  • Let’s see how Sailor KIWAGURO Pigmented Black holds up under abrasion with watercolors on Strathmore Mixed Media 100% Cotton Vellum Paper.
Sailor KIWAGURO Black Ink is a pigmented ink like Platinum Carbon Black. I have have never used it before but have had multiple recommendations to try it. I’ve been using Platinum Carbon Black for over 10 years. I’ve been tempted away before but I always go back. However, if this ink does clean up easier, then I may have a new black ink!
Smooth, matte, water resistant and smudge resistant would put this at the top of the list and so far: it’s going there.
This is my first Sailor ink and now I may need more!

Bittersweet, perhaps, this is not one of those million-subscriber channels. It's a treasure that uplifts humanity. Thank you.

Easily the best “ink review” I’ve ever seen. Amazing art with an equally amazing story. I used to live in Tehachapi so the story really resonated with me.

I had a cousin who lived in Mojave for a year and we’d go up to the loop to watch the trains.

I came to learn of a black ink new to me and left with detailed memories of the Owens River Valley, a hard worn old timer, his trustee ol' pup and his humble home. I won the internet today. Thank you.

It just feels good when drawing meets storytelling.

I’ve seen people open ink boxes with letter openers and knives before, but never a palette knife. That is a good idea.

So cool to see you get this outstanding ink for yourself. I’m not sure but I think I may have mentioned and recommended Kiwa-Guro to you in my comment on your recent nice video on your permanent black inks.
Aurora Black is my top non-waterproof black ink. And Sailor’s Kiwa-Guro is my absolute favorite permanent black ink. Solid, true, smooth flowing black with a velvety appearance on the page. And excellently permanent, too. Easy to clean out of pens which is a real bonus for anybody nervous about the ink being pigmented.
I’ve had smudging issues with Platinum’s Carbon Black. Besides, Kiwa-Guro looks a truer black to my eyes. I prefer it much more. I think the price of the Kiwa-Guro ink bottle is high, but very fair and worth it. 50ml for an ink this good for $24 is just fine with me.
If you wish you may want to try Sailor’s Souboku and Seiboku, as well.
What an interesting, intriguing and moving story you tell here while drawing. It’s one of the reasons why I’m a fan of your channel. Carry on! I’ll always watch and hear what you do and say here. 🙂

Your last line brought happysad tears to my eyes! You're not only an amayyyzing artist, you're such a good storyteller too!
I got the kiwaguro, too.. however for me the pigment loosens up too much with water. It's awesome to see yours works almost like the carbon black. Great video! ❤

Came here to see an ink review and found miself captivated by the drawing and the story behind it. You should definitly consider recording your voice for some producers of audiobooks - you would win the auditions!

after saying how much you liked the fact the bottle faced the front of the package I think you put the Sailor Kiwaguro bottle in back to front 🙂

I'm curious if you've tried DeAtramentis Document Black ink, and if so, how it compares to the Sailor Kiwaguro Black.

    • @tadashibyers9377
      @tadashibyers9377  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, I use DeAtramentis Document Black. It is a favorite for my EDC pen. Once dry, it doesn’t smudge as easily as either Kiwaguro or Platinum Carbon Black. It runs smoothly but I have had more cleanup issues with DeAtramentis if I leave it on a pen too long. It’s harder to get out than the other two. I need pen flush (not a big deal) and that’s what keeps it out of pens I leave sitting around, sometimes too long.

Another noteworthy difference is that while Kiwaguro tends to put down a thinner line from a given nib than most inks, DA Document inks have the opposite quality, creating thicker lines and sometimes even spreading the line after it’s written on the page (DA Document Turquoise is especially egregious in this regard but the standard black will do this on some papers as well)

Great video! What is your opinion about the ink now that you have used it for some time? Still liking it? Was it easy to clean? Thanks!

I’m sorry for a months delay on your questions. Yes, still like this ink especially in my Pilot Falcon pens. No cleaning issues but it does lift with watercolor on the Bristol paper. The ink lifts less on vellum but more than Carbon Black on either surface but it has less sheen than the Carbon Black.
