- In Episode 73 of Truck House Life (PART 4 of the Alpine Creek Lodge Misadventure), I finally lose my cool when things turn for the worse. I don't get mad often, but when I do hehehe. A blown snowmachine engine was soooo yesterday. The adventure to the coolest lodge in Alaska (Alpine Creek Lodge) finally comes to a resolution as well. Enjoy!

Yeah it was a rip off, but a no-option ripoff. Tow truck would have been $500 to $800.

Yup it was my buddies trailer. I bought one spare (he didn't have one) and had a shop grease the bearings before this trip (just to do my buddy a favor). The shop didn't tighten up the hubs and the tire ripped off on one side, then blew out on the other. My personal trailer is good to go, but it only holds 2 snowmachines.
Consider it a real gift to be so creatively resourceful, all at a time when a stroke of luck makes all the difference. Champion on!

We use to take a crazy carpet to tie on track in case of breakdown
Fall a tree. Trim a log to make a ski. Set the rim on the log, Tie off to the trailer frame. A long log doesn't have a whole lot of pressure on it. It will wear for quite a while.

If your going to put 3 sleds on a 2 place trailer put two facing forward up front there will be more weight on the tongue and less on the trailer wheels. I ended up buying a 4 place aluminum trailer and my tire problems were solved. Good video, stay warm for few days before your next adventure.
That was a homemade 3 place trailer (my buddy said), but I'm near convinced that its just a huge 2 place. My personal trailer is good to go, but only holds 2 sleds.

lol, can't prepare for a blown PTO bearing duder;). I did prepare for the trailer (it was my buddies trailer, had a shop in anchorage professionally grease the bearings for me to do him a favor)... they didn't tighten the hubs and the tires blew because of it.
Lol i think I'd b homesick for the truck house after that many days. Nice to see it again. I get that same stupid luck tim and yes it definitely sux

I used to camp near that area before the lodge was built. Used to drink at the Gratias House lodge and
snowmachine with Alan and Susie at the Maclaren river lodge. Those were the days!!

I woke up to two flat tires on the Alcan, fortunately not too far from Haines Junction. My bumper sticker on that old RAV said, "You Go Girl!" ummm not so much. I guess carrying two spares should be a thing. I had a trailer tire eviscerated on the road to Atlin that same trip. Tires.... the round rubber treasures we take for granted.... until they fail.

goodness...for sure, what rotten luck- but it all makes for an riveting story....not to mention the fact that (selfishly) it brings me comfort knowing that crazy rotten stuff happens to other people too. Hope there's a happy ending when this is all over!

The trip from hell😬 I’m going to be a little critical. I don’t understand why anyone would spend thousands of dollars on nice snow mobiles and haul them on a trailer with little donut tires. Get some 14 or 15 “ wheels and tires and carry a come along for the next time you need to load a broken down machine. Negative 25-50🥶 glad I moved south in my old age😎 Enjoy the adventures while you’re young✌️

Hi Timmy, those small wheels and Chinese tires are garbage. I know a low trailer is nice, but you gotta run bigger wheels and tires. I have been there myself. If you blow a spare when you run the bigger wheels you stand a better chance of a tire shop or even a passerby being able to help you. You can even find wheels and tires for spares cheap at the scrap yards. I’m going to a small enclosed trailer, but even the new one’s come with junk tires, so I’ll be getting those changed out right away. All the best.......PS....I was just reading the comments and read that it was your buddy’s trailer ! ....hope you get home.

Hi Timmy, thanks for the reply, we are just south east of you in Alberta. Good to hear yours is in good to go shape. A guy can’t cut costs on his kit up around where you are, to easy to get stranded, especially in winter. I’m in a warm garage working on a BSA motorcycle, looking forward to Part 5!......Take care.
Yea, wow...At least you had your house with you if all went to hell. Frustrating as heck when it all breaks on one trip...been there, done that...I had the snow machine blow up on the Susitna River many miles in..towing a load of building supplies. Was a pain to get back out......There was a time in Alaska where you didn't have to worry about stuff being ripped off if you were in distress.

man I got towed like that on my motorcycle with a rope with my lifted Chevy, it was scary, my friend couldn't hear me if I started to go sideways, he had some issue on my bike and I had to go get him..... can't believe you went 60 miles like that and in subzero weather

Those little tires spin about 4 times as many revs as those pickup tires do at the same speed. Get a trailer with taller tires.
This was my buddies trailer I borrowed (mine only holds 2 sleds, his was a 3place). That trailer just about ruined the entire trip multiple times lol
And your luck is only as good as you prepare it to be.
yup, I prepared by having a shop in anchorage professional grease the trailer bearings (doing my buddy a favor for him letting me borrow his trailer). The shop did not tighten the hubs after greasing the bearings, and the hub came lose and blew the tire out. Then happened on the other side too lol. My buddy didn't have a spare and I bought one just for this trip, wound up blowing 2 frikin tires
Dude that sux alright. I borrowed a trailer last month and replaced the brake master cylinder and plug for the lights.Dam I hate borrowing stuff. I can build you a trailer in New Zealand but you have to come get it
