Taylor, All you probably need is a flat plate baffle at the end of the filter to stop the sound from going straight out the end of the filter into the pickup tube. I think you have enough space to weld a piece of flat plate to the back of the box and just space it between the end of the filter and inlet opening. The baffle only has to be large enough to redirect the sound coming straight out of the filter. Think about a factor air box, there is always some form of baffle system, either a set of ribs/fins along the bottom or sides or both, but many just have that one larger plate just inside the inlet pipe. I think that is all you need.🤙
Taylor - add some sound absorbent material to the inside of the Box. That will reduce the intake whistle from echoing off the bare aluminum Box interior surfaces.
You could also add a cable adjustable butterfly valve/valves on the box to open it up like a dump valve. A big throttle body with a throttle cable attached to a slider up front would probably work
You could use some sound deadening on the inside of the box and I bet that would help. Also I think you should go ahead and fix the dents so that way once it’s sea decked and wrapped it will look like a new boat and be more satisfying I would imagine. Just my thoughts! Loving the content as usual!
Some sound deadening inside the enclosure along with some open cell foam would kill more noise. Then removing the lid would open it up and remove that layer of mlv and foam 👌
@Talyor - A little trick to transfer hard to reach holes. Use a strip of painters tape, and poke holes through the tape into the existing holes. Pull off the tape, and transfer to the box and tap your holes as close to center as possible. Gets it very close (and if your initial holes are small, can be very accurate for transferring.
I just realized that Taylor Ray is Adam Savage's Tested but for cars. Both have good vibes, great advice, working time lapses, long videos seeing the whole process of a build, lots of shop infrastructure
For the box, add two opposite sided baffles, air makes the flow no problem, but the sound wont. You can also line the box with the acoustic foam used in cars, as its very good at cutting out high-pitch sounds. Also, love the riding... up in Canada, we dont have everglades to shoot around on, looks like a blast!
So glad I found this new boating channel. My thought if that intake is point the bell at something to deaden the sound. Piece of ridged floormat, conveyor belting. Wrap that box in the kilmat too, probably doesn’t matter if it’s on the inside or the outside. That’s my two cents, tip included ✌🏽😎
Aiming the intake rearward most definitely makes it louder. If you want it quiet, eliminate/reduce/cancel standing waves in the engine compartment. Point the intake towards the killmat insulated deck cover.
It's all about sound absorption - Dynamat the hull sides and transom within the engine compartment. Cushions for the rear seats. Wrap the intake pipes. Any soft materials you can add will soak up sound. You can also look into Active Sound Management systems (Bose is one manufacturer) that put out opposite sound waves - Engine Harmonic Cancellation.
More DynaMat in the hold, but that is just for stopping panel vibration. If you add egg crate foam in the corners (sound concentration points), it will absorb the sound. Seal the cover like you did with the filter box.
You guys are frickin nuts……It’s one thing to do on asphalt but on water…… not my thing……never been much for boats…….. but will watch you guys every time you put up a video…….😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮⚓️⚓️🚤🚤⚓️⚓️🚤🚤⚓️⚓️🚤🚤⚓️⚓️🚤🚤
Put some sound deadner inside the box, that should quite it down some more. Also, if you could plumb the intake of the box to the outside that would help with cooler intake temps and the sound
that leads to some problems with water getting into the intake though, doing 360s and such leads to every part of the boat (except the interior for the most part) getting hit with a lot of water
@@wi1h not if you have a cap like the raincap on a boiler/gas heater exhaust. if you built it right the water would have to go upwards before getting into the intake
dude-man-bruv... please... don't ever stop showing your work.. boat fab.. car fab... house , grounds, or garage fab and bus fab!! love all of it.. thank you for allowing us to come along!! you have no idea how much i have learned about TIG from you and KSR's kevin... soon enough, i will have a hot metal glue gun! keep this UP!!
Taylor, put a hinge on the lid to the box. And a small 3-4" linear actuator to open and close it from the driverseat. You could eventually set automatic by throttle or rpm like the BMW exhaust, 😂.
Use an Exhaust cut of valve, one for open filter, one for closed filter box, with a push of a button. u have sound or no sound. Could be nice for the long trips with silence, and when u want to rip, push the button and the screaming begins!
Maybe add another larger air filter off the vband. Remove the intake air tube, add larger filter maybe with outer wear for the hell of it. also offers higher ground (self explanatory) Just a thought. Love the changes. Par for the course, Cutting up the cookie cutter..
Have you ever thought about hooking up a CO2 purge hooked up to the drive unit with a button on the helm so you can purge it.pneumaticly instead of having to use the manual one
Side note: I think the bell mouth should draw cold air from outside the engine cover. Right now, it's essentially an oven, only pulling in hot air. Consider this: a small room heats up faster than a big room, so the situation isn't the same as before.
Plasma tables have become so cheap and are so much more precise and efficient than cutting by hand that it is really down to the Taylors of this world to get the old hand saw out and start cutting sheets of aluminum for hours at a time.
The content recently had been amazing. The diversity has been awesome and I’ve really enjoyed watching you do things you enjoy. You seem less stressed doing these projects
I would think a rubber 90 going into the filter box instead of aluminum would be better. You could possibly put something like pre-filter material in the box intake tube. It also might be good to add a duck bill dust excluded to the bottom of the filter box to let any water that might get in there drain out.
Taylor! That larger filter is certain to help it breathe! Don’t have room in the box to mount a standard rectangular panel filter? Thinking that would be even more air flow!
As to a suggestion for something to quiet it down a bit more.I was actually going to say,try the old cheaters muffle method, steel wool and just pack it in.But that’s going to obviously rust.Try those 3M pads pressed together with bands and put those in there.I think they’re heat resistant and they’re easily replaced!
Add a baffle some where after the filter just like you see on stock air boxes. Just like an exhaust the sound waves will make there way in there reducing the noise!
Holler if you’d be down for a full marine mat turf job done! I have a buddy of mine in Springfield LA who’d do a killer job on your turf! Whatever patterns logos etc.
You should put a rear facing go pro to splice in shots of the guys behind you that was legit like a back road Togue run dont usually enjoy boat content but this was good
I would echo the comments about sound insulation but skip the heavy stuff like dynamat. That's good for panel resonance, but that's not the issue here. I would get some closed cell foam. Its water proof and way better at blocking high frequencies. Also, I'd suggest clocking the intake tube upwards. If you ever get lots of water in the back of the boat, it will stay dry. Watch the boosted boiz video where they melted the exhaust coupler, a situation like that with a downward facing intake = hydrolock.
Nice build, i don't look forward to tig welding thin alloy and i was gonna recommend nutsert foam sealed acrylic as a cover but your quick release lid worked a treat ! Good to see Alberto alive and well 🤙🏽
In the end the front will probably get dented again, but... feel you could get it out more, or if you wanted to get extreme cut it out lol, but if you got it a little closer fiberglass filler doesn't crack easily, same with a skim of bondo(only for finishing edges of fiberglass) then spotting putty(probs wouldn't matter with a wrap), i replaced the quarter on my cateye for my wife... to back into with her van lol no cracks in my body work lol big ass dent in the quarter tho! Hmu if you want me to paint your air box cover! I can Airbrush anything you want on it, the garage built logo would be sick, but i literally can do anything!

I was thinking the same thing.
I was thinking Dynamat the outside of the airbox might make a difference...
Some more of that Killmat that is inside the engine cover would probably help.
It'll help with compartment heat as well...I like this idea
Can’t lie I’m also invested in the lawn content for some reason
I’m personally here for it all. 🤷
Automatic like for jet boat content 👍🏻
Always cool to see Alberto in a video.
You could also add a cable adjustable butterfly valve/valves on the box to open it up like a dump valve. A big throttle body with a throttle cable attached to a slider up front would probably work
All that welding and you bolted the handle to the cover 🧐 😆
he's not good enough to weld dissimilar thicknesses of aluminum

Dyno mat the inside and the inside of the lid where the gasket doesn't touch. Golden.
Need to get some back seats in this rig. Love the jet boat content even more cause it’s obvious how much fun you’re having!
Its got two seats back there already, not really sure how useful they are but they are there haha
Some sound deadening inside the enclosure along with some open cell foam would kill more noise. Then removing the lid would open it up and remove that layer of mlv and foam 👌
You could install another set of pins to hold the door when not in use.
Def this

Why not use Kilmat in the airbox? The answer was right there on the open hatch. 👍
You could always put a 4” filter on the outside pipe which should quit it down or utilize sound deadener inside the engine compartment on the air box.
Nice thing about Florida, you got swamps that no one else has to play in.
Taylor you make me want to move to Florida! Ripping this looks hella fun! a few fishing rods on there would complete it for me👌
So glad I found this new boating channel. My thought if that intake is point the bell at something to deaden the sound. Piece of ridged floormat, conveyor belting. Wrap that box in the kilmat too, probably doesn’t matter if it’s on the inside or the outside. That’s my two cents, tip included ✌🏽😎
Okay so hear me out if u take and put some of the heat/sound deadener in the inside of the box to help it be even quieter
Great idea to present the build and ripping on water in the same video, good stuff!
I think just fixing that top rail dent would be plenty good enough I'm super excited for the wrap it'd be sick if it kinda matched the vette!
Cover on and elbow pointing front is best sound I recon 👍
Aiming the intake rearward most definitely makes it louder. If you want it quiet, eliminate/reduce/cancel standing waves in the engine compartment. Point the intake towards the killmat insulated deck cover.
Really impressed with how stable the footage is from the 360 camera
1 hour video 🙌🏻 todays a good day
Just finished the 3 and half hour podcast! now this!
Cant waite for more car build content, hope it's the Monty drag and drive.

You can try one of the pre filters over the K&N filter. Also helps repel water.
I would suggest putting rubber between the box and the boat frame where you bolted it in its hard mouned and is resonating the engine frequencies.
Nothing but respect for your passions but I'd rather see car stuff. Nothing but love bro.

for the dent the quick easy way would be cut the dent out and mold in a new sheet as u tack it , then finish weld and sand it
If you add foam to the inside of airbox it should quiet it down alittle more. Theoretically

Maybe do sound dampening on the under side of the bench/engine cover. Seems an easier option since you can take it off to do it.
Super cool River Touge!
If you would like it quiet you have to insulate the lid to the engine compartment with 1-2 inch of foam

If you installed a round 3 1/2 inch muffler, even a bullet muffler it would take out that high frequency. And meaning the muffler on the intake.

wrap the dent it will get more im sure nice long video after work was on point keep up the good work
You should get with Cleetus and them and go on the next Idaho trip with them! 💯🤙
Stick on FOAM would rock on the inside of the box. I use this stuff that is single side peel off and it comes in different thickness'.

even loose it is fine.
You could fix the dent but keep the bandaid decal on the wrap as an omage
thumb before watching, awesome timing was running dry on subs videos
Here for ya buddy!
This looks like so much fun.
Add a baffle some where after the filter just like you see on stock air boxes. Just like an exhaust the sound waves will make there way in there reducing the noise!
your air box now doubles as an oven u can put over a camp fire to heat dinner. v2 certainly looks nicer in the bay and way easier on my ears also

The turning of the box kills the high frequency noise, high frequencies are much more directional then low. Great build man I love this channel
