Jack is SO right about Ken! It sickens me how Betty and Emily think he is a saint. In reality he is a failure and a pompous , arrogant, condescending, jerk as well
Yes, Emily is almost a one-woman Ken Barlow fan club, but then again: she did marry Ernest, and he was hardly an Adonis. Also during their marriage Emily and Ernest had many squabbles, but as soon as he was killed, she started to treat him like a saint. She just idealizes some people, Percy being an exception.
@@carasmith549 How right, she is the Ken Barlow fan club, it's tiresome. I've seen the Emily and Ernest years and she was regularly having a go at him, trying to impose her values on him. She must have been attracted to Ken's pomposity, and went along with his usual ploy of making himself the victim in situations he created.

I love the subtle way a Rovers scene shifts to different characters referring to something that’s just been said, like Jack with his Ken’s half a bitter rant, then that’s what Derek orders lol, perhaps unnoticed by some viewers. The soil plot reminds me of that episode of The Young Ones - yes we’ve got a video 😂

Hotheaded Alf Roberts is so unreasonable in his behaviour in the face of a bit of competition. And as for his treatment of Reg Holdsworth - his tenant - that could easily be illegal: storming into the flat and destroying the man's belongings! Alf could be kind (occasionally), but when he's in his belligerent mood, he is absolutely hateful. No wonder he kept having heart attacks, his own personality was killing him.
Alf Roberts is one of the most unpleasant characters to ever appear in Corry nothing more than an an overgrown spoilt brat,pity he didn’t get the push much earlier.

Got to say can't stand the Kimberley and Curly storyline...my god her whiny voice and greeting face does your head in. It's a right snooze fest and so is Flic, her sister and Steve as well. Only hanging in there now for Bet, the rest can do one ;-).
Hang on in there.. Julie Goodyear as Elizabeth Theresa Lynch is always worth it, despite the dross endured in between! 😉

Bet , makes it for me. The one liners between her and Alec are brilliant at times and some of the acting between them in the more tender moments is magnificent and very moving. I should say I also like Rita and Betty.

😮 I was thinking she didn’t have the voice of a 15-year-old girl. She may have looked young but sounded more like Hyacinth Bucket.
It's always okay the other way around since Hollywood in the 50s ..... I'm glad that corrie has older women with younger men, I be like, "Yayyyyyyyyy at last lastttttt!!!" But let those involved be at least 18 and above, me thinks

I actually love Vera. I don't like her spiteful, bullying side, but there's noone as fun. I love it when she goes off on one, she's a scream. And in her house with Jack, I feel a tiny bit of the joy I used to get from Hilda and Stan, counting their pennies and yelling at each other while trying to make ends meet.
I love Vera. A much underrated character. When I went to the set I proudly had my photo taken outside their mock Tudorbethan house

Vera has a heart of gold. She craves a family unit deep down. I love her search for a Terry substitute. She has Curly and later Tyrone. The family unit means more to her than a few pounds for rent.

I must admit Vera has always annoyed me, she's a nasty bully most of the time. But her relationship with Curly is sweet. She's taken him in like a son. I love the combo of Jack, Vera and Curly.
