    I suspect the reason why you replaced the passenger side is because the drive shaft is in the way and a line wrench is not the solution to removing Bank1 Sensor 1. You will need to cut the old O2 sensor so a socket will fit on it. Unless you want to either disconnect the exhaust from the manifold or disconnect the front part of the drive shaft. Bottom line is the upstream driver's O2 is much more difficult to replace and think twice before taking on that one. All told I had an hour of labor. I have a 2005 Yukon Denali XL.

    • @austincain2173
      @austincain2173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it's a pain and I don't know this particular vehicle. But you could try removing the exhaust hangers. That should give you some clearance. If that don't work then just pull the shaft. Maybe an Offset O2 Sensor Socket on a swivel ratchet would work. I was gonna suggest a passthrough but that only works if you don't have a connector on the new O2 sensor. I always suggest soldering if you don't have a connector.

    I just applied the same technique for the same sensor on the same 5.3L exactly, and I am here to tell you the angle I have going will not permit me to turn it the way he does in this video @2:21 mark. My wrench ends up hard against the torsion bar. For me, there is just no room for that maneuver. I am pulling more toward the passenger door whereas he is pulling more toward the front then I am able to. My fitting must be more around the back of that pipe then the one seen here.

    Is it a fairly universal rule of thumb that bank 1 is the bank with cylinder 1, and bank 2 is the opposite side? How often is bank 1 on the passenger side?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It kind of depends on the firing order of the application. You are correct that the bank one sensor will be on the same side as the number 1 cylinder head. The 5.0 Mustangs did have the number 1 cylinder on the passenger side. Ford set the cars up that way to help give them their signature GROWL...lol Thanks for stopping by 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

      This is for anyone else running into the same problem. I approached from the driver's side. I was able to get my left hand up and threw to the harness connection my right hand through enough to unhook it and reattach it. If your arms and hands are large, you may need to drop the drive shaft. I did this job yesterday and was surprised when I finally found a spot for my left hand to get up to the harness connection. That was the hard part.

      O2 Oxygen Bank 1 Sensor 1 Much harder. I have small hands as I am a woman and trying to wedge them up in that tiny space was difficult. Would love to see a video on that too. Turned out I had to shove my hands up there to reconnect and got really cut up on some of the sharp edges. Also the black clip just wouldn't come out. Finally had to cut it, but getting tools into that spot is very difficult. Definitely suggest safety goggles for Sensor 1 Bank 1. Also found out my truck is Canadian

      If it's at 0.5 hours that's just $40 at a reputable shop. Ask to see the rate chart for the repair next time. I always do, they have one, and if they don't show you don't go there. I use to be a tech at a shop and know how it works. If you don't know it's easy to scam you.

    A friend ordered 4 Walker 02 sensors for my 06 Silverado. 2 of the sensors have the same part number and the other 2 have matching part number. I can only find one number online that identifies one number for the drivers side, before catalytic converter and all other descriptions say they can go before or after catalytic converter. Does it matter where they go as long as the harnesses match? Obviously, I'm not a mechanic, but check engine light lists a couple o2 sensors banks are bad.

      I'm not 100 % sure on this truck but if your upsteam O2 sensors have 4 wires. Two are for the heater and the other two are for the sensor. I think some of the older sensors had one or two wires. Those didn't have a heater built in. Not sure if this helps but the answer is yes sometimes it does matter.

    • @1AAuto

      +James b Thank you for watching. Based on the location of the part, you may need to use a thin flat headed tool to press the tab and use another hand if possible to remove. A lot of the time dirt or other debris gets into the position and causes a tough time removing it. 1aauto.com
