurant that sells New York style pizza, doesn't necessarily mean it's in New York.
That means it's definitely not New York, no one would have that sign here lol
Also, the opening track to the movie is Nine Inch Nails "Closer (Precursor)" ...PRECURSOR? Hmmm 😏
no lie i thought the Gothem series was going to take this type of approach.
My God. A Fincher-directed Batman would be an absolute game-changer.
The Riddler from The Batman 2022 film gave the exact same vibes to Batman, what Jon Doe said to Detective Mills in Se7en...
Riddler: "You're part of this Too... "
Batman: "How am I part of this?"
Riddler: "You'll see... "
Jon Doe: "I can't wait for you to see it, I really can't..."
Mills: "Well, be sure to let me know when it happens... Because I sure wouldn't wanna miss it"
Joe Doe: "Oh...
I love it. Just for the fact he winds up finding another girl in fight club which is kinda when he starts going back to normal
And then he becomes a Batman villain- The Narrator.
WHATS IN THE BOX? I’m Batman!!!
Except at 1:55 the sign behind the guys head says New York pizza
Which is a sign it is definitely NOT in New York
"New York' is a Style of Pizza... If a Pizza Place in Gotham (or anywhere) 'specializes' in New York Style, they could easily go with 'New York Pizza' as their shop name to promote this idea... Considering the size of NYC, calling yourself 'New York Pizza' in New York City would be generic
Raging Bull is set in Cleveland before Howard the Duck.
Se7en and Fight Club are easily in the top 10 of all time
Nightcrawler? Lol .... godfather 2 is the hands down GOAT
This is amazing but I was thinking the same thing the other day,and totally agree.
You know... This would actually work.
Ok... you sold me... I’m a believer.
Incidentally I figured it was Seattle because of the rain
Has anyone (and I'm sure they have) noticed that in the 1989 BATMAN the guy that plays Joker's 'Number 1' also played in the GOTHAM t.v. series? Although, I don't know what character he plays in the series, he does wear the same trench coat and fedora style hat. Interesting.
Man..watching these high really makes me like it more
After the batman trailer i could definitly see this
I don't know if you do Tv theories. But what about Walter White being a grown up Malcolm?
cp1925 I’d love to hear your theory on this if you don’t mind
Yeah he aged 40 years in 10. Great “theory”
@@bigbysnow6306 cracks a hell of a drug
Don’t you mean Blue Sky?
@@Anw4rr10rah yeah! Derp! Silly me. Crystal Blue Persuasion
The commercial at the end was epic.
Every point you gave made me develop each point further into the DC batman world, how this could be put into a Gotham PD comic or series
This is my favorite one of your theories!
I typically don't really like stuff like this. These fan theories usually reach way too far. But you hit the nail on the head about the tonality of the 2 cities. Awesome vid, man
Now I want to see an R rated Batman film, that focuses on the detective noir side of the character.
Wow the first video I have watched on your channel and I am hooked. This does make sense and I look forward to seeing your other videos!
imagine this as a dark origin story for Jim Gordon his first months on the job
Awesome
Really enjoyed the theory, but the ad at the end made my damn day.
1:57 New York pizza
Up next, Se7en is a prequel to Blade Runner
Other than Logan, the Dark Knight trilogy are my favorite superhero movies. And Seven is one of my all time favorite movies. I had never looked at these in the way you have laid out and omg your so spot on. Everything you said makes complete sense. Nice job!
At 1:54 if you look to the left you can see something that’s says New York pizza, though the pizza place could be advertising that it has New York pizza and not that a pizza place is in New York. Anyway great video
There's a reason why Se7en never told us what city it was set in: because it didn't matter!
What a brutal and amazing movie, its hard to watch but a fucking classic!!!
One of my favorite movies, and I VERY rarely watch it. The film is drenched in dread. Classic though, for sure.
Wow, this aged well! 👍
We'll it wouldn't suprise me if his head opened up and a ufo flew out. ;D
Excellent video. I always say my two favorite movies of all time Se7en & Heat got together and had a baby, and they named it The Dark Knight
That Pennyworth show is basically a prequel to Michael Cain's Alfred from TDK Trilogy.
Yup this is my head canon now
David Fincher Batman would literally make my life complete. Same goes for Tarantino Deadpool, or Nolan Doctor Strange, Scorsese Joker.
What about rami strange?
I knew it happened in one of those EUs. I was leaning towards a joker riddler type 10 years before Batman begins
You could argue Sleepers takes place in Hell's Kitchen before Daredevil
1:54 - A sign that states “New York Pizza”. ?????
Gimme any franchise and attach Fincher's name to it and I'll be like a kid at christmas. But Batman would be the ultimate one!
OK.
Alien.
