Adding my comment back up. The best testiment to the performance is the reaction of the orchestra. Let's be honest. It's Chopin, it's Polonaise - it's one of the best known pieces in Poland (for many DECADES one of the most popular radio show in the country used a snippet of it as the intro. A few generations grew up listening to this piece). So any member of that orchestra knows this piece back and forth, they listened to it thousands of times. But this performance was something special - and it's not even about technical mastery which is beyond any doubt. In my mind it's abouit the fact that Seong-Jin Cho seems to be UNDERSTANDING the spirit of this piece. It's not about ''playing the right notes at the right time' (as many on YT do, sounding like a musical box) it's about pouring your heart and soul to it (aka 'one buttock playing' by Benjamin Zander - look it up on youtube, it's an amazing TED talk from many years ago). I've heard this piece many times, including - many years ago - performed by Halina Czerny-Stefańska, but this performance just chocked me up. I have tears in my eyes every time I listen to this performance.

But I'm not her dad, so do whatever makes you and her happy

Too many great pianists doing this piece wrong by holding back too much or exaggerating. Seong Jin Cho here shows us the full tapestry of colors and tones Chopin is capable of ! Of course it helps that this is a recent HQ recording and therefore everything sounds more clear compared to older recordings of this amazing piece. I wonder where Seong Jin Cho is now... he clearly deserves to be well known, and lets face it, most people have only heard of Yuja Wang and Lang Lang out of Asia.
