We need to give credit to the two INTERNATIONAL rookies on the snareline, both 18 years old. Andres (who marched X 23) was from Colombia 🇨🇴 and Xander was from the Netherlands 🇳🇱. These guys were monsters and we wouldn’t of been the line we were without them. We had people from all over, Justin as a vet from Broken City, Dawson from Bluecoats, JN and Dak as vets. What a crazy year

This line was amazing. They should be proud of what they put on the field this year. Those opening licks were unreal.

This is my favorite battery of all time. The writing and ridiculous cleanliness of the battery is my favorite by a long way. They got great tone from the drums and really let them speak. This battery was also incredible at emoting and playing with a lot of expression. You can tell watching these guys that they were having a blast out there and it was truly amazing to watch.

Guys thanks for this. As someone who is a fan and seen Travis develop these lines to the next level I was really annoyed to hear people dogging Crown percussion when Mike Jackson was hired this year. Like people forgot that this line and that 2018 line existed and seem to think all Crown percussion sections held the corps back. Not true. And this tape proves it.

I was seat partners with the timpanist that year. I’ll confirm, dude went nuts on those drums. Excellent timpanist.

I somehow convinced the other guys on stage at 16:25 to whip during finals week until someone on staff told us to take it out… Fortunately, that didn’t happen 😏

Y’all remember 2018 as well? Felt like they are up there as well. Often forgotten, but highest placing perc until 2023

I fully believe that if Jeff had’ve been able to go out and actually sample and critique the battery instead of being stuck on the sideline, they would’ve made a push for top 2 in Percussion. Which likely pushes the corps score as a whole up to 3rd

Man oh man, that drill was...BONKERS! And then to have to play while running around like that. Nuts!
I realize "old school" means something entirely different coming from me but I'd love if you guys did 1990 BD. I think they got 4th overall that year - I'm guessing the lowest score they had in a long, long time - and the show was so cool. The drumline was ultra clean and the feature was both entertaining and challenging. IIRC, Pete said even though he won with whoever he marched for the following year, it's the '90 BD show everyone asks him about.

No disrespect to legend Mike Jackson but you don't fire the guys that produced 2019's batterie.

With this rule, there's 2 issues causing a lot of stuff to not get read well. One is that a lot of groups don't stage their drum lines in the right spots to have the judge be able to read the moments. This has been a rule for 3 seasons now, so it really suprises me that a lot of groups still aren't good at staging. The other reason, is that because of the rule where judges can't go on the field now, judges have started to not travel around as much as they used to. I'm not sure if they're lazy or not but I've not seen that many judges take advantage of the fact that they're allowed to go up on the field behind the yard numbers. A lot of judges as of recent stand in the same area during a show.

Something that would be interesting you guys can do is a “If you liked this line, you may like this line-“ type of video where you two shoot the shit and talk about batteries / shows either of you liked and other batteries / shows that are similar in nature or something. It’d be something no one else can really do but you two tbh

He really likes good compositional choices. He said the exact same thing for Phantom 2006 in their loud part of the ballad where it was just brass playing

I would petition to get the drum judge on the field. Either that or develop some sort of directional mic to focus on the battery. It’s a real problem that should be addressed for the sake of fair competition.

Visual community doesn’t care about fair competition. They want to see a clear picture of their product.

Jeff Sacktig closer drill means you lose 5 lbs everytime you run it. One thing I love to do is follow a tuba player who's hauling ass and staying within the form. Is very impressive doing all that and still playing with a good sound
