    I spent years putting whatever oil I was using on as my last step thinking I was "sealing" everything in, and well because that's what the internet told me. I've since changed my ways- catering to the oil- and I've noticed a big difference, and less oil wasted on my pillow. I do think you have to see what works for your skin and there isn't really an explicitly wrong way as neither have negative results, but I do think there's an inherently more beneficial order to apply them depending on what type of oil you are using. But again there's lot of wiggle room as it all depends on your products. What's in your moisturizer, what you want to get out of using the oil etc.
    As a general guideline the lighter higher in linoleic acid oils perform at their highest when using before your occlusive moisturizer or mixed, but definitely not after. These oils (rosehip, sunflower, hemp, safflower, primrose, grape seed...) are more unsaturated and actually rebuild the lipid layer and repair the skin barrier while having a lower occlusive nature. If used AFTER, due to the occlusive properties of the moisturizer, the light oil wouldn't penetrate to it's fullest potential, if much at all. As the moisturizer would likely be more occlusive than a more linoleic rich oil. You'd still see benefits but certainly not all it can do.
    The more saturated higher in oleic acid oils (avocado, macadamia, shea, almond) have emollient properties also but mostly do their work via their occlusive nature, making sense why these oils would go on last as a sealant. Jojoba and argan are somewhat balanced in linoleic and oliec acids.
    I'm stopping there because I just wrote an essay on face oils at 4am, send help.

      Thank you so much! You answered my exact question I’ve been searching for days. I’ve been using my sweet almond oil as my last step at night and I didn’t know if I should switch it and use it after toning and before serum or how I’ve been doing it.

      I tried mixing my own oil for skincare in the past but never find the right mix. Until I recently used Kiehl's midnight recovery oil which contains various elixir oils for anti-ageing!!!!!!! My wrinkles are less apparent and my skin feels so re-energized! you can read more about the review here --> sowourplanet.com/kiehls-midnight-recovery-review/ I feel so much more confident and younger now! Would highly recommend this oil

    I love facial oils!! My skin is normal but I actually love the ‘glowy’ oily look. I used to use oils as the last step but now I apply it immediately after my serums before my moisturiser. I feel like it helps retain moisture more and I get more benefits from the oil. ❤️

      Same with your moisturizer. Moisturizers are most effective when skin is still damp, as damp skin best absorbs the moisture and locks it in for a longer time. After washing your face, don’t towel-dry. Instead, apply your moisturizer to damp skin, which can help lock in hydration. Use the same technique when it comes to your body as well. Once you hop out of the shower, resist the urge to wrap yourself in a towel for a minute or two longer and apply body lotion while you’re still damp. Pay particular attention to areas like your knees, elbows, and feet, which tend to get drier and rougher than the skin on the rest of your bod.
      I have dry, sensitive, mature skin and I use the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (water-based) on my whole body from head to toes. I use this method and my skin has never been happier. When I used it on my DRY skin, it felt like it just sat on the surface of my skin with attitude. On WET skin, the dampness of my skin helps the slip in my application and I use a fraction of product and it melts right in!

    I have always had extremely oily skin. By mid day my forehead, nose, and cheeks would be a gross waterfall of grease. I always stayed away from oils and never saw a change. Last month I started adding a facial oil that I bought from target designed to hydrate added over my water gel moisturizer. And it completely changed my skin. I have no excess oil like none. I wish I started years ago.

    Guys can you do a review and tell us the different between aveeno, cerave, cetaphil and first aid beauty?
    Or anyone in here have tried those products? What the different? What is your favorite?

    • @Makeupaddictforlife
      @Makeupaddictforlife 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      A. Cerave and cetaphil are very similar, good for people with eczema or on roaccutane or just with sensitive skin. They are recommended by doctors/derms
      Aveeno is just really moisturising and doesn’t have any additives
      First aid beauty has a range of different products that all do different things

    • @Baxter0426
      @Baxter0426 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Cerave is the best!!! I use it as my cleanser and as my base moisturizer because it’s mild enough and hydrating to combine with my more complicated serums and oils.
      My face broke out with Aveeno, while Cetaphil is a little drying and doesn’t make your skin as moisturized as Cerave. I swear to Cerave products, they can’t be underestimated!

      I swear by the Aveeno moisturizing bar soap for my face. Oat is the first ingredient out of about ten which is awesome. It leaves my skin clean and smooth without drying. I also can’t live without their makeup removing wipes. My sister uses the aveeno spf 30 moisturizer and from trying it out, it’s just OK. I’m not a fan of two in one spf/moist.’s. Aveeno has a few awesome products just with anything, be weary of the ingredients list. Pull your phone out while shopping to search each individual ingredient if you have to. The more effort you put into familiarizing yourself with ingredients, the easier it will be to discern what is right/wrong for your skin. And it does get easier 😊

    your videos are a god send. there are so so so many skin care videos done by random people who have no idea what they're talking about and they do a poor job of explaining everything. you do so much more than just recommend random, sponsored products. you really explain the whole process and why each product is important, why it's good or bad for you. it's so refreshing to finally have found a channel that really helps you understand skincare.

  • @MummyBrown
    @MummyBrown 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have suuuuper sensitive (mature) skin so most of my regimen is treatment oils that I put together myself. It actually saves you hella dough to research your skin needs (acne-prone, redness, dry, etc) and target things that might work for your personal needs and make your own mixtures. Very few of them have extremely short shelf lives and it really pays off in the end to have good ingredients that your know are sourced well. You don't need a long list of oils for a good personal mix. The key to buying good oil well: Purchase the highest quality you can afford and always buy Cold-pressed, pure, unrefined oils with no additives.
    Example of a dope EASY and cost-effective dupe: TARTE's Maracuja Oil is literally only Maracuja Oil and Vitamin E - likely just a dash for added shelf life which isn't really necessary when making your own mix. Maracuja Oil is intended to nourish and soothe mature, dry, parched or irritated skin. It is also highly recommended in scalp and hair care products to encourage healthy hair growth and increased vitality.
    Seriously, keeping the recipe small saves you money in the long run, and it helps keep your mix more stable. Just target your wants/ needs, test them out and see if they play well with your skin, and you'll have a winner for life.
    I like my day oils to be fast-absorbing, moisturizing and protecting. The more the antioxidants, the better the protection as they fight-off free radicals activated by the sun’s UV rays. For night, relax and replenish. My preferred night oils are extremely nourishing with good fatty acid content as they repair the lipid barrier of the skin that might be affected by harsh environmental stressors during the day and restore lost moisture. There are also oils which have potent anti-aging compounds like phytochemicals which repair skin and reverse or prevent signs of aging.
    Also, it seems that many are clueless about what can and cannot be mixed. Don't rock an AHA with a separate Vitamin C serum, use one for daytime (Vit C) and one at night (AHA) otherwise your skin will get super peeved. Beware, but play and have fun with it!

    • @MummyBrown
      @MummyBrown 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, some really loved moisturizers already have great oils mixed in. Read your labels and get to know what might love you back and why.
      Example: Both FIRST AID BEAUTY's Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration and KIEHL's Ultra Facial Cream both include SQUALANE in the mix (yay!) so you know both are awesome for hydration! (* FIRST AID BEAUTY's Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration has Squalane derived from plants, and KIEHL's Ultra Facial Cream has Squalane derived from olives.)
      Now, if you have super finicky skin that irritates the former might be an even better choice for you as it also includes Colloidal Oatmeal (an FDA-designated skin protectant that relieves itching and minor irritation caused by eczema, rashes, and other skin conditions) and Allantoin (Calms and soothes skin).

    Omg! I’ve been using my oils the complete opposite!!! I’ve always applied my oil right after toning. I thought it would penetrate better that way, since I have EXTREMELY dry flaky skin all around my mouth and jaw line. So, I’m supposed to add it with my moisturizer or after, right? I currently add two drops of tea tree oil to my Purity moisturizer because I have a bad case of hormonal cystic acne, and the tea tree oil really helps with taming the acne, BUT I still get flakes a few hours after my skin has sucked up all the moisture. D: Maybe once I start using the oil as my last step (before sunscreen) my flakes will go away. (Fingers crossed). Thank you for this video Rowena and Felicia!! 🙏🏼💜

    Hazelnut oil has been used for oily skin and minimizing the size of pores because of its unique properties. A high content of catechins and tannins (healthy flavonoids) make this oil a “dry” oil that feels smooth and toning on the skin. Its properties help balance oils and make your pores appear smaller.

    I have oily skin and because of the low linoleic acid count due to this condition, a facial oil rich in linoleic acid would balance the hydration level just fine. So I guess I can use grapeseed oil.
    Grapeseed Oil also has tocopherol (vitamin E) and is rich in other antioxidants. 😍 I will make it as the last part of my daily skincare routine.

      I have oily skin as well and noticed that when I use the rosehip at night mixed with my moisturizer I woke up to less oily skin which is good but then I noticed my skin actually started getting flakey and dry. Do you think my skin just needs to adjust? Did you experience any dryness? Should I put the oil on last instead of mixing it into my moisturizer?

    jojoba oil is my literal lifeblood. i used to have really bad acne and when i started using a really good AHA/BHA, it made my skin super dehydrated so it was oily and dry/flaky at the same time. i started using jojoba twice a day, every day, and my skin is so nice now. on top of it being good at controlling oil, you get this really nice natural glow to your skin without your face getting extra greasy throughout the day.

    I do not hope that I am the only one that have experienced it yet and can admit it, but can you maybe make a video about facial hair and what are the best ways to deal with it. For example does laser treatment work and how long does it takes to lead to an effect of less facial hair? What are the alternatives; bleach, hair removal creme and consequences of for example shaving with those small white machines heads that are currently advertised on Facebook and maybe also other social media. Is it best just to poke out the facial hair with a pincet or does that irritate the skin to much like hair removal creme can do? Further what are the possible reasons of visible facial hair on women and can specific changes in diet or medication change the hormones for example testosterone that maybe can lead to grow of visible facial hair.
