    that one bar with the 4 bends, we call that a 4 point saddle when we run conduit for electrical and we are going over some obstacle, and they are hard to keep straight! but if you make marks on each end of the tubing, it can help you keep it straight when you are bending, just as a tip I learned, and if there is a seam, like there is on EMT, you can also use that to help keep the bends straight. great video, Nate!

    Great job man. I'm surprised that you didn't go with angle iron instead of flat bar for the seat mounts. It's probably fine, but angle should add more rigidity, keep it from flexing (even imperceptibly) in off camber situations and keep those welds healthy. Just 2 cents
    Thanks for the tip about ERP seats as well 👍

  • @allenpiper1935
    @allenpiper1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't use my seat slider to adjust length, but I do use it fairly often to access the open space behind the bottom of the seat. I also have a single cab and storage feels more valuable than gold as my daily.

    One trick for welding the cage in the car/truck that I use since your doing plates is to drill or cut a hole just larger then the cage in the floor. Just set in the plates over the hole, bend and tac it all in, pull the plates drop the cage through the holes weld it up put the plates back and finish.

    Saw you doing layout on the floor, one trick I've used is the 3/4/5 method for squaring things up. Maybe you already know it, if not it's a neat trick you can look up. We use it in Feet for carpentry but it can be reduced down to inches as well.

    • @jacobj1517
      @jacobj1517 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can even go for 6 8 10
      Or 12 16 20 in inches, its easier to get more accuracy like that I've found

    Nate! Perfect answer!
    He is absolutely right🤘...XJ will destroy themselves.
    I have been ordering parts slowly 😔 like 300$ bucks at a time...not cheap! Just on a budget 😁.
    Front, middle and rear frame stiffeners , rock sliders, tie in brackets...and just ordered and waiting for a steering kit from dirtbound. CAN'T WAIT to start welding this month! ...then I will hopefully have the $$$ for a roll cage to tie it all in together😁😁😁
    Oh ya...dirtbound has great stuff!
    But the wait time sucks balls!
    It's take's a month to get anything!
    Rock sliders I ordered on the 12th...its the 5th of may and hasn't even shipped yet😔😔😔

    I know I'm late to the party...
    Had some questions:
    I thought 90° terminations needed gussets? 45° on both sides. That prevents shearing and push. Also provides you with a place to weld triangle sheet with dimple dies (which we all love). An A in the windshield looks cool and keeps the roof from folding the A pillars in a roll over. A V from top center windshield to the center floor bar and back up to rear center halo would keep you nearly crush proof.
    These might be WRC specs, but you are off road...

    Wouldn't be a bad idea on the sleeves to drill 2 holes on either of the outer tubes and add some plug welds. Think you will add any tube along the front of the roof, and/or add the vertical tube in the windshield?

    Do you plan on adding door bars? I think you could pull off some low door bars with a bend that kinda follow the seat lines... would add a lot of extra strength to the cage and make it look more complete/professional for the look you're going for. Either way, sick cage! My comanche will one day be caged

  • @adrianll8289
    @adrianll8289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is tying the roll cage to the hoop a good idea? It would probably stiffen everything up, but you need to cut the holes in the cab... on the other hand, if it was a good idea it would be more common.
    I was thinking about the ways of cheating with the paint. Maybe bend the tubing, cut to fit, take it out, paint it (lave a few inches around the weld area) and then weld it together in the truck, so you end up with only small areas to paint around the welds.

    Looking good... didn't expect anything less, your work and programs are all top shelf. Couple questions... are you going to install any gussets in the corners ? Are you going to come up and out from the frame to the bottom legs of the cage ? Are you going to install one or two bars, in the center of the roof. Tying the front bar and rear bar together ? Rollcages should be as good looking as they are functional.

    I am surprised you bent the tube that meets the cowl so it installs flat. Did you consider angling the two bends you put in it at the ends down slightly? See 6:14. Don't get me wrong, it looks good and you do great work and maybe you were just sick of messing with that tube.
