5:30 Fun Fact: for anyone who has played SONIC 2006, there are 465 loading screens ( not counting game overs or fails) from start to finish which comes out to 1 hour, 58 minutes and 34 seconds of nothing happening.
I still remember the FTCR Playthrough ending with an entire hour of sll the loading screens edited out of the LP. Edit: it's also one ninth of the whole game.
Yeah, I remember that "Everything wrong with" vid that also mentioned that... Pretty insane considering how much of our lives get wasted on load screens, and then the original 06 pulled that somehow....
The notion of one man taking a game that nearly killed the entire Sonic franchise and him turning into what it could have been is very fascinating to me. Well done, Chaos X.
Facts, the fact that this dude took what was one of Sonic’s most infamous and worst game of all time, into what could have been a real contender for one of Sonic’s Greatest Games ever is just incredible. And once the story / cutscenes / voice acting, is fixed and fully realized, along with being able to play the boss battles and The full Game from start to end is really outstanding and crazy how really fun and great sonic 06 could have been
@fredtheted3530ngl I'd put Sonic 4 and Forces up there as well, those games are just as bad as 06 if not worse, Sonic 4 was a shitty mobile game turned cashgrab to bank off nostalgia and Forces has little to no redeeming qualities tbh, only 1 good stage from that entire game
@@neomachine855OK, now you need to study. Forces is a mediocre game but it is well made. Learn the difference between bad made games and mediocre games
Sonic P-06 really feels Worthy of the title, “Sonic Adventure 3.” Congrats to the ChaosX and everyone else who worked hard to create this great Fan game
I will fully accept P-06 as the TRUE Sonic Adventure 3 Only IF ChaosX or someone else adds a fully functional SA1/2-style Chao Garden with Silver, Iblis, Mephiles, etc. Chao. I know it won't happen, but a man can dream.
@@mrmelonman2893 It really did not. It had good bits and pieces, aswell as some good character development, but it is neither a cohesive picture nor does it hold up under any actual plot-scrutiny. And this is not SA2-level jank where a few tiny rewrites could fix it without much effort. Yeah, this reminds me of a certain other game.
I was 11 years old when I was gifted an Xbox 360 and sonic 06 for Christmas. I honestly never touched the game until a year later when my dad committed suicide. In one of the worst times of my life, Sonic 06 helped me through it. It was my escape from reality. Silver was actually my favorite to play and I would just run through the multi-player levels again and again. It still was a bad game but in a good way like a cheesy B movie. To this day I still hold 06 close to my heart and I'm glad that there is a dedicated fan base to create things like this to help it live to its full potential.
I’m sorry to hear about your Dad, man. And yeah, nostalgia really can cloud your vision but it’s really all about if the game gave you a good time or not. I, for one liked a lot of gen 6-7 titles that are critically flawed, yet I don’t let that ruin the fact that those games mean a lot for me. God Bless your soul man, and I know your father will be proud of you…
Im really Sorry about your loss..I'm happy that such an iconic series such as sonic has assisted you in those hard times. Sonic was also one of my childhood especially with the mario crossovers.
the thing about 06 is that it tried. it wanted to be great but never had a chance. it wasn't a cashgrab but an honest disaster. and people can always tell when that's the case. that's why they care about it and want to see what it could have been so badly.
Sonic 06 tried to be something more mature and deep, and I would wish SEGA had given it another chance instead of admitting defeat and regurgitating Green Hill Zone for a decade later.
Tell that to 2016's Batman V Superman... I agree with the sentiment, but a good heart doesn't save a brittle skeleton, atrophied muscles, and failing kidneys. ...however P06 does make a very good argument.
When you look at early documentation of Sonic 06's development, you realise the business aspect of game developing is what really destroyed the vision of this game. (As is too often the case nowadays) They had so many things proposed (like dynamic night and day cycles having an effect on the game world) but cut back on to get it out by a certain date, reallocation or resources, etc. If they were given the opportunity the game and devs deserved/needed, this would have been our Sonic Adventure 3 taken to heights we couldn't have even imagined back then.
Just seeing what I have now...I will say only this: A thousand blessings on the bloodlines of ChaosX and his team, for a thousand generations. They deserve all the love. All of it.
As a contributor to the project, it makes me so happy seeing the joy P-06 has brought to fans such as yourself, J. Your closing statement on how important the project is for the franchise as a whole really resonated with me and, however small my role, I'm proud to be a part of '06's ongoing rehabilitation because of it. The annoying comments on how Chaos' work is all a "waste" or "polishing a turd" will probably never go away, but as long as people who took the time to actually play the game and offer us constructive feedback to continually improve the experience are having fun, that's all that matters. I do hope you'll continue to enjoy the project going forward!
I love that P-06 is really changing the conversation in the community just like what J said in the last part of the video. P-06 gives us this genuine hope that I have never really felt imaging really. P-06 esp the silver release has made me want to SPEEDRUN the game, which is something that I have never felt saying to myself in my entire DAMN life. This is... THE game, where I don't have to be worried about the game's quality or polish and to play it because it's overall fun until the dinner feast arrives When you mention about the "annoying comments" surrounding Chaos' work, I feel like they're either scared of it's success or that they're not able to look pass what was wrong in the past and then trying to think about what could've been improve which is what the game solves todo, which distances them from the sincere hope that the game has and what everyone has been feeling. I do know however, that no matter what kind of successful game you make, there will always be people who will like what you do, and there will always be people who will dislike what you do. You cannot please everyone All I'm saying is, Sonic Project '06 is like my magnum opus of all time, it is PEAK not just as a Sonic game but in the work of fangames, just taking one of the most disastrous games and improving it up until it is near perfection, that right there... is soo inspiring to people like me.
Even though you may have a small role in making the project, I still thank you for even working on it in the first place. The Silver release was so cool! I'm very glad you gave Silver some justice, and gave him more potential, and made the gameplay much more fun. Along with Blaze and Amy too. I appreciate the hard work you guys do for us. And as someone who was actually born in 06 and grew up a little with the game, I'm very happy I can now watch a game do what it was made to do. Thanks so much! :)
A lot of burden is coming up on you. I wonder if you're going to work on the story cutscenes while ChaosX takes his rest, giving you time to catch up to his work, or if you'll wait for him to model the hubworlds. I also wonder If you'll do the CG Cutscenes as well.

And once the story / cutscenes / voice acting, is fixed and fully realized, along with being able to play the boss battles and The full Game from start to end is really outstanding and crazy how really fun and great sonic 06 could have been
I think the most impressive thing here is how basically one guy took one game and fixed it all by himself, like big projects like this usually don't see it to the end, because of dwindling motivation, lost interest, hate and all that being too much for one person to handle, but ChaosX has been working on this for years now without stopping, a fan and passion project with no monetary gain, that's mad impressive and he has all my respect for it
It is insane that one man could do so much, and have the determination and optimism to go for so long. Respect to ChaosX for having really strong willpower and skill to do all this solo.
The people criticizing ChaosX for even attempting this should be ashamed of themselves, really. That kind of the attitude is the reason why we so often just can't have nice things, and it can really weigh down passionate creators.
@@gigatesla yea you definitely have a point, may not be a game developer but i kinda know the process in a simple way, core gameplay first(well most of the time atleast),everything else later, bugfixes usually coming last, unless there is a gamebreaking bug discovered during playtesting,in which case they have to fix it. and to be fair, some game source codes are a mess, hacky and all that, because of the fact that they needed to be done in a limited amount of time, some games which have had sors code leaks have had hilarious comments from the devs, and some are literally just ranting how bad the game code is but hey, atleast they got it done in time.
That part was absolutely baffling! Its one thing to have no faith that '06 could be any good at all, but they were actively discouraging ChaosX from even trying, to the point that it felt like they were personally offended that someone else was taking their time to make a game these people don't care about. All I could think about when I saw those angry comments was, "So?", because it literally doesn't affect them in any way whatsoever, regardless of whether or not the game ends up good. The only thing it does is, if its good, potentially benefit them if they go out of their way to play it, and if its bad then nothing changes. So why the hostility?! They act like they are scared that the game might be good and are trying to nip it at the bud before it comes out, like they have some sort of personal stake in the game staying bad.
@@Damian-cilr2 I love the TF2 comment about the unremovable jpeg. Also! Animated movies go through a similar process. Pixar even has a name for it, something like "Ugly baby." There's cool videos on TH-cam about their process.
The moment I saw Silver's Tropical Jungle stage.....how colorful and vibrant it looked, I was just petrified. My jaw dropped of how beautiful it looked...just insane how much detail this game has now. I legit want to play it, hope my PC can handle it.
P06 relative to S06 is living proof that any game can be a massive success, but in order to do so, the games need to be given the time they need to properly breathe. Another example of this is Frontiers.
Frontiers was good but clearly a bit rushed. It was all going to be one massive island originally but SEGA forced them to cut it down to seperate areas for the switch port to work and to cut time. That's why there's like three separate islands with the same theme and why the level design falls off so heavily when reaching the third island. At least it isn't Sonic 06 or Pokemon SV levels of rushed, frontiers is actually playable and quite fun if a bit "jank" unlike those other two.
@@krimsonkatt fun fact the director of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka actually nearly got fired just for asking an extra month of development time on Frontiers
@@krimsonkatt I have not played the game myself, since I have no strong Sonic investment, but even from some gameplay videos I can see the notes of rushed development. The Giganto fight has things like simple "smash-cut" changes between animations when knocked back and some moves that just look a mite weird for Sonic to do when there are alternatives. And they are notable enough for the back-seat watching me to somewhat sour the exciting and, honestly, visibly fun segments of Super Sonic beatdown. If added some polish, the fight could easily change from "good" to "incredible".
The ability to customize the jump ball and homing attack is divine. This masterpiece is probably the closest we'll ever get to Sonic Adventure 3, and I'm here for it!
If Sega was smart, they would hire the people working on P-06 to fully remaster Sonic 06 & officially re-release it to critical acclaim. This would free Sega from its legacy & finally allow Sonic Team to experiment again.
@@John-XThe problem starts with the engine SEGA uses, you know, most game companies uses their own engine or an professional one. In that way ChaosX would need to know how to do this in another engine, redo all of his work with a time limit and some stuff being changed/removed due to problem with assets in another engine, or the lack of right to these assets. That is the problem with the "SEGA/Nintendo hire this guy" mentality, working alone/with a small group is nothing like working for a company. Project 06 is amazing, but it is a fangame at the end of the day, and that's okay, hopefully ChaosX can be hired in the future to work for SEGA in a new project, we know the community would love it. If you read all of this i really thank you, goodnight and God bless you.
I definitely don’t think it’s SA3. The game was meant to be a reboot and a demonstration for next-gen tech. However, I do think that SA3 might’ve been cancelled due to ‘06’s failure
I hope Chaos X makes his own original game someday. I love the movement in project 06. It's just a shame that there's not a lot of times where Sonic can move freely since there are a lot of automated section in the original game. That's why the more open and less scripted stages went from my least favorite levels in the original game to my most favorite.
It's definitely up there. My friend circle was just having a blast with both the Shadow and Silver releases when they came out. I still need to go back and unlock stuff but this is probably a top 10 Sonic game for me. It's just nice to effectively have a true SA3 here even if a build with the Bosses, Hubs, and Cutscenes doesn't happen (it probably will though).
Bosses and last story are going to be made together from the big man himself. Hubs and cutscenes are the one thing ChaosX doesn’t entirely know but we will see
@@whodatninja439 Nah, the hubs is fun though also because this is P-06 and everyone is not slow as a brick I think traversing the hub isn't going to take such a long time unlike the retail 06
As someone who's worn to the bone on 06 discourse, seeing P-06 thrive and smooth out as much as it possibly could of Sonic 06 really shows how much potential the original game had. And yeah, people are desperate to hold onto the past, can't let this dead horse be.
I think there is certainly a lot of "holding onto the past" but P-06 is still not a particularly good Sonic game or a good game at all really. It is still a problematic game. I have played it and at times liked it. But there were also many times I did not. Some of those things could be improved upon further but others cannot without fundamentally making a completely different game. There is also value in digging up that old horse and giving it more bruises though. SEGA has still not learned their lesson because people keep forgiving them. SEGA makes a decent or mediocre game and people praise the crap out of them for finally getting things together. Until SEGA actually gets back on track and starts making actual good games, Sonic 06's failings should be very much in mind.
There are people that are unwilling to forgive, not even to hate. Those are gonna be the REAL problem since at least the shitposters would be silenced and some haters even join us. But those that resent and never forgive?
@@juliansoria7733 We have to keep in mind that for some people like Narax, Sonic is a franchise that is (or was) near and dear to their heart. When 06 came out, after the missteps of flawed products like Heroes and Shadow 05, it seemed that SEGA had blown their last chance for redemption, and they believe the company will continue to flounder until they either step up their game (no pun intended), or sell the franchise to another company that does care and is willing to put in the work. Given the continued mixed reception of Sonic games to this day, some feel justified in abandoning hope for the blue blur. I personally enjoyed P-06, but I understand that for others, the stain this now-infamous title left on the franchise can never be removed.
Surely that also applies to the Sonic 06 fans who keep holding on to the past and won't let the dead horse be because of "muh ambition/passion/potential" right?
@@SirNarax Saying it isn't a good game is completely objective to your view. It isn't problematic because you don't like it. You are merely stating your opinion and making it out as it is a fact. You can have your opinion, but saying "its just not a good Sonic game" is your opinion only.
I remember playing 06 when I was 9 years old, and honestly I enjoyed that game a lot, like way way more than I should have, it was basically my favorite game for a good 3 years. Gonna be fun to play P06 to return to it and see what was changed
Fantastic Video J! Glad you were able to nail castle skip, it's a fun one. I do want to say, I appreciate that ending segment so much. For me, it's not even about 06, it's that Project 06 is just a really freaking fun game. So I admit I'm wrong and more: I pay my respects. He wanted to play a game so bad, he went out there and took matters into his own hands. Good job, man. And It doesn't sound like a bad deal to me at all. A full-featured, option-packed, *WORKING* , good-looking remake of a FULL 3D Sonic game, and it's not costing me a dime? Yes, I'm dipping. Nothing but perpetual gratitude for that. And thanks to you as well for bringing this to my attention through the lens of a true Sonic fan.
So, Clement's suggestion on how Silver should have been implemented into 06 (making Silver the FUCKYEAH power character) got realized in this fangame. Something tells me the creator watched his review.
@@nyhtfall1969 If I remembered his review correctly, Clement had an incandescent hatred towards Sonic 06 because it's official title was 'Sonic The Hedgehog'. Which he took it personal as he sees it being an attempt to say this was the definitive edition to the OG Sonic The Hedgehog on MegaDrive/Genesis (or as we called it in China, Sega 5th Generation). Anyways, if he did actively ignored P-06 I hope it's his trauma from the official game. Not actual malice towards the fan project.
@@qinlongfei i feel like it would be more his trauma I hope he's not dumb enough to act malicious to a fan project wouldn't exactly show him in a favourable light
Well considering Chaosx never played 06, coupled with the fact that Clement’s criticisms of 06 and what could it have done better in his eyes like Rouge not having a radar in kingdom valley clearly seemed to have influenced how Chaosx fixed the game, I think Clement would like project06.
It's a shame the developers have funding, but they have a deadline. Fans don't have a deadline, but they don't have the time or funding to do such incredible mods like these.
@@soliduszor It's more like 70%. Most of the assets, level design, gameplay concepts, story, and music are their work, and some of the original game's code was referenced for creating the game. Sonic Team just never got to finish it.
The fact that there are people actively shitting on an independent fan developer for fixing a game simply because he wanted to shows how truly ungrateful this fanbase is.
@colinjoesseppi ??? Why? Because I don't want to paint an unrealistically cynical picture of the fan base? This statement doesn't lift the game up, it uses it as an excuse to just hate back on the fans. Actually promoting the game is what helps it succeed, and that requires positive word of mouth which is not helped by randomly shitting on the entire fan base for no reason. Random hate is why reactions like this exists in the FIRST PLACE. Once everyone is pitted against eachother, the amazing technical marvel of this recreation is entirely forgotten
Admittedly I never finished Sonic 06, P-06 was a project I heard about early on but had no faith in because most Sonic projects at the time were nice and pretty tech demos and gimmicks that either overstay their welcome or don't commit to what was promised. I now WANT to play this, and the good rep this project has gotten recently as well as a general growth in tolerance has reminded me I was a hardcore Sonic fan at one point. And Sonic 06 was a game that on purchase excited me. It looks good, and maybe it'll be bittersweet
I actually like the story of 06, I thought the "gaps" in what was going on was fun because of the time travel mechanic. It felt like there was definitely a bigger picture I was only seeing a small part of and it gave me this fun relationship with the game where I wasn't sure if I was the good guy or not until all the cards got laid out on the table.
Dude thank you for bringing attention to this. I had NO IDEA it was a thing and I'm HYPED right now. My build should be able to handle this FOR SURE. I'm just hoping it's 60 fps minimum.
SEGA works in mysterious ways. They will avoid the adventure formula like the plague now because of the failures of this game, without realizing that the mistake was not the formula, but their bad habits. Rushing development to fit a console launch, hyping up titles that are way too early in development, and not giving enough time for a development team to breathe. This happens to many developers, but SEGA seems to chronically suffer from it with Sonic (cause Yakuza and Persona don't have this problem). Frontiers definitely is the right step forward, but then you learn things like the director getting almost fired because he asked for a month of extra time.
On another note, while modern gaming continues to disappoint us on the macro level, indie developers like ChaosX are out here achieving unparalled feats within the gaming sphere. In a way, they act as the silver lining in an otherwise dark and dreary world that we see today. Great video. Thank you for giving exposure to this guy, we need more poeple like him.
You use big words to sound smart, but you don’t even give credit to games that truly go above and beyond like TotK, Elden Ring, etc. But I get it, that doesn’t get you many internet points, it’s much easier to be pessimistic and say the world is an awful place
for those interested chaos x has returned to working on p-06 and is currently doing end of the world there is a video by someone else playing through what has currently been done and some significant changes have been made. from memory the big notable change i remember is fixing rouge's section in wave ocean where in the original you just had to climb a rock stack or two and fly to the beach but now you actively have to navigate the structures to make it to the emerald. he also took the emerald models from unleashed and scaled them to what was needed so they look leagues better in the current state of "final story release". and for those wondering yes those statues that need to be touched to reset the death timer are still there as the black holes still form.
Another really neat detail I'll always appreciate this game for is that in White Acropolis, it is possible to see the destroyed moon from Sonic Adventure 2
P0-6 is amazing. I can't wait to see ChaosX work on the boss battles, as well as the town missions. I hope we will eventually get to play this game through the whole story in a way closer to what was originally intended than we ever got.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this summary and I have said this myself for a while; Sonic 06 was clearly not finished and what has been done with P-06 shows what could have been given more dev time/resource. Sure, there is an element of hindsight with this, but as you said in the video all that has been done is improve on what was already there in the game and added in quality of life changes rather than complete ground up remake.
While Sonic Adventure 2 will always remain my favorite Sonic game im pretty confident in saying that Project 06 is my second favorite Sonic game and i would honestly argue that its one of the best remakes of all time and the fact that this was made by a fan that didnt even play the original 06 makes this even more impressive. Like it legit feels like ChaosX travelled to an alternate timeline where 06 was good and came back with that version of 06 so we could experience it in our timeline.
He didn't even play the original 06? That's a big mark against ChaosX. How can he properly remake the game when he doesn't even know what was wrong with it?
@@donovanblackwelder4301 But now we know that as good as P-06 is already, it would be at least three times as good if ChaosX had taken the time to play the original Sonic 2006 himself, since you can't properly remake the game if you don't know what is wrong with it.
26:37 this entire section is one of the most satisfying things I've ever watched. Building up a massive combo and getting a massive score in return never gets old for me, it's reason why the Mech Stages in SA2 are my favorite ones.

Was hoping you’d cover this J. Honestly I’m an absolute sucker for games which I feel have had a vision, even if sometimes it isn’t executed as well as it could be. As a child I always loved the vision of 06, the multiple characters and actual story. I remember wanting to complete a level to see where the story was going to go next. 06 had huge potential and it’s great to see the hard work going into this project is truly unlocking it🎉
I can't wait for a complete build with the hub world and story fully realized. 06 really had such much potential and seeing it realized will be a dream come true.
I've only been recently folowing this game all I can say is; It definately lives up to all the hype. ChaosX is truely an absolute madlad and gigachad for taking one of the most infamous blunders in gaming history, and transforming it into a work of art. This, and the fangame community as a whole is a true testitmate to the Sonic fandom's devotion.
On paper Sonic 06 is the perfect adventure formula. It really hurts that this wasnt the game we got cz you can see how fun and immersive it is. The amazing level designs finally shine cause of the revemped gameplay.
ChaosX and you are the best mates. I'm a Cameroonian who had as first console an Xbox 360 and first game Sonic 06. I loved the game more than any other I had 'cause i'm a great Sonic fan. I was torn when because of bugs I couldn't go further in the gameplay. ChaosX just gave me a new reason to go to the game all over again. I just want to thank you 'cause you made me cry and believe in a license i've lost faith into. Thanks really bruh.
Agreed. When I tried this out for the first time, I couldn't believe how good it felt compared to mainline efforts from the Sonic franchise. Great video!
Sonic P-06 is so great it really proves 06 itself had the potential to be the Sonic Game ever and ChaosX deserves all the praise for showing what could have been It also makes me wish Silver, Blaze or Amy had their own game like Shadow got, Silver deserves his own game and frankly enough, if 06 was a success Silver would’ve gotten his own game, it’s also the reason why Silver has his name. Sonic, Shadow and Silver all start with an S, _”Smokin Sexy Style”_ if you catch my Devil Trigger, Sega thought that since Silver’s name started with an S and he’s also a Hedgehog people would immediately think, “Hey he’s from Sonic” and that would help if Silver got his own game.
Sonic P-06 is truly phenomenal I love the options it presents, customizing the UI, giving characters the SA1 styled jumpballs, I never knew I needed Silver to do a little hover when reaching top speed on the ground it fits him like a glove, Blaze has a cute Paw Pounce and a Dolphin-like leaping attack (Ecco the Dolphin Reference maybe?) and Amy, oh my goodness, my sweet princess Amy got the biggest glow up ever! She’s easily the most fun to play, I think she has an idle animation where she does some Tarot Card Magic and even makes the Sonic Team logo with that magic! Great stuff! Bless ChaosX!
I must say, your positive energy throughout this video is such a joy to watch. I pray every developer gets to see their work enjoyed and appreciated with such honesty and dedication. Bravo
Why are people going out of their way to make fun of a guy for making a fan game they don't have to like and refuse to provide reasons why they don't like it? Try viewing this game separate from the original 06, it's incredible. ChaosX is doing awesome and I can't wait to see what's next
Idk why, but Shadow's chaos blasts animation from the original is just plain hilarious 😂 24:25. He's just spreading his arms and doing the pose all awkwardly in the middle of the air lmao. Really shows how unfinished the original Sonic 06 is.
This reminds me of the Mega Man X6 improvement project. Both are great not only because of the immense skills of their creators, but also because they put a highlight on the potential that these maligned entries always had. Some of my favorite games are heavily flawed because I enjoy searching for interesting concepts in middling or even straight-up bad games even if their execution falls short, so seeing these titles revived in a form that finally capitalizes on their potential is really neat.
I've watched let's plays of X6 and X7 before X4 or X5. I now have a fondness for X6's [badly executed] ideas. I've watched let's plays of Sonic 06 and Shadow 05 before ANY OTHER SONIC GAME (besides CD) and it's _still_ true - I've heard a lot about Adventure 1 and 2, Unleashed, Forces, 3&K, Mania etc. but I've never actualy played or watched let's plays of them. I've only recently started playing Sonic 1. Still love the two (kinda). :)
I've played X6 improvement project. The creator tried, but X6 is still an absolutely garbage game even with the patch. You can polish a turd but it's still a turd. X6 will never not be the worst Mega Man game, unless of course Capcom makes something even worse. But since they don't make Mega Man games anymore, that's not going to happen.
The work here is extremely impressive. I do think 06 had potential that was wasted, and I'm glad someone else thought that and even dedicated their time to it. What a brilliant project, the amount of commitment has my upmost respect.
Wow! I wasn't aware of this project! It looks phenomenal. SEGA truly has the most devoted fanbase. Now I want SEGA to get in touch with ChaosX and do a proper rerelease.
I get that he doesn't want to work for sega because of their rush problems but he can just publish it and sonic team can add their own ideas because I'm sure p06 will do really good on consoles

He got no royalties and couldn't even get his next game off the ground with a crowdfunding campaign. It's a terrible idea. P-06 is fantastic. ChaosX is wise not to give up his status as an independent developer. And I say that as someone who also develops games. No sense in ruining a good thing.
I'm excited to learn that this even exists! I wanted to like Sonic '06 so bad, it was the first next-gen sonic title we got and demo really set my expectations high. I'm glad someone has taken the time to smooth over and redo a lot of work that would've made this a worthy successor to the previous 3D titles.
To be honest, Sonic 06 was always my favorite game when I was a child. I didn't know about glitches and stuff and I always amired the team up of Sonic, Shadow and Silver. Now, I really am glad over P-06. I love ChaosX:s work and how he transformed this game to the full potential. I think we really should honor and praise it rather than hate on it.
Now that ChaosX jas stated that He's going to work on Final story and the bosses I can't wait to see this project finished With all the proper cut scenes in their places and the story fully together. Weather or not ChaoX is going to add the Over worlds well that remains to be seen as he said he'll think about it when he reaches that point.
42:34 love these comparisons and a great point. This game was built from a strong foundation that lost its way or had it controlled by powers out of their hands
I am impressed but I am always curious what created the drive for this fangame. The game is 15 years old, Shouting about its potential is kind of just as old as hating it by this point. Feels more like a project started to prove the game could of been something if all the stars aligned for it. I prefer the sonic riders fan project myself since thats bringing back a concept we know Sonic Team will never touch again. Props to the people working on it though.
Yes... But not yet. Once the game is completed (if that's even a truly possible feat) we can regard it as one of the best titles the series has to offer, official or not
Honestly, in the state it's in right now, it's already one of the best. The gameplay is that solid, but I would still like to see it totally completed.
@@DewMan31 yeah, it's already fantastic, but for now we only have the stages. The average 3d sonic game has more than just stages yknow... We'll see if the project is eventually completed
@@playbossthebest936 I mean, colors, Generations and Adventure 2 are basically nothing but stages and cutscenes. I get where you're coming from though.
I've been trying to find an answer online but maybe you know, is there any content missing to make the game "complete" or is it just going to be bug fixes and other improvements?
@@Pixelhurricane Yes, there is content not in the current build. Currently P06 just has a level select with no hub world or bosses and most of the cutscenes (ones that aren't part of the level) aren't there. Also there is no final story. Basically what P06 currently does and doesn't include: Does Include -All 9 characters fully playable with new movesets. -All main stages from all three campaigns. -All glitches fixed. -Redone physics. (no longer broken) -Some new and removed stage sections. -Changes to specific level gimmicks. -All in-level cutscenes and dialogue. DOES NOT Include -The FMVs. -Cutscenes outside of the actual stages. -Any and all boss fights. -The entirety of the final story. -All the hub worlds. -All of the hub world missions/side quests.
For me it's genuinely amazing that we have a version of 06 that makes it easier to appreciate the good parts a lot more than before, considing most of it's flaws have been fixed.
Comes to prove that when game developers have passion, we get gold. It's such a shame that a ton of game developers now (and some back then) are just doing it to gain a quick buck.
There's a mod to swap to any character and it's so cool to come up with creative ways to complete levels with other characters and it also shows that the level design in this game is really good.
That part about people who will never be happy is a point everyone needs to talk about. We need to move past this stigma of "If you like this game, you're a child" because that ironically makes you a child for even suggesting such an argument. When this game is ready, I wanna see it played by every Sonic TH-camr or even just Let's Play channels in general. Imagine how much redemption could be made if Arin Hanson himself played the finished P-06 and actually liked it? The internet would change its tune immediately.
I think gamers in general are already tiring of Arin and won't give a toss what he thinks anymore unless he himself grows up. Him loving '06 isn't going to be some Hollywood romantic panacea. If anyone "needs to" play something like P-06, it'd be someone like fighting game and FFVII lord Maximilian Dood or Wha Happun? host Matt McMuscles. I'd throw Korone and Gura in there as well, but hololive's under a Japanese company and thus has to play by Japanese law, and I doubt Sega of Japan would be as open as Sega of America to having fangames shown off.
I agree with that statement entirely. I remember watching a streamer who I respected get asked if he would ever play Animal Crossing and his response was just "No that game is for babies" and then proceeded to list why it was for babies and how every life-sim game like it and Stardew Valley and even Minecraft is too and everyone who plays them are babies for like 20 minutes. Dude could've just said "Nah I don't like life-sims" and been fine but had to dig himself a whole and double-down on a very exclusionary opinion. I'm 23, I like brutally tough games, rpgs, and shooters as much as the next guy, but sometimes something chill and less action-packed can be fun, doesn't mean the people who like those kind of games are children.
@@arfrostbyte245 I think that boils down to the casual gamer vs. hardcore gamer attitude. Both are entirely valid ways to enjoy a game, but some people have to make it their problem. It's just elitism with a different facade and elitism sucks ass for creativity and fun.
I'd like to try it! I played the original and finished it when it came out. I always thought there were a lot of cool ideas, but it was glitchy as hell with garbage controls. And I liked Silver's part in the original, just because it was so different. The whole telekinesis thing was always cool to me. So I'm definitely excited by the idea that Silver's section is getting such praise
I'm such a huge fan of these projects where people try and often succeed in fixing old games, it shows that brilliancy can be hidden in the least expected of places, and it also speaks about second chances.
Let me say ChaosX does not owe the Sonic Community anything, especially after all the amazing work they've done out of their own passion. But I would LOVE to see them develop their own original Sonic fan game once they've completed their work on P06. I know it's easier fixing something that's broken than building something from scratch; but ChaosX has shown they have a real talent and creativity for game design, especially as it pertains to this franchise and these characters. I can only imagine what they would be able to produce if they were given full creative control over a project.
I love the detail of Silver's bar being empty when you start the level. It's little touches like that that I love. Like when Mythra slaps Rex and you have a tiny bit of damage when you start the fight immediatly afterwards.
I know ChaosX said he has no desire of working for Sega, but after P-06 is fully complete it would be so good if this game got a release on Steam. Yes I know avoid 06 like the plague, but after The Murder of Sonic you could also release P-06 on Steam for free on April Fools, no achievement, nothing, just release there. It is a damn shame and also awesome the best version of Sonic 2006 is in form of a fan game, but that leaves it relegated mostly inside the Sonic fandom. The people should be playing it are the Sonic 06 haters, and a Steam release for free would give it more exposure.
Gotta love the internet sometimes, ChaosX does something that massively improves and basically fixes a previous infamous game in the franchise...and people still find it in their cold cynical hearts to throw shade at the man and the project. What a time to be alive.
Silver has always been my favourite Sonic character. I cannot really explain it, but it honestly started in Sonic Dash (yes that mobile game) and I always love it when he’s in a Sonic title, however minor the role I love seeing him at least remembered in the series. I never played Sonic 06, which is probably a good thing from what people had said, but I always wished he had more recognition. I always saw him as a Trio with Sonic and Shadow. Triple S. Project 06 and how ChaosX handled Silver is honestly the best thing I’ve heard all year. Silver has such a key place in my heart and seeing his character given justice really makes my day. Thank you ChaosX for giving my favourite character the chance to shine, in a way his actual Debut never did. (Cross posted on ChaosX’s video of the Silver release)
I've been aware of this project since one of the earliest demos with the Sonic and Silver stage released and I'm so pleased to see that it's come this far. ChaosX has earned some well deserved time off, but I'm also very excited to see what comes next, the final fight with Solaris is gonna be so sick. Definitely gonna play this when I can cuz it's like you said, it shows that Sonic 06 had some real potential under the jank and P06 has helped realize that potential.
It's sad because this is the kind of fix id expect updates in this era of gaming to do. But they are so half assed or I'm too jaded to care after their initial fuck up and take forever to do the update fix. Then there's the "why didn't they do this shit before launch" Glad to see 06 get a complete makeover though. Sega should remake this game and correct their wrongs.
finally, someone did my boi - Silver justice. now i wanna to play P-06 just because how fun Silver is to play at. also to somewhat answer your question of why Silver keep coming back in other Sonic games despire how bad/hated he is in 06 is because of many things: the comic kind of saved his reputation and with well writen backstory, better personalities and ppl just love a Sonic character that can use telekinesis. So he quickly became a fan favorite, plus his design is just so meme-able just look at the front of his head. it just sad Sega never got his gameplay right and now the fans have to do it for them.
I'm just curious if they get tight deadlines or not. Seems like that happens to Sonic Team often but no one ever speaks if they have short deadlines, crunch, or lack of staff. How come they never have things done on time? It makes me really curious about frontiers because how far behind could you have been to need a full year?
@@creativename152 60 Does sound like a low number for an entirely new concept for sonic in an open world. I still give Sonic Frontiers a B overall though.
Project 06’ is so crazy of a step forward for what Retail 06’ could have been. Chaos X and the team created something fantastic and I hope Sega takes note of how positive the feedback for this fan game has become
Man, I never really liked sonic games too much but this fan remake actually looks fantastic. The fact that a few devs could make one of the worst games of all time into a really fantastic one is an incredible feat. I will probably check this out
I've recently got into this fandom. And ever since day one, I ALWAYS had a curiosity over Sonic O6. It was almost mind blowing how down south this game went, that for some reason alone made Silver one of my fave characters. I honest to god dreamed this would get some kinda redemption, just to see what it was like. So glad I finally get to see it in it's true glory.
In the superspeed segments, I used to hate dying. It meant waiting another million years for the loading screen just to probably die again in a few seconds from something that wasn’t my fault. In P-06, I love dying! I mean, it can get frustrating, but now I know it’s not the games fault. It’s my fault. Instead of dying because of one of the many flaws within the game, it was because I was choosing to go too fast or I didn’t know which direction to go. It had a Soulsborne effect, where dying was an opportunity to learn because you made a mistake, and now you can improve.
The two Sonic games that I thought really went in a great direction that ended up being victims of being half baked with poor execution were Sonic '06 and Sonic Chronicles. Since I was a kid, I've really wanted remakes of these games that gave these concepts a fair shake and finally gave them the ability to become the great games I knew they could become! With Project-06, now half of this dream has come true. I hope one day, someone steps up to redo Sonic Chronicles in a similar fashion! Great video as always!
Even though it’s not finished yet, I’m gonna wait until the next update comes out because I am really interested to see how he will fix the boss fights and some of the hub worlds and make them more interesting
The thing is that with Sonics Mach speed sections I always liked that you couldn’t slow down making it feel like your in a rush but because in po6 you can go to a snails pace in Mach speed you can just go for a walk while Eggmans getting away with Elise
I struggled with OG Sonic 06, so hearing that this game is near completion, brings a tear to my eye knowing that this game is being restored to its proper glory.
Silver has always been my favorite Sonic character, and ChaosX making him the powerhouse he deserves to be, while also turning a dumpster fire of a game into something genuinely enjoyable just shows how good Sonic can be when proper care is put into it
Fun fact when I got my gaming laptop, This was the first game I got on it and dude I was hyped. Chaos X you absolute legend. What he is doing is so freaking inspiring.
It remember years ago on a forum saying, “I wish Sega would just release Sonic 06 on PC and let the mod community fix it.” when someone told me about this project.
Ayo random TH-cam recommendation As someone who never played the original sonic 06 and has only heard the horror stories of the game; youve sold me, i want to try this out sometime
I'm a massive fan of P-06. I remember both Sonic and the Shadow releases dropping, my jaw dropping right after. The project has made SHADOW my go-to character in the game! The exhilirating score game, the amazing revamped abilities...! I simply couldn't get enough of it. However, thinking about the Silver release, I've had some... worries. The previous campaigns, in base 06, were largely botched gameplay styles that we all liked to varying extent. Some new elements, but a familiar base, which P-06 restores to its intended glory. Silver, on the other hand, was an outliar. He was a purely physics based, almost tech-demo-esque character to show off the next gen capabilities. "How could ChaosX possibly fix that?" I wondered. Flashforward to current events and... I don't mean to sound like a killjoy, but the Silver Release was the first one to leave me really underwhelmed and even frustrated at times. No disrespect to ChaosX and those helping him. Project 06 is outstanding and it's done miracles to some of the base 06 issues. That being said, there's only so much mileage you can get out of the "pick object up/throw object" gameplay loop. Most of the issues that tanked Silver down in the base game carried over to the revamped project for me, as some objects would simply miss, some objects would bounce off of one another and so on and so forth. I'd also like to note that the final upgrade was quite the tough sell when it required you to master the entire campaign already. The first upgrade also seemed like something that just should've been with Silver by default. The reason I'm typing all of this out is due to the finale of the video. While, of course, blatantly hating a project for attempting to fix a game you don't like is childish at best, I want people to keep in mind that the base game is... well... still not for everyone. There were people concerned that the Silver Release couldn't possibly fix the base Silver campaign and, after it released, to those people, me included, it went about as expected. I really wish Silver would get his time to shine in a separate game, one where his abilities could be explored in a much more meaningful manner. Love the guy and incredibly glad he's still around. All that being said, great video. Once again, only wishing ChaosX all the best and looking forward to seeing the finale/bosses implemented into one of my favourite fan projects.
There's no "getting good" at a system of throwing boxes at enemies. When you encorporate the post-game upgrade into the mix - that's a different topic, of course. The "frustration" was referring to the bells from Kingdom Valley, in fact, yes. I've got nothing to add to this. I'm not a fan of Silver's base gameplay. No amount of overhauls will change it. That's just my opinion and it in no way harms yours or the project. I get where you're coming from but there's no need to try and "defend" the project from something that isn't really direct criticism. This campaign is just not for me. Same as the Werehog is not everyone's cup of tea. Easy as that.
There's nothing fun about that, though
2 hours of GET A LOAD OF THIS Eggman really predicted the future with that line
Yeah, I remember that "Everything wrong with" vid that also mentioned that...
Pretty insane considering how much of our lives get wasted on load screens, and then the original 06 pulled that somehow....
Except that's not counting all the times you'll have to repeat them because of bullshit deaths caused by jank throwing you out of the level and such.

I was 11 years old when I was gifted an Xbox 360 and sonic 06 for Christmas. I honestly never touched the game until a year later when my dad committed suicide. In one of the worst times of my life, Sonic 06 helped me through it. It was my escape from reality. the thing about 06 is that it tried. it wanted to be great but never had a chance. it wasn't a cashgrab but an honest disaster.
and people can always tell when that's the case. that's why they care about it and want to see what it could have been so badly.
Sonic 06 tried to be something more mature and deep, and I would wish SEGA had given it another chance instead of admitting defeat and regurgitating Green Hill Zone for a decade later.
"it wasn't a cashgrab but an honest disaster" is such a solid take. I wish we had more honest disasters these days. at least the passion is there.
Tell that to 2016's Batman V Superman... I agree with the sentiment, but a good heart doesn't save a brittle skeleton, atrophied muscles, and failing kidneys.
...however P06 does make a very good argument.
And this is exactly why Sonic Forces Is worse than Sonic 06
When you look at early documentation of Sonic 06's development, you realise the business aspect of game developing is what really destroyed the vision of this game. (As is too often the case nowadays)
They had so many things proposed (like dynamic night and day cycles having an effect on the game world) but cut back on to get it out by a certain date, reallocation or resources, etc. If they were given the opportunity the game and devs deserved/needed, this would have been our Sonic Adventure 3 taken to heights we couldn't have even imagined back then.
Just seeing what I have now...I will say only this:
A thousand blessings on the bloodlines of ChaosX and his team, for a thousand generations. They deserve all the love. All of it.

A thousand blessings from here too.
This is... THE game, where I don't have to be worried about the game's quality or polish and to play it because it's overall fun until the dinner feast arrives
When you mention about the "annoying comments" surrounding Chaos' work, I feel like they're either scared of it's success or that they're not able to look pass what was wrong in the past and then trying to think about what could've been improve which is what the game solves todo, which distances them from the sincere hope that the game has and what everyone has been feeling. I do know however, that no matter what kind of successful game you make, there will always be people who will like what you do, and there will always be people who will dislike what you do. You cannot please everyone
All I'm saying is, Sonic Project '06 is like my magnum opus of all time, it is PEAK not just as a Sonic game but in the work of fangames, just taking one of the most disastrous games and improving it up until it is near perfection, that right there... is soo inspiring to people like me.
The hard work on this project really paid off. Fantastic work from everybody involved.

A lot of burden is coming up on you. I wonder if you're going to work on the story cutscenes while ChaosX takes his rest, giving you time to catch up to his work, or if you'll wait for him to model the hubworlds. I also wonder If you'll do the CG Cutscenes as well.

I have not played the game myself, since I have no strong Sonic investment, but even from some gameplay videos I can see the notes of rushed development.

It IS Sonic Adventure 3.
I hope Chaos X makes his own original game someday. I love the movement in project 06. It's just a shame that there's not a lot of times where Sonic can move freely since there are a lot of automated section in the original game.

Sonic P-06 is so great it really proves 06 itself had the potential to be the Sonic Game ever and ChaosX deserves all the praise for showing what could have been
It also makes me wish Silver, Blaze or Amy had their own game like Shadow got, Silver deserves his own game and frankly enough, if 06 was a success Silver would’ve gotten his own game, it’s also the reason why Silver has his name.
The only problem with perfection is theres never enough of it.

Those ppl should touch some grass

I love how the creator never had the chance to play the game and said “Okay then, I’ll just make it myself”
You know P06 is amazing when J puts the title as "best Sonic game" and not "best fan-made Sonic game."
Unleashed is better imo
@@bigmanliam no not really
Then there's the "why didn't they do this shit before launch"
Glad to see 06 get a complete makeover though. Sega should remake this game and correct their wrongs.
"It's older now than Sonic 1 was when Sonic 06 released."
Wow, just put me in the ground
finally, someone did my boi - Silver justice. now i wanna to play P-06 just because how fun Silver is to play at.
also to somewhat answer your question of why Silver keep coming back in other Sonic games despire how bad/hated he is in 06 is because of many things: the comic kind of saved his reputation and with well writen backstory, better personalities and ppl just love a Sonic character that can use telekinesis. So he quickly became a fan favorite, plus his design is just so meme-able just look at the front of his head. it just sad Sega never got his gameplay right and now the fans have to do it for them.
The fact that the director of Sonic Frontiers begged SEGA for another year of development shows that SEGA didnt learn anything from Sonic 06
I'm just curious if they get tight deadlines or not. Seems like that happens to Sonic Team often but no one ever speaks if they have short deadlines, crunch, or lack of staff. How come they never have things done on time?
It makes me really curious about frontiers because how far behind could you have been to need a full year?
@@aerostrafe1075 remember when SEGA said they're choosing quality over quantity in 2021? That only happened cz the director begged for another year.
@@aerostrafe1075 Frontiers only had 60 ppl working on it I believe
@@creativename152 60 Does sound like a low number for an entirely new concept for sonic in an open world.
I still give Sonic Frontiers a B overall though.
@@aerostrafe1075Same when all the dlc comes out ill give it like a 7.5/10 maybe
The moment when he showed the tweets was very heart breaking...
Seriously. People can not let things change their mind. The rhetoric will always be in their mind instead of giving something a chance
Ah, fuck 'em all. They wanna throw a little childish tantrum let 'em throw a tantrum
Mad respect to the ChaosX for his dedication to P-06. 👍
It remember years ago on a forum saying, “I wish Sega would just release Sonic 06 on PC and let the mod community fix it.” when someone told me about this project.
Ayo random TH-cam recommendation
As someone who never played the original sonic 06 and has only heard the horror stories of the game; youve sold me, i want to try this out sometime
