    The ink the smears after water is applied is just the top layer of pigment that is not bonded to paper. It is sitting on a layer of other pigment. So only the ink that is not bonded to the paper will run at all. So it is actually fully waterproof in that regard.

    Thank you, Mike. So many blue blacks. A favourite range of colours for me.

    I’ve been using this ink in my m805 for about 6 months now, and I’d have to say that it is my favorite ink.

    I love this ink. Basic, common, but one of the best.

    Nice review. I have wanted Sei-boku for a while and when I saw them side by side, the Souboku looks nicer, haha. I like how the pigmented Sailor inks shade!

    wish they had a purple version, most pigment/waterproof inks seem to not shade and be bland! at least online

    It reminds me a bit of Noodlers 54th Massachusetts, a color I love but an ink that I find got funky when in a pen for any length of time.

      @inkdependence  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I get it. 54th is an ink that I wanted to love, but I sorta stopped using because it was a little temperamental.

    Mike, how does it compare with Diamine registrar blue black, if you have used it?

    I bought all three last week. For two of my standard Sailor Pro Gear pens and a Realo. Fantastic inks, no question.
    Mike, I find your talk about not being afraid of these inks very reassuring. Still, I wonder if it would be just fine to put this Souboku in one of my Aurora 88s. Please say something about it. 🙂

      I've had KiwaGuro in a Bexley piston demonstrator without staining for a long time, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. That said: any ink can possibly stain demos and ink windows.

    Hi Mike, thank you for the review. Have you tried Akkerman Stormachtig Blauw (Stormy Blue) from the Dutch Masters collection? Wonder what you think of that, compared to the others.

    • @inkdependence
      @inkdependence  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think I have that one, no. I have a good range of the Akkerman inks, but I only have a few of the DMs.

    In case you didn't know, I looked up the two characters for the name of the ink, Souboku, and it literally means blue-black. So no surprises.

    is this waterproof? I will use it for urbansketching with watercolors

    • @phillipgraham1422
      @phillipgraham1422 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no.
      For someone like me who only writes, it is basically as waterproof as I could ever want. For you, since you are using watercolors, I would say it is not water proof enough because unless you are going to let it dry for a while before you apply water, you will get ones amount of spread.
      Post Script- I have also notice that it tends to be less prone to spreading on cheaper or more absorbent papers. I don’t know what this would mean for paper specifically meant for watercolors.

    Help me make a decision - Souboku or R&K Salix?

    • @inkdependence
      @inkdependence  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a tough one. I really like both. Salix is iron gal, so you’ll only want to use it in your gold nibs. Souboku is safe for any pen. Maybe that’ll help?
      Salix was the only ink I used in this one VP for a long time because it was the only ink that really worked in that pen, but it can feel a bit dry in others.

      Fear not! They're easy to use and won't hurt your pens.
