From an early age ,I remember Paul Harvey coming on the radio at Twelve o'clock ,high noon.If at noon in town, the compress,or other shops would whistle or a siren would go off.It was time for Paul Harvey. My dad would come in from the field and eat lunch, and we listened to the radio.I still think that was the first voice I remember.I listened to him for a long long long time.God bless Paul Harvey.

    Thanks, Brad.
I heard of the man all of my young life, but the people in charge of me loved Liberace. Guess who I was fond of, musically.
I want to thank you for exposing me to Van.
Also, this presentation was one of your best so far. You complimented Mr. Harvey so well by adding to his content things that were under time constraints for him. Bless you for that!
I watched/listened to the Moscow performance and loved it! However, I have never been able to see Khruschev without picturing him banging his shoe on something and screaming "We will BURY you" to us Americans.
Just thanks again for your presentations, Brad.

There's nothing wrong with Liberace. He was very talented. I'm glad you enjoyed listening to this one. I had heard Van Cliburn throughout my life but didn't remember it until my research on Mr. Harvey's broadcast. The video of Khrushchev and the shoe is etched into my mind as well. hahaha. Thank you very much, Bite Me, for the kind words. :)

Oh, for heaven's sake.....beautiful story....a great unwind from a tedious day......I got interested in great classical pieces from my community college days....I took a Broadcasting class, you had to do an hour as DJ 3x's a week....well, no one would do the 8AM classical hour, so I did 5 days a week, on top of twice weekly 'Noon News', and some rock 'n roll shifts....I REFUSED to do country music hour (oddly enough, ended up dating that guy....I digress, there I was in my '70 Camaro, hot summer nights, driving through sweet blossomed orange groves, windows down , with the 8track of Rossini's 'William Tell Overture', Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyrie's', Rimsky-Korsakov 'Flight of the Bumblebee".....If the orange groves, late night drive thru's, cow pastures( them cows still don't know what hit them) could talk.....there's a little bit of me in their story!

Back in the early 90s, when I was still in my teenage years, I made extra money DJing parties. I wanted to be a real radio DJ so badly. I can picture what you explained. Those sound like great memories. Classical music is so powerful. :)

Hi Brad, do you know which program in1986 was about an Ancient Map that was bought at a yard sale? Please let me know if you find it! It made my jaw drop when I heard it!

Know Van Cliburn? Shook his limp hand after hearing him in West Virginia in a reception line he had no interest in.

Probably he would rather be playing. However, as a church pianist for over 50 years, I have always found myself protected my hands. Hence, his limp hand.
