      Yeah. The hatred was between the fandoms generally, not between the artists. (The title of the video is misleading. In the actual content, they quote Dara as saying that there was NO hatred.) People should watch the 2011 MAMA performances. Several of the SNSD members are cheering for 2NE1 and vibing to their performance at the show. Not much has really changed. It's still difficult for YG artists and SM artists to get close to each other, even though they may be friendly to each other when they see each other at events and things.

    It’s shocking to hear an idol speak about this but what she said, it’s not shocking at all. I’m sure there is a lot of resentment and jealousy among idols, especially when a group gets a lot of comebacks or when a group gets more fame. It happens everywhere, in school or workplace. The idol industry is no different

      @joellecheumaha2084 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      I get what you're saying but I can see why they continue with that strategy. You're only seeing the disadvantages. When they release just a few songs like that fans don't have any other choice than to stream the few songs they've released making the number of streams of those other songs increase, and because of that strategy many fans will literally force their selves to like whatever thing YG gives them. It's easier for new fans to catch up with the songs previously released like if someone wants to Stan BP it won't take them too long to listen to all the songs they've released before compared to Mamamoo's or Twice if uk uk💀 and that's what many newbies out there like so from a business pov that strategy isn't that bad but it'd be better if they change it because it's worked for many years but it won't always work fans are starting to be tired. From an artist pov who's really passionated by music it's probably frustrating but I'd rather work there than being sucked in a slave contract or being overworked once again if uk then uk. I think that Dara's envy towards SM artists has completely vanished after what we've learned recently and the people saying she would've accomplished more if she was in SM prolly swallowed back their words idk her that much but it's true that she fitted more their concept

      They didn't really hate each other. That's misleading. In fact, even in this video, they quote Dara as saying that there was NO HATE. They're describing the awkwardness and difficulty in forming friendships due to the company, fandom and business rivalry...that's quite different from hate. The fandoms really went at it. But the artists generally respected each other. At the 2011 MAMA show, you can see SNSD members cheering for 2NE1 when 2NE1 was performing...and dancing along with 2NE1's songs. When Lee Hi was at YG she had a lot of cute interactions with Shinee (especially Jong Hyun) when their promotions overlapped. She later even included Jong Hyun's song "Breathe" on her Seoulite album (and many fans joked about how "sneaky" Lee Hi and Tablo probably had to be in order to do that without Yang Hyun Suk shutting it down). After leaving YG, one of her first collabs was featuring on Chanyeol's "I'm Yours" song.

    The way this took a dramatic tone than the actual ep😂 Dara & Jaejoong are long time friends and they spilled quite a number of personal insights & experiences as 2nd & 1st gen kpop artists from YG & SM. Go watch the ep! Also, 2NE1 & GG never really had any bad blood against each other. The companies just didn't want them to mingle to keep the competition fierce & more drama to manipulate the fans.

    • @user-df4rh4zz4m
      @user-df4rh4zz4m 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes, I do agree with this. Of of this hatred toward fandom most likely manipulative play from media and company. Let's male example one of the biggest BG cuurently with their massive militant fanbase do everything to make their beloved idol become number 1. Streaming or Billboard chart war never ending. Even the idols themselves keep feeding their fans with delusional facts that make Kpop nowadays more like battleground for them.
      If anyone follow BTS, BP, Taylor Swifts fandom, you will understand what I mean. This delusional is on another level that make them start the day full of hatred and toxicity.

    • @TEAM__POSEID0N
      @TEAM__POSEID0N 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yeah, there was no hatred. (The fandoms generally are another story.) I still remember enjoying watching the 2011 MAMA show and seeing how supportive SNSD members were when 2NE1 performed and got awards. At one point many SNSD members were out of their seats dancing to 2NE1's songs...especially Hyoyeon. Lee Hi also had a lot of cute interactions with Shinee members when their promotions overlapped. She included Jong Hyun's song ("Breathe") on her masterpiece Seoulite album (and people were joking about how she and Tablo had to be sneaky to keep Yang Hyun Suk from cancelling it). She also sang Breathe in a special tribute stage for Jong Hyun. After leaving YG, her first collab was with Chanyeol (another SM artist).
      As for fandoms...people who think that 3rd and 4th gen fandoms are toxic just have faulty and nostalgic memories. The fandoms weren't as big as the biggest ones now. But they could be just as nasty and vicious, if not more so. I didn't hate any group, but I was mostly a fan of 2NE1 back then and the SNSD fans hurled so many vicious attacks against every member of 2NE1. (And to be fair Blackjacks weren't innocent either). Then when Twice started out, their fandom also went after 2NE1 viciously, even though 2NE1 was mostly inactive at the time. One reason why Bom's exaggerated "drug smuggling" controversy could never be put in the past is because the other fandoms used it as a weapon literally anytime 2NE1 did anything...and were constantly lying about it, saying she should be in prison and talking about her like she was both a ruined drug addict and also a drug-smuggling crime boss.

    The video is correct in pointing out that the rivalry between the companies, along with busy schedules, made it difficult for friendships to arise between the artists. OTOH, saying that they "used to hate each other" generally doesn't seem accurate. As mentioned in the video, Dara said that there was no hate. It was just that there was a rivalry and circumstances that made it difficult and awkward to be friendly with each other and meet each other, except in passing at big events.
    At the MAMA 2011 show, during the 2NE1 performance, you can see most of the members of SNSD (especially Hyoyeon) dancing, vibing and cheering for 2NE1 throughout their performance...and that was during the peak years of their rivalry.
    When Lee Hi was at YG, she often met the Shinee members when their promotions overlapped...and the Shinee boys were cheering for her and even danced with her (informally) once when she won for "It's Over". Later, she included a song written by Shinee's Jong Hyun ("Breathe") on her Seoulite album...and performed it also during a memorial stage after Jong Hyun's death. After leaving YG, one of Lee Hi's first collaborations was featuring on Chanyeol's "I'm Yours" song. So there was definitely no hostility or hatred between the two companies' artists...and in many cases there was obviously a lot of mutual respect and admiration.

    2nd gen KPop fan from 2010 here. Primarily a SONE with majority of the KPop songs I know of released by SM Ent.
    The thing I noticed between the SNSD and 2NE1 was that both groups in terms of physical style and music are literally very contrast to each other....WHICH IS WHY IT WORKED GREAT FOR THEM.
    SNSD and 2NE1 were never in any "competition" technically because while they are both "K-Pop", the overall vibe/aesthetic they create musically and show through their clothes/makeup are on opposite sides.
    The fanwars then were just as wild as it is now but SNSD's sparkly & squeaky clean demeanor and 2NE1's edgy non conforming vibe WORKS WELL. One group had a large headcount - nine, one had a smaller number - four.
    THEY'RE ACTUALLY COMPLIMENTARY INSTEAD OF COMPETING. They balance each other.

    I was always angry that 2ne1 didn’t receive better treatment despite being so talented. Their sales and charts outweigh most of the other artists who got more albums and comebacks than them, I never understood why YG didn’t out in better effort for it.Also YG once said 2NE1 is too talented, and I have a feeling it might be linked to that

    • @TEAM__POSEID0N

      A lot of weird stuff seems to have been going on. 2NE1 actually stopped being active as a group at the end of 2014. So almost 2 years before Blackpink even debuted, 2NE1 was basically finished. Bom couldn't even show her face without a certain media reporter exaggerating about her "drug smuggling" incident...and all the haters from rival fandoms would always pile on.
      There seemed to be some friction between CL and YG, with CL (being a very assertive and strong personality) possibly defying YG on some things. Based on some things I've seen, I get the impression that the project with Will I Am was mostly pushed by CL, ended up being mostly for CL, and ended up just wasting time and money, since nothing for the group ever came out of it...and only CL performed on stage with Will I Am at the 2011 MAMA. Some things I saw back then made me think YG was really unhappy about it.
      And of course, for some weird reason, YG never gave Minzy any solo project, even though the other members all got solo projects...and that's probably why she announced she was leaving before any official decision was made or announced by YG. YG also was so focused on the new boy groups and his own reality TV shows (like Mix9) from 2013 through 2018, it's almost a miracle that BP ever succeeded. They were also clearly a very low priority from their debut until sometime in late 2018, when YG was struggling pretty much all across the board. I mean for their debut album, they literally only got two songs...and then had to wait a long time for anything more. Meanwhile, YG was flopping hard in the reality TV shows that he produced...starring him. And the boy groups were having lots of trouble, with key member departures and so on.

    Only when the fandoms will grow up, they will understand how useless those fanwars were. Because No one knows what will happen to those groups in near future. Some will disband, some will be forgotten or lose fans. Some may even leave the industry. Does it even matter which one won more awards or which one had more streams or views?! No. You may not even be a K-pop fan in future. Why do you stress yourself and others (specially the artists) with those fan wars?!

    2nd Gen Netizen here! I started listening to Kpop in the mid to late 2000s. Anyways, I have ALOT to say about this lol. I've always been team YG all the way up until how bogus YG himself did 2NE1 and I'm a 2ne1 stan! Second, YG's aesthetic was so clutch cause their style was so unique which I love! The only female group in SM that had a very similar style closest to 2ne1 was f(x). I'm ngl though I'm very shocked that many of YG's idols wished they started out with SM, so to me that says alot about what's going on behind the scenes especially with management. But one thing I love about the Korean music industry is their structured artist development programs and how they have trainees. The American industry never had like a structured trainee program like Korea does but there's no artist development anymore, they're just basically signing anyone at this point and I hate it cause I really don't care for alot of these new crappy rappers out these days and some singers. That's why I listen to music from the past decades and era.

    It was like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones good boys/bad boys image contrast of the 1960's. Girls Generation were the good girls doing nice songs with impressive dance routines (SM's promotional strategy), while 2NE1 were promoted as rebellious, cool, dangerous, you know, from the street (YG's strategy). Actually both groups were pop acts equally and tightly controlled by their respective companies, and ultimately let down badly by those companies. I'm sure the members of each could have a drink together now.

    No offense to Blinks, but it’s crazy to me that many believe the Blackpink members when they said that their solo comebacks were delayed because they were working hard on them or putting group activities first, be YG is notorious for holding back their artist like this and obviously the girls can’t just outright say something bad about their company. YG was always my least favorite of the “big 3” because they would constantly disregard most of their artist in favor of others, while SM are greedy life-suckers, but open to letting their artist expand their careers (for a cut), and JYP was overly dedicated to a ‘group first’ motto and suck at good promotions, but have a consistent workflow. Plus YG plays favorites so much, and although SM and JYP play favorites too, their favorites were more fan-picked/most profitable vs. just whomever YG decided got their attention that season. I can see why YG artist would like SM over YG or JYP, because SM artist from their same eras have a much broader career, being parts of variety show casts, actors, soloist, being brand ambassador without the rest of the group and more, so when SM artist do leave the company, they have a variety of doors open to them that SM can’t all block, whereas YG has them scrambling to try to make connections on their own.

    I witness those toxic times but that time I was a newbie to kpop and even though I am a fan both gg's I lean towards SNSD and the rivalry is so bitter and rough at the same time because of how competitive the music are as well. However, I would still think that even though it was a literal war between Blackjacks and SONE's I'd say it was still better than fan wars today like back then YT is the only source of music and news for us Int'l fan, and no one is able to create fake news about the idol and you can literally see that something is just a fan hating on one because chart manipulation etc isn't a big deal since it's not even that relevant or prevalent during those times so the artists success is pure dedication and talent. It's just a petty war which if you asked a second-generation fan would just laugh it all now because it was really shallow war. We're getting into someone's nerve because they are a fan of the rival group HAHAHAHAHA.

    As an old time SNSD fan I never saw 2NE1 as a big rival tbh. They debuted a couple years later and by that time SNSD was free to dance to 2NE1 songs and fangirl over them and stuff. Although YG really did like to plan comebacks a week or 2 after SNSD to try beat them. SM would delay the comeback, then YG would delay and it was always a dance back and forth. lol
    The SNSD v Wonder Girls rivalry back in the day was a lot more vicious, especially since all the big boy group fandoms saw SNSD as the enemy and would use WG as a proxy to ‘beat’ or bash SNSD. Like chanting Wonder Girls when SNSD was performing or organizing mass votings and stuff.

    I don’t think Dara would have achieved same success under SM. She’s only still mildly relevant bc of 2NE1, and YG. I don’t think she has enough talent to sustain in the music industry. If she was with SM, could she really have prosper as much as she did in YG? As much as I hate the way YG runs like a one man show, single file line, one at a time! I also think the members prospered financially, along with fame with such little work. We all know a lot of idols worked to the bare bones and still can’t even make a decent living. Not only that, Teddy was able to utilize her mediocre talent and made her shine. That’s the thing with YG; they take the little talent and make something great out of it; who else could have done better?!

Also, I wasn't really aware of the fan wars but if I did, I'd definitely fight for 2ne1. It's also weird to me that Dara was given insane hairstyles back then.
