    Timmy, even here in VA, 2 - 3 weeks sitting in winter with even a good battery, it would be dead. I know because when my mother-in law goes out of town, we have to start her car so it doesn’t go dead. Keep on Truck-Housing!

    Use silicone lube spray and use it on your door seals to keep the door of your 600$ car door from freezing shut.
    Also Alaskan resident, works great.

    Hey Timmy. Try the Schumacher SC1300 Fully Automatic Direct-Mount Under-the-Hood Battery Charger/Maintainer with Battery Detection - 1.5 Amp, 6V/12V - for Cars, Motorcycles, Lawn Tractors, Power Sports
    Mounts directly underneath the hood, and all you have to do is plug an extension cord into it. Just trickle charge is your battery man. Saves your battery as well. I use it for my ATV at my cabin never have to worry about it not starting, at least due to the battery!

    Check if you can adjust the hood rubber stops little higher by twisting. Should allow normal opening again. Wiping silicone lube on door seals will make it stop freezing shut.

    Hey, Timmy, just take your time and get your chores done well, one by one. Before you know it, you will be done. Besides, your home is so beautiful, it deserves your tender loving care! And enjoy the rest of the winter. I'm here in Miami, and it's so darned hot I could just scream. I just wish it could at least get a little cool. Anything would be better than all this heat. But just the same, I'm making the most of it. Take care, and God bless.😊

      Just out of curiosity, how often do your batteries get frozen up there? I live in Michigan, we have winter, but rarely sub zero for days. I would think after a few days at -30F it would freeze every battery that's not in use. Like you going away for a few weeks, would your battery had a chance with the dome light off?

    • @MyAlaska12
      @MyAlaska12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustyc324 this was my first. Lead acid batteries (if charged) are good for prolonged periods at temps of something like -40. In my case, I left the dome light on and left for 3 weeks. During that time was when north America got hit with that arctic cold.

    • @dustyc324
      @dustyc324 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyAlaska12 That's pretty surprising. obviously the dome light was not your friend in this case. I figured you guys needed battery blankets or trickle chargers for the winter.

    Alaska looks absolutely stunning. Hey, do you put stabilizer in your fuel for the small engines? Regular gasoline will actually go bad and may accumulate water. I've been told by the small engine shop nearby that it starts deteriorating after about 5 weeks. I've had small engines refuse to start when sitting idle for a while simply because of fuel that has gone bad. For chainsaws and such things I use TruFuel (doesn't contain any ethanol), and for other things like generators, I keep a topped off tank with fuel stabilizer in it to prolong the shelf life of the gasoline. Makes a huge difference.
