      I think the spin dash in a modern sonic game is something we need to see more of I know we had it in sonic adventure but definitely need more

      This is my dream comming true, I always wanted a mix of the modern sonic mechanics with the classic one and its the perfect fomula imo. My last hope is they add the bounce attack from sonic adventure.

      that's because you didn't see him completely flying using the spindash in the pyramid thing in Ouranos, there's an example of that in Sonic Overtime's video

      Unfortunately, its not genuine physics like in sa1, theres just a timer where they turn off the gravity for a few seconds

      If you hold jump when spindashing off an edge in Adventure 1 and 2, gravity is reduced as well

      That's one of the reasons why Rush was my favorite Sonic game until Frontiers released, and now even Frontiers has both. =)

      i 100%ed rush and i almost forgot it had spindash, its only a little bit useful in boss fights and nothing else.

    Frontiers has practically become a giant testing ground for gameplay mechanics at this point. I’m excited to see how Sonic Team builds upon these ideas in future games.

    Not only the spindash have godlike momentum. But also makes the 2d sections soo much easier and faster!

    Tip for some of yall, you can charge a spindash DURING a stomp for even faster movement, especially in 2D cyberspace

      Also know, that on the initial speed burst of the spindash, it maxes out sonic speedometer to the complete limit, but slows down to power boost speed after that, unless there are any hills, in which It would accelerate due to that juicy momentum. So when on flat ground, spam the left trigger to go max speed everywhere.

    It's strange for Sega for not letting people know on how to unlock the spin dash move, but it's a nice that they added it on this game.

    there is one major Con with the new spin dash move
    For those who don't know (or haven't unlocked it yet)
    if you hold LT while falling down, it will turn into a more powerful drop dash.
    BUT
    it WILL stop your forward momentum if you trying to land a drop dash from a jump.
    There were times I missed the ledge because of the spinning drop dash.
    Edit: Extra con, IT SCREWS UP WITH UNEVEN SURFACES!!!
    you'd think it's great to speed through the S curve highway on 4-2
    BUT NOOO!!!
    you keep getting lifted out of nowhere like you're about to take off!!!
    You will notice it on the drawbridges on Green Hill Classic!!!
    boy, my "spin dash edition" runs are gonna be too fun!

      Don't use it on turns or up hills. Actually you would never use spindash up hills in the adventure games either unless you were tryna launch yourself halfway across the map

    I hope for the next game they drop the boost entirely and just keep this new spin dash, as well as design the terrain to better accommodate for such changes. Also I hope they refine the drop dash to feel less like a separate move and more of an extension of the spin dash, like in Mania.

      Then they need to make homing dash and slingshot possible with spindash cause otherwise i still want the boost. Also makes sonics regular running speed a bit faster. I think the two can and are coexisting. Also give spindash airdash.

      @@dave9515 I think to solve that issue they honestly just need to make Sonic’s base running speed a healthy medium between boosting and non-boosting, as well as make the gaining of speed more dependent on terrain and not just the press of a button yknow. Same with rail grinding, etc. The addition of the spin dash and the momentum adjustments have them SO close to fulfilling that but that’s just my piece. But yeah they should definitely keep all the air dashing aspects of the boost they’re crucial at this point

      @@setherfluous I agree with this so hard. We are seeing an evolution of sonic's movement and open zones being an evolution of hubworlds. Sonic frontiers 2 gonna be so peak if this is the foundation. Also excited for update 3 of frontiers. I have wanted to play as amy in a 3d environment for over a decade now. So glad amy tails and knuckles are getting love again. I would even say this year feels like the year of amy and i am all here for it honestly.

      boost and spin dash can coexist with their pros and cons, boost mantains a constant speed even running upwards, plus giving you more control, spin dash is more sensitive to slopes and unglues sonic from the terrain, but it can easily be faster than boosting if you find the right areas, to make their differences even bigger in the next game, boost control could be like in the open world areas, while spin dash control would be like turning in the cyberspace areas, harder to control but allows you to achieve bigger amounts of speed and even skip big areas of the world with precise jumps

    Soooo does this effectively replace the boost now? (I havent beaten all the new challenges yet)
    I mean it seems better in every way :
    A) looks like it actually has momentum and roll physics off slopes and inclines which leads to more fuild movement and fun air-time compared to the boost in this game which is a glorified run fast button on top of randomly flinging you in the air thanks to wonky collision
    B) Much faster in Cyperspace where the boost is ridiculously nerfed making those 2D sections painful to go-through and
    C) Damages enemies unlike the boost

      No cause boost still got slingshot, faster rail grinding and of course homing dash plus being stickier can actually help with some platforming stuff so thats a plus actually now. Spindash and boost are coexisting complimenting each other too.

      For me the boost is a bit slower so I find it easier to control and do general platform challenges with it while the spindash is insanely fast and useful for getting to places quickly or skipping things.

    I don't know if you guys know this, but when you "Spindash" off a hill, any incline, or a flat and smooth surface, and not doing a "Spinjump", you can actually jump two times in the air. You essentially have two extra double jumps. As long as you don't jump after you "Spindash", you will have two extra double jumps. It's amazing. Kishimoto and his team did an amazing work. Full respects to them.

      not just the spindash, they let you change the deceleration rate of your jumps and how quickly you come to a stop in mid air, so when you jump during a boost or spindash you can keep all of your built up speed, which means you can launch yourself around the island

    I love the spin Dash but I still find myself using the boost more if Sonic Frontiers wasn't a boost this would be game changing but I'm happy that Sonic Frontiers gets the attention it needs

      Welp, I'd you wind up the spindash mid air it stops all of your forward momentum but it is stronger than the drop dasv, the drop dash doesn't stops your momentum, so you'll have to figure out when to use both

    Having unlocked the Spin Dash, I think we can all agree that in the right conditions (i.e. when there are no enemies) it makes a much better drop dash than the ACTUAL drop dash.

    I don't have the game so i'm not familiar, but does spin dashing automatically consume the boost meter?? Or can it simply be further enhanced by the boost.

      Spin dashing uses up the boost meter automatically

      It uses boost, and at a higher rate than boosting normally, with the trade off being its slope influence and top speed that makes the needle go off the speedometer.
      It has a strange quirk where on flat ground it slows down faster than it does going uphill if air deceleration is turned way down, because going uphill technically counts as going airborne if you come at it fast enough, though this just means in some cyberspace levels to move at top speed you spam spindash while holding boost kinda like SA1 Spindash

      @@SoniaSpectrum I did new game plus and yes spindash carries over in fact teh new game plus icon is pretty cool too as a gif. Skill tree and all unlockable moves and stats carry over. Only items don't which unfortunately means no hearing aqua road at the beginning of the game.

      Good question. I imagine they would, but CAN we use Spindash for new game plus?
      There’s no way they expect you to do all the challenges, only to get the spin dash at the end of game..
      It’s most likely a one&done unlock..
      On Chaos Islans myself, so we’ll see..

      You can keep and use all of your abilities including the spindash on new game + otherwise you will start fresh

    It's a shame that, by the time I unlocked this, there was nothing left for me to do in the game. It's like if the next Mario game let me unlock Wario after getting 100% completion, but didn't include any rewards or further incentive to use him.

      If you start new game plus with your save file it carries over along with your unlocked moves and stats but if you start a new save file you'd have to unlock it all over again.

      You have a permanent power boost whenever your speed stat is upgraded to the max.

    What would be better is removing boost, drop dash, and the spin attack whoosh noise and use SA1s Spin attack sound effect, even animation style from SA1 for the spin attack and spin dash

    I don't like "this" spin dash. At least we got it but it's too overpowered. There's no balance, you can spam it every time that it looks like a cheat code. It's not even close to classic and Adventure spin dash.

      @@mobas07 what I mean is, contrary to Classic gameplay for example in which you use it to get some speed when stopped, in order to have a constant speed while running, here there's no stop and decreasing speed. It's even faster than boost which is troublesome because I didn't imagined to be faster. Boost and spin dash could be together but it's not what I imagined it

      It’s more accurate in this game now with the option to remove jump deceleration, what happens now when you jump from a boost or spindash is conversation of momentum

      @@flameosaurus1832 if you're talking about automation, every game has some type of automation. Whether it's for set pieces or to help the guide the player. Forces levels can be completed with very little input from the player
