One was 4.2 gasoline and another o e was 3.0 tdi. The torque and efficiency of the diesel engine totally killed the meaning of gasoline engine in heavy vehicles. Diesel can tow and do stuff on rather low RPMs. But gasoline one was nice too in its own way. It was slightly more quiet but it took so much fuel and had not all that much power.

I love donot media but I don’t agree on convertibles suck. Actually they are amazing. I don’t race or go to track everyday in my life. So small drawbacks doesnt matter much but the positives and all the experience you have on a cabrio is much more valuable. Listening and seeing the places you visit listening your engine and egzaust note feeling the wind etc... And yea you dont need to open top in the middle of the day when the sun at top burning you. Convertibles for best for sunrise or summer evenings and nights. For me this video is just misleading information about convertibles.
I drove a convertible as a daily for a year, it was my very first car and I originally bought it from my dad, I have to agree that it wasn't a good daily driver (specially in the winter) but non the less convertibles are great! I had a great time in that car every single time I drove it. It wasn't fast and there were some issues like noise and water leaks but trust me when I say that there is no better feeling then when the sun is shining and you're driving on an empty stretch of road listening to some great tunes with your top down. To anyone who is thinking about buying a convertible I say do it! It's a great experience. However I agree that you shouldn't use it as a daily driver but more of a nice Sunday cruiser. I still own my convertible to this day and I'm not planning on selling it soon. I just love the way it drives. For those who would like to know, I own a 1992 audi cabriolet, 2.3 manual 5 cylinder (which btw sounds amazing with the roof off) Ps, love the videos!
Ain't that the truth. The worst is when someone busts out a window, or cuts open the top, to steal something cheaper than what they destroyed to get to it. Someone once busted the drivers side window of my wife's 68 fastback, to steal a $40 radar detector, and we had basic liability on it at the time. And the door and wing window, were both unlocked. $150 repair and clean up, plus having to order and ship the glass, over a cheap fuzz buster, and $6 in change from the ashtray. Someone cut through the soft half cab of my 73 Bronco once, to unlock the passenger side door, just to rummage through it, to see what they could find. Wasn't anything worth finding in it, out of habit, AND the drivers side was unlocked, when I parked it. I never locked that door, because the key didn't match, and I didn't have a key for that door. Went with a removable hard top after that, and got a new lock set.
@@kevinfox500 damn that really sucks I just got the “chunky butt” solara I love it so far the nice thing on it it has a lock on the trunk release and then the lock on the glove box so I’ve just been keeping stuff I don’t want stolen in them

@@daydayg007 Could have been worse. After I finished restoring my 73 F250, back in 94, I came out of class one night, and it was gone. Figured dad might have taken it, and walked the lot to look for his Mustang. Same with mom's Caravan. No dice. Called their place, both were at home, as were their cars. They used to borrow my truck sometimes, so I figured that may have been the case. Called LE, filed the report, and got a ride back to my place. Took the Crown Victoria to and from, the rest of the semester, or the 750. About a month after graduation, I got a suspension notice over close to 40 unpaid parking tickets, on a 73 Ford, plate #4747AK. My stolen truck. Called the PD, and city hall, and was able to find out where. Granted my copy of the report, my spare keys, and called a friend to drive me there, and waited. Truck showed up an hour later, and I walked over, got in, and took it back. "Owner" called the cops, as I drove to city hall, stopped out front, and walked in. He pulled in behind me, came in, showing a registration minus name. I had the title. Someone sold him the truck, using the registration, when the title was needed in my state. He gave up his keys, on the spot. Here's the funny part. The cop who wrote the tickets was the same one who took the report. And yes, he got an ass chewing from me, and the chief, over that fact. Once that was resolved, the city shifted the tickets to the driver, at the time, who had a record, and just kept the signed registration, as proof of ownership, but never went to DMV, and the suspension order was rescinded. It was an interesting few months.

Not mentioned is a convertible, top down, as a daily, will age you. Sun exposure, general air pollution and especially the exhaust of other cars while idling at a traffic light, etc. You do that day after day after day...invest in a big dumb floppy hat. You'll be glad you did (I drive a t-top MR2)
I’m surprised I didn’t see the Corvette mentioned! IIRC they were initially designed as convertibles and the rigidity isn’t as diminished as other convertibles for reasons I’m unaware of. The flutter of the canvas? I have never experienced this
Me either.
Jeep has it bad
@@ladainionbaker7459 yes well. Jeeps canvas is huge, very loosely fit and manually operated.
Jeep is actually one of my favorite cars. I’d love to get my hands on YJ with square headlights and coil spring upgrade. I think floppy canvas is part of that car’s character.
Engine upgrade would also be awesome. I would love to upgrade this car’s engine to MB or VW’s 2.0 turbo diesel. Would be a huge upgrade In Terms of car’s power and the amount of money spent at the pump.
As a European, I’m often a little surprised why some companies decide to produce gasoline trucks and suv-s.
I’ve had chance to try two Toyota Land Cruisers.
I love how they used a diagram of a SAAB convertible when talking about stiffness and handling at 4:02

I'll keep my convertible 🙂

Such and underrated comment. I'm hear for you bro
Mine poped up and never went down and I'm too lazy to repair it and enjoy a cabrio
I had a Bertone X 1/9 in college and I miss that targa so much. it was awesome

Yeah, there not great but for $4,000 I didn’t have much choice other than miata if I didn’t want to constantly wrench on jt
Extreme safety example: modern Peel P50 convertible. Watch B2B on the P50 if you don't see the issue here. Still want one tho
The cobra looks best with an open top, but as a convertible it looks dumb.
I know right? damn thing looks like it belongs in the wacky races.
Miss my Saab 900 convertible, mostly because it made me a Saab fanboy and it was fun in the summer.
SAAB FTW
I own a Saab 93 2004 convertible. And watched this video because of that. I am so happy they used it as a diagram for this vid!
I do don’t care about the practicality. Convertible is fun and wind in the hair.
Absolute performance doesnt matter when a Camry can do 60 in under 6 seconds.
Fun is what matters. Row your gears, drop the top.
I've had three Miatas over the years and now have a 370Z Roadster in the garage. Verts are not for everyone.
Why three miatas?

For those who would like to know, I own a 1992 audi cabriolet, 2.3 manual 5 cylinder (which btw sounds amazing with the roof off)
Ps, love the videos!
I'll let ya know how my experience goes, Im thinking daily driving a 94 miata
I feel like some missed cars that could’ve been talked about were the
Jeep CJs and Wranglers that are both convertible hard tops and soft tops.
I think my fav convertible is the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado one
Check the Cadillacs from the mid 70s to, they look really good as a convertible
i salute ya!!
Two rules of convertible ownership: 1. Never keep your doors locked. 2. Never keep anything you don't want stolen in your car.
@@kevinfox500 damn that really sucks I just got the “chunky butt” solara I love it so far the nice thing on it it has a lock on the trunk release and then the lock on the glove box so I’ve just been keeping stuff I don’t want stolen in them
A car is Not a SAFE. people break Windows to Steal in Cars.🤷🏻♂️
@@erict5154 Unless they are professionals. Pros don't need to break windows, or damage the ignition to take the car.
I spent several years as an insurance investigator, and one of the things I always did, about a year after new systems came out, was visit with people convicted of auto theft, and let them talk about how they plied their trade, and would ask how to work around some if the new systems. Some interesting innovations come out, to counter what the manufacturers do to lessen the odds of your car being taken. Same with motorcycles, and home security.
Smash and take, armature hour.
Shit I go top down always in my MR2

Convertibles are only cool if they were designed to be a convertible first. Come at me bro
Truth
Well, VW Golf Cabriolet MK1 and MINI Cooper R52S are really nice even those cars were designed as hard-top initially.
Sorry my dear but a continental cabriolet or a 6 series cabrio are simply stunning and they comes from a coupe body
I'm sorry guys, but I drive a miata 🤷🏼♂️
62 Lincoln continental conv looks great and it was after the hardtop.
But I mostly agree with you
Y'all are gonna get called out by Scotty Kilmer for that kove promotion lol.
I drive a 240sx convertible and one thing to consider is the lack of support for car parts that the coupe/hatch variants don’t have. While aftermarket companies come into play when trying to buy things like brakes, wiring, or door switches. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone selling window slider guides for that extra mini window or the modified brake switch no one knows existed until it broke.
The 2012 Nissan Murano convertible looks soo bad 😂
hay man don't diss my car.
Daniel McPherson nice car I have a weird fetish for that one convertible just because they are super rare and break necks
DaBo1Wonda The 3rd sadly that isn’t my real car. I was just pretending. I actually drive an NC Miata hardtop also a fairly fair car but doesn’t have that wow factor looks wise.

Convertibles allow to know what's going on around you... Hardtop drivers have a tendency to disconnect with what's happening around them, I know, they almost hit me all the time!
Pretty sure what's actually making someone disconnect with what's happening around them is the bmw/mercedes they're driving.

When I flew out to California a couple months ago, I ended up renting a convertible VW Beetle because I was an idiot and forgot to reserve my rental ahead of time. Anyway, putting the top up and down was as easy as pressing a button on the dash. I also didn't notice extra noise when the top was up.
Was it a modern VW Beetle?
Not mentioned is a convertible, top down, as a daily, will age you. Sun exposure, general air pollution and especially the exhaust of other cars while idling at a traffic light, etc. You do that day after day after day...invest in a big dumb floppy hat. You'll be glad you did (I drive a t-top MR2)
Hard tops are cocoons; rag tops surround you with the sounds of driving. Will never sell my NC Miata!

I’m surprised I didn’t see the Corvette mentioned! IIRC they were initially designed as convertibles and the rigidity isn’t as diminished as other convertibles for reasons I’m unaware of. I could be wrong, but that’s what I was told. I only settled for one when I got stationed in California, and I’ve yet to regret it once! I’ll wait to get a hard top when I get a C6 Z06 ;)
My dad had a 78 with "T Tops"
So cool. He also had the moon roofs. I miss that car.
Now we know why Formula 1 cars don't handle very well - no roof.

I have a BMW 650i xDrive Convertible, and I love it...
The Real Cigar Jefe i used to own a 2008 champagne 650i convertible with tan interior. Super girly spec but it had a 6 speed! Then got a white on blue Bentley gt convertible speed, and absolutely hated it mainly because it was outdated and the electronics were garbage. It always threw up faults, especially roof faults when it got cold and I couldn’t open or close the roof.
I HATE SUVs - love cornering hard and the visibility I have navigating heavy traffic. I prefer a hard top convertible currently drive a R230 SL. I hate when people assume someone bought a car for their perception - I couldn't care less about what anyone else thinks about what I drive.
Fun fact: the z4 coupe is actually heavier than the z4 roadster

I have been a 'ragtop guy' my entire life and every point he made about the pitfalls of ownership is spot on. At only one time was a convertible my 'Daily.' A Chrysler Town and Country that actually ran well, looked like crap and drove really nice. I did have a t-top car and that is a nice concession should you find the right one.
Ragtops are a romance, squeeky moldering parade floats for a Sunday drive with the Grandkids, now. What car does my Granddaughter want to borrow all the time? Grandma's old Allanté of course! We had the bolts done 12 years ago, runs like a tank. My Grandson loves it when I pick him up at school in my Giant RED '72 Buick Regal, top down and the radio playing. All those little brats with their noses pressed to the windows of the mini vans as we pull away with the sun in our faces and bugs in our teeth...
