    Honestly the sliders were the best way they could have done it.
    If you want the default settings leave at defaut.
    If you want to go nuts go nuts.

      I agree in a way, though I think most people won’t take the effort to adjust it so I would appreciate them soft capping it. You’re right though, I’m glad it’s more dynamic and that people can have custom builds of sonic basically.

      @@DawnSRC Mayde adding a series of "recommended settings" would be a good way to help more people find the gameplay style they like the most.

      I'm also happy that its a slighter and not an on off toggle as I prefer Sonic to have some weight so I can only go down to like 25% and have a for my self far nicer control.

      Yeah because 0 deceleration is way too fast for regular play. I think the definitive thing would also be to switch between power boost and regular boost with some kind of button press. Because there's many open zone challenges that feel too fast with the power boost on like some ring challenges, and on extreme you are permanently in power boost.

    1:50-Do people just forget that Lost World brought back the spindash in a 3D game? To be fair the way levels were designed it barley felt like an actual one, but it was there

      Spin dash in LW was elite, I loved using it there. Also, technically, spin dash was in all of the games he said didn't have it.

    this is the fun kind of broken.
    the spindash is utterly insane. and i love it.
    it feels more like a sonic game when you make the physics bend to your will.

      This kind of lossless/player freedom is necessary, it’s what people liked about the Adventure games and what we see in a lot of the fan games and it also has it’s roots in the Genesis games. Seeing as the spindash seems directly modeled after SA1 I think the director has committed to bringing this style of game design back where players can intuitively pull off crazy stuff, it was already partly in the game at launch but now it’s completely had its potential unlocked

      @@islandboy9381 Why critique in the video what we all wanted. We want to get off the rails, do crazy stuff and go fast and have the zero velocity for all the crazy stuff.
      This is the SONIC we love. This is a risky move that paid off. NOW I WANT TO PLAY this game. I want bigger areas where I can skip, jump and risk a lot with these moves. Sonic is a racing game that we decide our course. This should be the NORM.

      Yeah a problem I’ve had since adventure Era is how Sonic’s weight feels. I think that’s actually a really good way to put it.

      Yes I really don't get how the really old Genesis games got even this right where Sonic actually drops faster the longer he falls, my only guess is they don't want players complaining about Sonic having not enough control in the air in 3D to land on platforms.

      This in particular is why Unleashed Sonic feels so good to control once you’ve mastered the button layout and systems. Every game since LW takes more from that game where Sonic has free lateral movement and low minimum takeoff, and it’s partially why the boost in Forces just felt like a retuned LW spindash

      I think that’s how sonic canonically works aside from Archie sonic
      (Archie sonic basically can fly in base form)
      But I like the fact that sonic is slowly becoming like his Archie character (op)

      I think it's intentional. Like Sonic is the fastest thing alive. If he went all out, he'd hurt a lot of things around him. So, him being light to me always felt like them showing that while he keeps getting stronger and faster, even while holding back, he still able to go at a speed that gravity can't stop him. Simply by using his acceleration technique, the boost and momentum to make up for how much he's holding back. Kinda gives perspective as to how it feels to be Sonic himself.
      It's not for everyone, but I always thought it was neat. Cause even in adventure, he was pretty crazy to move.

      I love that they added so much customization and yeah I really hope they keep going with it because you can truly custom make your movement tailored for you. Next game can be so good if they put the time in.

      Yes that i was looking for. The only way you'd be able to go fast is to constantly hit or hold the boost button. Maybe they did it this so you could have decent control over Sonic but having that option to increase base speed would be nice too.

    I kinda like what Sonic Team did with the sliders, they heard all of the Soinc this, Sonic that, momentum, and they just said: Screw this, here, modify it as you want.
    I also like what they did with the Spindash, I would like it to be on Sonic's move as a base move in a balanced way, it is way too broken, but having it as an unlockeable powerful move for the endgame or New Game+ is not a bad idea.

      That's something I always admired about Sonic Team, to acknowledge that some fans are right about some things. The fact that they also don't chase down Sonic-Fan games is great, but I wish they got more of those people in to make new Sonic Games.

    This game truly revitalized the love for Sonic in the eyes of the public it seems. Finally a hit by them! Getting super hyped now that the biggest update is coming! Also, lmao the decel slider was really a "you can't handle the truth" play on their part and I loved that they made it possible to fully customize these gameplay elements because it's so bad to be stuck with a game that you like but the movement feels a bit weird every time you play, but now anyone can change that until they feel the controls to be just the way they like it, sick af.

    The sliders are fantastic. Being able to choose if you wanna go nyoooming around the map is one of the best updates we could have gotten. Excited to see how the Any% run changes now and how low it'll go.

    The only thing that bothers me about going fast is that when there are structures designed for closed platforms, Sonic has no brakes and unless you adjust it the only way to slow down is the sudden change of movement or the stomp (with the possibility of sliding by mistake)

    Here's the thing about the idea of "too far" and "not made for it":
    The dev team, 100%, knows it.
    They they were patching big skips and other important stuff, and they definitely limited how far down deceleration can go.
    Them choosing not to, choosing to let the player break the physics engine if they wanted, seems like a deliberate choice.
    And frankly, more power to them--they're giving players options, and I am HERE for it.

    1:53 In 2017, Classic Sonic had the spin dash and if you wanna go even further, the Spike wisp power up in Colors Ultimate has the spin dash.

    You say generations was the last game that had the spindash with classic sonic, but lost world had the spin dash too; although being pretty different, and forces had classic sonic in it as well so it also has the spin dash.

    this update is so good:: I, and some other runners were just completely burnt out on sonic frontiers but low deceleration + spindash is such a game changer. and I whille I think it's a little *too* broken at times, I think this update was for the better.
    genuinely super hyped for update 3! I cant wait to see all the stuff they add to the game. and great video as always :D

    I like these settings better. Sonic is supposed to be fast and making him go fast should ALWAYS be a plus. and it's optional too, so if you can't control it or want a slower experience you can and the game never forces a certain speed to players which is honestly one of the best things a game can do.

    Fun fact the spin dash can scale invincible walls. INVINCIBLE WALLS! ( I was missing around in 2-2 trying to find an incline that would lunch high up accidentally I spin dash into the invincible wall and I scaled it and died I took footage of it in the switch but couldn’t go through the wall in the footage)

      i mean gens was literally made with the series history in mind. also they've explained in interviews how frontiers was changed for casuals, with weird stuff like the infinite parry and puzzles. in terms of the dlc though, yeah it's def a gift for us fans

    3:06 the reason why it happens is because the spin dash is programmed to literally disable gravity for 0.35 seconds when it goes airborne and the ground angle tolerance for it to consider the player as grounded is just 15 degrees so going airborne with it is very easy, couple that with the low fall speed which is even lower in cyberspace and the floaty gravity in Frontiers and we get the all of those crazy skips that people are doing

    the spindash is so broken fr! you can get absolutely flung off of small ramps and you can save speed by boosting out of a spindash mid-air! you basically get a buffed airdash.
    i managed to make it to the small islands past rhea with the spindash off of the first windmill. i noticed some dash rings and a ramp that launch you back onto rhea. the island was missing a couple of textures and you could see through chunks of it. i had alot of fun with the spindash!

    I disagree. I LOVE a game with a good sense of speed and/or movement system. Seeing this footage of what's possible only makes me want the game more so I can experiment around with how far the game will let me go and how much freedom it gives with a bit of creativity (also something I love)

    I hope the next update smooths out the decorative terrain that constantly snags you and breaks your speed. Like those little stone triangles on the ground. They don't need collision for every crevasse please. Just make a general flat plane over them.

    You want the crazy fast gameplay of no deceleration? Set the slider to 0.
    You want the simple slower more controlled gameplay of deceleration? Keep it max.
    You want somewhere in between? Set in somewhere in between.

    Yes it is. The way momentum works with it kinda snaps the entire game in twain depending on your game settings and lets you skip 70% of most Cyberspace levels by finding a decent speed bump and let me bluntly cheat 3 of the 5 Final Horizon towers by exploding upwards off a wall as if I was playing Sonic Adventure 2 and just kinda rolling 500 miles through the air to land on the summits.

    These updates is what keeps Sonic Frontiers from dying, I am so happy.

    I played with a physics revamp that removed air deceleration since my first playthrough, and having the option to do so without mods is so crazy to me. It feels amazing to play, I love it!! The only thing I would change now imo would be Sonic's terminal velocity, he does fall quite slow lol

    The game is gonna be completely different once update 3 comes out with the supposed revamped ending. Speedrunning the game might be different now but its gonna be crazy different once the final update drops.

    prehaps there planning to get rid of the boost mechanic and just use spin dash like the adventure games did

      I’m not sure if I can see them getting rid of boost but I can see both being present from here on after Frontiers!

      Boost is completely obsolote now, or only keep the air dash

    "spindash hasn't been in a mainline sonic game for quite some time" *shows all games that have a spindash in them* (generations and forces have classic sonic and lost world just straight up has a spindash)

    Tbf the wyvern escape skip being patched doesn't effect anything as long as the play NG+ as they can just momentum spindash off a rock at a correct angle or surface in order to reach the rocky terrain around the wyvern arena, which there are no invisible walls. So, in theory, they could then just drop in and spawn the boss, making the second island a joke in NG+.
    Theoretically, they could also slingshot to the area on a fresh normal save and do the same process. I assume that maybe they had been planning to patch the escape for a while as i realized in the Christmas update there is literally no invisible walls surrounding the wyvern arena area and it remained that way ever since.
    So runners will just have to route the escape out of runs in favor of jumping right to the boss, similar to Kronos. Assuming they aren't going for 100% run, that is.

    Well, it may be a buggy mess, but it's a FUN buggy mess, so we let it slide. And roll. And gain speed off of its jumps, without decelerating it.

    1:50 all of those games had the spindash. Lost World even allowed you to do it in 3D sections.

    You seem pretty knowledgeable on the games ins and outs. Can you concur that Update 1 changed some of the island's geometry? I've recently seen two people on a forum claim there's been subtle geometry changes on islands. In general im trying to gather as much positive stealth changes as possible throughout the updates, especially since there REALLY ARE some great stealth changes being done that makes me tight is being overlooked and getting basically no attention/recognition.

      You know I haven’t heard much about this but I would love to know more/help out in the search! I’ve noticed small stuff like camera trigger changes and stuff but nothing about collision. For example Tower 1 on Rhea the camera trigger is totally different where we used to HSP in the Speedrun.

    These are all good changes
    Also there is a skip in aries that allows you to battle wyvern without completing the knuckles quests. You just need to be in the arena and have a star fall lato event happen.

    These changes almost feels a bit Like Sonic Team is going beware of what you wish for. The original game was a controlled balanced experience that the community wasn't entirely happy with so Sonic team decided to give options that would address the complaints but took them to the extreme. Want momentum? What if we gave you all the momentum.
