I love the choice to use the classic 2nd ed Gretchin, I used 200 of them in a tournament back in the 90s, I still get flashbacks of trying to batch paint than many over a week :) John Blanche taught me how to paint back in 88, he used to go to the stores sometimes and you could just sit at a table and paint a selection of models, John would just give you advice and show you techniques to try, he was this huge biker guy with a Denim jacket with the sleeves cut off back then, and gotta admit he also influenced my dress sense ever since meeting him, I painted an old le1 Metal Power Armour trooper with an integrated backpack, still got it in my cabinet, John taught me to use Sepia washes even back then, and its still a staple of my painting style, I met him a couple of times, and he has to be one of the most down to earth and friendliest guys ever, I really don't think he ever realises how much of an absolute Rockstar he is among the old GW fans.
Having recently switched over to Army Painter as my main brand, a lot of these are excellent replacements for a few of my old brand favorite workhorses that were missing - especially now that I've seen them in full use here (thanks Phil!).
I plan on getting both of these sets to go along with my enamels and oil paints that I already use. Getting John Blanche to come in and select a bunch of paints was a genius marketing move by Army Painter. Now, if only they could find a way to make me as artistically skilled as him....
I don't feel like you've tried the Fanatic line or SpeedPaints 2.0 of that's your take ... I would put their new acrylics up against any other paint line and SpeedPaints 2.0 solved the reactivation issues from 1.0
Really hoping for a true red as I find that is missing from the whole line. I kinda thought that new red in this box set was going to address that but it seems it’s like a fire orange/red unless my eyes are playing tricks lol.
First off, Dang, man. You're looking good! I'm glad the stuff from the "life update" video is working out for you. It's definitely showing and I'm proud of you, man! Second, those paints look excellent. That Turnbull Turquoise looks like a *fantastic* base coat to keep the shaded areas darker and then you could just "non speedpaint" the model's other parts you wanted actually painted. You rock, man. 😊
Cool, I emailed TAP the other week requesting darker colours, as I the old warpaints had some good dark colours (necromancer cloak, hardened carapace, cultist robe etc). I also wish they'd bring back their Field Grey). The Ivory is a great addition, I won't need to buy Vallejo Ivory anymore.
I'm interested in both and plan on picking up both for a while now. I have similar paints already, and I've been really enjoying fanatic paints so far. The paints line up with a lot of future projects I have in mind. Cool video going over the new sets.
I really like desaturated colors, and i feel you on getting the mix correct each time has been a problem for me I also like having a nice paint i can pick up and get to painting with for a long term projects without having to work on recreating the paint mix each time so i am excited to pick these up and base a scheme around the dark greys. Also i think the blanche berry might be my base for reds and highlighting up with the vermilion might get me the classic grim dark style red I have been trying to get down.
Blanched berry for some risen robes, blood moon red over metallic for Horus heresy thousand sons, the darkness just looks amazing, some really good colors there
Volume 2 looks to be able to fill in some of the holes in my paint collection, I'd like to pick it up. I love the Art of John Blanche, so I'm glad to see he's getting some attention these days.
Without wanting to be callous but I think he is doing a lot to leave a legacy etc. he hasn't been well the last few years and maybe he thinks he needs to leave more behind for his family and the community
3:58 Hard to say based on this video alone, but that looks like they've finally added a proper red. The previous Fanatic red was a bit too salmon/pinkish to my taste.
The question I have is whether these colors are going to be released independently from the sets? I really want the green and olive colors but I don't want to splash $100 for them and not sure if I can resupply them.
Interesting set! I’m assuming they’re only making this for a limited time? Is it a bad idea to use these for my army since I won’t be able to easily replace the colors?
Great showcase! Did you thin the Grim Rust with Warpaints Stabilizer or is that out of the bottle? Cuz I looks quite a bit thinner and more washy than the Dark Rust at least. A good thing in my book btw
Is there a rationale for why two of the colors are speedpaints? Has TAP collaborated with Blanche on any educational materials about how to achieve his style? A little strange to see his name used but no real connection to him.
really hoping TAP keeps up this trend with the fanatic line. the paints themselves are amazing, but I did feel there were just a few niche colors missing from the whole range (which i own in complete form!) so it's nice to see they aren't against releasing "expansion packs"
Protip: John Blanche didn't have this set when he was painting all of his amazing works in the John Blanche style.... if he can do it without it so you can you. Most of yall likely already have these colors anyway. Don't fall prey to these systems (triads) you don't need them. This isnt paint by numbers and you limit yoursleves by this and don't even realize it.
Personally I don't like mixing my own colors, and these are all new colors to the Army Painter line. So while you might be good without them, I think they are gonna add a lot of value to my options for painting and it feels weird to call a company offering more options predatorial.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him yet, but I really hope I can! He definitely seems like a great guy! 😀

I'm hoping they can do that for me too 😏
@@TheGlacialGeekJohn deserves better than Army Painter..bad paints..reactivation makes all the worst
I don't feel like you've tried the Fanatic line or SpeedPaints 2.0 of that's your take ... I would put their new acrylics up against any other paint line and SpeedPaints 2.0 solved the reactivation issues from 1.0
That speedpaint red is an actualy one paint blood angel. Like that gretchin looked like it could go lineup with blood angels and wouldnt stand out
Really hoping for a true red as I find that is missing from the whole line. I kinda thought that new red in this box set was going to address that but it seems it’s like a fire orange/red unless my eyes are playing tricks lol.
It certainly has an orange hue to it, but it certainly reads red
This is a good overview of these new paints. Thank you!
First off,
Dang, man. You're looking good! I'm glad the stuff from the "life update" video is working out for you. It's definitely showing and I'm proud of you, man!

You rock, man. 😊
Thanks man! 😀 ... I also think Turnbull Turquoise is gonna go into heavy rotation for me!
I'm really digging that heavy metal, reminds me of the old bolt gun metal GW had 20 years ago.
Tainted Garden looks great!
Cool, I emailed TAP the other week requesting darker colours, as I the old warpaints had some good dark colours (necromancer cloak, hardened carapace, cultist robe etc).

that yellow looks the best!
I'm interested in both and plan on picking up both for a while now. I have similar paints already, and I've been really enjoying fanatic paints so far. The paints line up with a lot of future projects I have in mind. Cool video going over the new sets.
Ironclad grey looks like a great tire black

Love what TAP is doing will their paint line. They’re so into the hobby, and it shows.
I'm still waiting for the Icy Winters porn paint set
Too bad their paints are terrible and still have reactivation issues.
Blanched berry for some risen robes, blood moon red over metallic for Horus heresy thousand sons, the darkness just looks amazing, some really good colors there
Really appreciate the swatches! Thank you!
I am really excited to tey these when they arrive. Especially the grey, the Gold and the shades 👌
Volume 2 looks to be able to fill in some of the holes in my paint collection, I'd like to pick it up. I love the Art of John Blanche, so I'm glad to see he's getting some attention these days.

They look so good, but my OCD is annoyed that I now need to find a way to store them since I have 3D printed storage for 6 in a line.
Yeah my storage shelf thingy fits 12 bottles across which was perfect for two flexible triads 🫠
3:58 Hard to say based on this video alone, but that looks like they've finally added a proper red. The previous Fanatic red was a bit too salmon/pinkish to my taste.
You are making me want to try out speed paints more and more
SpeedPaints are awesome! They have totally changed how I paint!
Waiting for these sets to paint my entire set of Boarding actions terrain ! :D
Still a bit of a gap in the deeper dark reds area, but those browns and vibrant red are very welcome additions to the range
Unchained!
WOOOOO!! 😀
The question I have is whether these colors are going to be released independently from the sets? I really want the green and olive colors but I don't want to splash $100 for them and not sure if I can resupply them.
They will be released as singles late spring or summer! 😀
@@TheGlacialGeek That's perfect! I might still grab the boxes because I just noticed it comes with a print too but good to know otherwise
Hope the newyear went well bro 👍❤️🤘🔥💪
Interesting set! I’m assuming they’re only making this for a limited time? Is it a bad idea to use these for my army since I won’t be able to easily replace the colors?
Actually, they plan on releasing them as singles sometime in late spring or summer!
Darn can't see this on army painters homepage was gonna use your coupon code too...
They go on pre-order January 10th!
Great showcase! Did you thin the Grim Rust with Warpaints Stabilizer or is that out of the bottle? Cuz I looks quite a bit thinner and more washy than the Dark Rust at least. A good thing in my book btw
That's straight out of the bottle ... It is a bit thinner for sure
@ exciting :)
Does the Grim Rust have grit in it, or does it just have the multitone, splotchy rust look?
It has the grit like the other two rust effects
@TheGlacialGeek awesome thanks!
Phil!
Are they out yet? I need them
They go on pre-order January 10th!
@TheGlacialGeek thank you I always loved john blanche's style
Hi, your Top Products link seems to be broken. Leads to a 404 Not Found error.
Yeah I let them know and they said they are looking into it 😕 ... Thanks for the heads up though!
think this needs to reworked redone? someone was having a bad rushed day?
Is there a rationale for why two of the colors are speedpaints? Has TAP collaborated with Blanche on any educational materials about how to achieve his style? A little strange to see his name used but no real connection to him.
well this is just an auto-buy isn't it?
Who is John Blanche?
He's an artist who illustrated a lot of the early Games Workshop work ... Look up his work, it's pretty incredible! 😀
really hoping TAP keeps up this trend with the fanatic line. the paints themselves are amazing, but I did feel there were just a few niche colors missing from the whole range (which i own in complete form!) so it's nice to see they aren't against releasing "expansion packs"
Same! When I saw the paints I was VERY happy to see they filled some key gaps in the line!
Protip:
