What a life you have Sam! No stressful job to report in to everyday. No strict schedule to follow. No traffic to fight. No rat race to deal with. A chance to see the world while you’re still young and a girl in every port. Who could ask for more? Good job Sam! You’ve figured it out! 👍
LIKE posted at 4:36 after you cracked me up with the "...what a beautiful log..." observation, besides having started this episode drilling holes in a boat. Now the day can be 'logged' as 'complete'. Sam and his Friendly Harem.
Would love to see the bare basics of sailing. Your videos and a few others have awakened a new interest. Not sure I could do the solo sailing thing, but man it has me dreaming! I have an app in VR to try and learn to sail but find it a bit janky to use so have not done a whole lot with it. I am sure I speak for others as well who would appreciate and love a simple how to video of the basics of sailing!
you really need to get a small dinghy like a sunfish or something to learn to sail... I'm afraid you probably wont fully understand until you get wacked in the head by the boom a time or two. I would hate for you to try for your first time on a big boat and find out the hard way.
If by solo sailing you just mean around a lake or intercoastal waters, it's really not that bad and you should just do it. I got a Catalina 25 swing keel as a first boat last year and learned on my own with youtube videos. None of my friends and family know how to sail. If you get a small and light enough sailboat for your first, there really aren't bad consequences for messing up so you can learn at your own pace. Now i've met people in the marina and started racing which has really accelerated the learning curve. Gonna sail from Louisiana to the florida keys soon.
@@Matt-ug3kr For me it is the idea of just getting on a boat and going. Had I the resources and freedom I would just love to sail down the east coast of North America and just keep going south, stop as I want, explore when and where I want. Cross an ocean for a giggle and continue on living the sweet free nomadic life. Of course I idealize, it is a dream after all, but it sure does sound great.
@@quasarix it is for the Quest 2 VR called MarineVerse Cup. A racing simulation but also supposed to be very realistic and it has a training portion to teach how to sail
Man! If you're passing by Gothenburg (Sweden) maybe you can teach me how to sail haha Your videos are really great, been watching almost every single one since I bought my boat a few weeks back. Definitely make a how to sail video I need it!
There are tons of sailing tutorials out there, but they are all basic and easy. What we need is all the hard stuff: reading chanbel bouys, reading charts, planning passages... it's boring content, but rare and essential
Love the content Sam!! You've inspired me to buy a sailboat and learn how to sail. Already in the process of transferring to FL with my job. Ima stay with my aunt until i can find a boat and fix her up!! Thank you so much man, ever since you inspired me to live my dream, my depression is at a all time low, and the closer i get to moving the more excited i get!! Keep up the great work and maybe ill see you out there.
Great Video Sam,. Yes please do produce a "how to sail" Video if you have time. Your plans for Summer sailing sounds great. cant wait to watch your progress
That rock on the beach was really weird. It looked like one of those trolls from the movie The Hobbit. The ones that turn to stone if daylight touch them!
Yes. Yes. Yes please. Do sailing tutorials. I have been planning to retire and buy a sailboat for about 10 years. I retire in four weeks! So, by this fall I will be in Mexico or the Caribbean looking for a boat. But I’ve never sailed. Lol. So any good basic tutorials before then would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the great video Sam. 😎
@Sam Holmes Sailing I would love to see a video of how to sail starting with rigging the sails. I bought a sailboat that needed new lines and sails so I'm at a point where I need to both rig and learn to sail it.
I say this with no greed or envy. I'm happy at least some people get to really live life. Watching your sailing videos I really admire what you're able to do. This is the type of life you look back on with old age and hold your head with pride. Carpe Diem.
So weird having started following you a while ago with some huge solo crossing, to suddenly see you in a harbor and stretch of ocean i more or less grew up in. Awesome!
The backwards winch is a neat find. I’m not certain all winches do it, but you can reverse the pawls on many major brands to reverse their direction of rotation.
I'd love to see your version of how to sail. I"ve watched others. But, I've always enjoyed your perspective. I bought a 22' O'Day two summers ago. Still need to learn how to sail. Thanks as always!!
Fun to se you exploring the Søgne area, sam. I actually had my boat in that same marina 2 years ago and taught myself sailing among those skerries. Thanks for sharing!
Sam I enjoyed this video and your training for your lady. I'm also happy that you left the catamaran back there in the Bahamas for some lost soul to take over. At least this boat is 23' with a cabin. Now please keep you and her safe with plenty of rations when you head out. Cheers.
How to sail would be great. I'm in Australia and wife has started the whole obsession with sailing boats now so its only a matter of time. Really glad you are back with Pickles!
I love your content I hope you show more of sailing. I live in the desert but can’t wait until I can buy a sailboat and learn to sail! Thanks for documenting your life adventures!!
Thanks Sam, you’ve inspired me to sail again. You are super positive and would be great to sail with! Have fun. I like the little boat. Might have to get one myself Yes I would love the how to sail video AND the best little yacht to sail / purchase that I can spend the night on with my little one 👍
Hello Sam into your lady friend it was nice of you to take your time to teach her one day I would like to learn to sell and get a boat one that size seems like it would be the perfect size to learn on but yeah a nice teaching how to sail video would be good that would be very interesting to see new people learning that would be awesome and you would be the one to inspire people to actually do it for real but yeah that would be a nice thing Sam we would definitely watch that just make sure they hide the drills because we all know you like to make holes LOL. Anyway that woman has a nice looking little boat and she seemed to do very well on her docking the boat. Anyway Sam you have a good one out there God bless you stay safe
Gosh what an amazing place to sail. In Every time I think I give up on my dream of sailing your videos draw me right back in. A "how to sail" series from you would be awesome.
Kind of weird as you were saying you were teaching her how to sail I was thinking how cool it would be to have you do a how to sail video! I appreciate your adventures you are truly an inspiration to us all wanna to be sailers
First I have to say your channel is one of my favorites. I really think if you did a how to sail series it would be a hit. I sailed a Sunfish at camp when I was a kid but I now have that dream to buy a boat and go from Florida into the the Panama Canal and go from there. Big fan of you and the Pickled Herring. Safe travels.
How to sail sounds like a good bet and I’m sure will help a lot of us out. Plan/route for the summer sounds great too, you’ll have to stop by around here for some flying and beers!
You should make a solo-sailing tips video. Like how to setup your boat, things to bring, and other tips that someone who wants to solo a boat should know.
You make a bit of a complicated process really simple, whether sailing or working on the myriad of things that can and do go wrong with a sailboat. Good video. Scenery not so bad either....
I'd love to see a video explaining basic sailing maneuvers. Heave to, reef the sails, things like that I hear you say all the time but I'm not sure exactly what they mean and how they work.
yes pls a 'how to sail video'! Just bought a small leisure 17 and really motivated and excited to learn to sail. Getting some tips and instructions from you will motivate me even more I am sure!
Go for it Sam, everyday is a learning day on the water, upgrading this year to Jeanneau Melody from my Westerly Pembroke, I would have loved to have met you in west cork last year with my buddy Tom⛵️❤️
Sailing a 30 footer is the same as a 21 footer to be honest.. just common sense and never go faster then you willing to hit something. Bigger sails require more strength yes.. but then they invented winches for those.
A girl in every port, Sam is a true Pirate !
The plans sound great. I'd love to see your sailing tutorials.
Emphasis on more than one 😁
