@@souschefharshibar well I have been cooking for a while so I have multitasking down by now. I make the menu every week and devote about four hours each weekend in cooking all the dal and sabzis. I cook fresh rice each day. I also cook rotis in bulk and freeze in small packs. I thaw them out as needed. I know it's not fresh but it works. I am from North India so always have coriander chutney, pickle, dahi available as accompaniments 😊 PS: I do cook enough so that I can freeze some. Then once a month we eat out of all the items from the freezer.
My husband is an ABCD but I grew up in Bombay. But now We live in the states. And I do the same. Also another thing you can do is make a sauce and keep it in your refrigerator. You can pretty much use it as a gravy for any Indian dish. Heat oil, add chopped onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic paste and all the masalas one by one. Cool it for 10-15 minutes and let it cool down. You can either grind it as a fine paste or use it as is for egg curry, chicken curry or pretty much any curry
I am from Assam in India and have been living in the US since 2017. I do the exact same thing for meal prep. It lasts me an entire week coz I do give in to temptation and eat out 1-2 times a week.
My daal starts as a light version... just boiled with some salt. I use red lentil (musoor) I have it with pure mustard oil. Gradually through the week i add different spices(kari pata mustard seeds and garlic, tomatoes and jeera etc) I usually end up with daal pora by the weeked and have it with panta bhaat. I am bengali btw. So this is how we had daal through the week growing up.
What I do is that I cook two different types of meals, typically one for lunch and one for dinner for the week. This time, I did a thick daal and pasta. I take the pasta for lunch at uni (easier to pack and heat) and the daal I eat after frying the store-bought parathas for dinner at home. I change this up all the time- last week it was chicken curry and rice + hot dogs, then there are egg sandwiches + fried rice or potato salad + chicken wraps. etc. I am very very new to cooking and I live on a budget so this is all very good, lasts long and doesn't require a ton of groceries either (this week I only bought a pack of frozen veggies, eggs, milk, sausages, bread, pasta sauce, pasta, onion and garlic, came to be like CAD 25 for the whole week and more. Everything else I had bulk bought like 3 months ago and it's probably gonna last me 4ish more months)
I Chop all the veggies every weekend make tomato puree cubes and green chilli cubes for instant use basically I prep everything prior to make my cooking time short
the yt algorithm gods brought your video up on my feed and i'm so grateful! i'm so tired of seeing westernized meal preps and was so happy to see an indian version. please keep making more from time to time :+)
Very cool idea of meal prepping Indian food. No one ever thought of it. Great going sister. Possibilities are infinite based on which region cooking is in style for that week, alternating atta makes it even more healthy.
I meal prep a bit differently. I make an onion tomato gravy base and dough for chapatis once a week and then mix them with my protein/veggie of choice and make fresh chapatis with it !

As a Telugu ABCD I love this video!!! I grew up eating pappu and bendakaya fry so this feels like the ultimate comfort meal prep. (Also the avakaya at the end is a MUST!)
If you precook the Okra/ladyfingers in a Microwave for 8-10 minutes before frying you went get that mucilaginous mess if its undercooked. You can also use that irfryer to toast of the Okra if you like it crispy Both these can reduce actual cooking time. Another thing is to add peas and various other legumes to the Dhal - if you cookthem up with spice you can just add different legumes to the primary dhal to have a variety

My meals preps are similar but have more protein.indian style baked chicken ( maranated in yogurt our spices and even the chiken rub from trader joes sometimes) Pappu and some jalapeno chips. For carbs i do quinoa and rice mix as i get older hahah. Haaaa. Good food!
I don't hate meal prep but I would prefer rice to be fresh bcz it takes less time and it never reheats the same way. We eat same rice and daal anyway so I am fine with meal prepping daal. You know it depends on how much time you have. I know I can take out time so I'll cook daal bcz I grew up eating simple daal with no tadka on regular days and sometimes mom would add different tadka, tadka takes two minutes but I understand that in some jobs it's not about two minutes but the will to do anything extra so we either eat ordered food or don't eat and in that case full meal prep is perfectly fine
I think meal prepping is an inherent for us desi people. Make enough dal to last a week, make a big batch of veggies or meat every other day, cook fresh rice almost every day, mix and match with each meal. And you know what? That's perfect! No need for 14 Tupper wares in the fridge. A pro tip for gym bros and gals, make big batch of whatever you want, measure out the total protein and calories before cooking by weighing each ingredient. After cooking the food, weigh out the cooked food. Now just calculate nutrition per gram for that food. E.g. In 1000g of prepared fried rice, you've got a total of 50g protein and 800cal. The per gram nutrition would be Protein: 0.05g & Calories: 0.8 cal. Label it on the container or your phone. Whenever you take out a portion to eat, just weigh it and multiply the numbers to get an accurate nutrition per serving info every time. I do this and its very convenient.
I cook 1/4 cup rice and 1/4 lentils with ghee, cilantro and salt in a rice cooker with a lot of water. This is your porridge. Then I stir fry veggies or potatoes or spinach, etc and eat it with mango pickle. Sooooo freaking tasty and easy
@@souschefharshibar Paradoxically no ! In fact it lowers the glycemic index of rice by increasing resistant starch though when reheating dont go full blast to keep the resistant starch levels low. At least overnight refridegeration increases resistant starch significantly

A small suggestion, Instead of using refined salt (which is a slow poison to health) you can try Himalayan pink salt. Overall a very creative food prep video with clear cut explanation, sis

Can this sauce be used for lunch box recipes or do you think it will start to smell considering Indias weather?
If you're worried about the food spoiling, I'd recommend freezing the sauce instead so it preserves longer!
