Thanks for this! My daughter is so 'common sense' driven it was hard for me to get out of my own head and way to figure out how to make letter learning fun but now I am flooded with ideas! I think its basically go with the flow, be less formal and structured and go with that works. Cat, bat, mat. Not, "this is the letter A..." LOOOOOOOVVVVE THIS! thank you a ton!

Your video has been the most helpful actually showing the unedited truth of how it will look with a child. Thank you for this

This was a great video and I will definitely be looking into the sandpaper letters. The only thing I will say is that in Montessori "good job" is discouraged as the child learns to perform a task based on praise and approval rather than being motivated by the effort.

Thank you!! Your video was very helpful! Thank you for also including a link the sandpaper letters bc most of the ones available are small-sized. That's incredible that your daughter started reading at 2.5!! Congratulations, well done, mom!! 👏🏻👏🏻 As a mom myself, I understand us moms deserve a pat in a back too!

How can we ask children to identify sound to letter. the children later are not able to identify letters .Would it not be better to tell sound of the letter and the letter as it is.

Phonics is far more effective. I have not started teaching my daughter the alphabet at all. I simply use phonics sounds for every letter and at 21 months she can point out phonics sounds. Teaching the alphabet in order is outdated and not only takes longer but is monotonous for many kids

Sorry to say language evolves and does not get outdated . If sounds are identified with alphabets the children face a problem when they come eith articles number mames . The use of phonics is the blending of sounds where children lern how to say the word correct. We may have difference of oponion . I sure do not believe in aping anyone and see what is best suited to get a child to learn and grow. The point is how many have the vast knowledge of phonics to execute them well.

Hi Joy-Mari, there are so many different ways to teach a child how to read. Teaching phonics, rather than having a child memorize sight words, is a wonderful way for them to develop phonemic awareness and literacy. That's amazing that your daughter was able to read by the age of 2. I'm glad you found a method that worked for her!
