- History Channel’s Vikings has mainly revolved around the charismatic Ragnar Lothbrok and his ambitious sons, but one of the main plotlines of the first four seasons also involved a rivalry between Ragnar and his brother Rollo.
Rollo was played by actor Clive Standen, and even though his character found new life in season 4, Vikings fans didn’t get to see much of Rollo in the fifth season. Is the character of Rollo going to take a backseat again to the sons of Ragnar?
Standen recently cleared the air with Entertainment Tonight about why the series has not featured his character this season. Here’s why the actor who played Rollo on Vikings really left.

How would you like to see Rollo come back to the show?
I wouldn’t. The show has really fallen from grace, with plots shifting all over everywhere after Ragnar dies in S5. The portrayal of Ragnar’s sons in season 5 & 6 just isn’t the same show.
CHAD maybe so *but it’s still better written than the crud we are given on tv nowadays* including Hollywood films . That being said IVAR should have been cast as joker or Batman not the twilight guy
RAVEN STAR I see, so because it was a better smelling piece of cow dung then all the others they should continue to produce it? It’s production footprint was just like a lot of other popular shows made, with the first season being ruff and crude with limited episodes. Then the next couple seasons production becomes much better and the episodes double due to popularity. After that the show becomes watered down, characters added that don’t mature and no one cares about. Remember the show Lost? Look at The Walking Dead currently. Vikings followed the same path only the actors might be a bit prettier, and they all have or are trying to grow beards.
By season 5 & 6 so many original characters that made the show great are now dead, or running around in plot twists within that no one cares about. Alex Anderson who plays Ivar the boneless is a pretty face, but makes a terrible character within the show. Ivar was feared by all, vikings included, more so than Ragnar was. Instead Ivar is portrayed as a broken cripple with mental instabilities due to his condition and upbringing, which has made his character weak, predictable and boring to watch. All that said I will still watch the show to it’s end, but I’m glad it’s over. I purchased them all thru Apple TV. When I rewatch, it will be seasons 1-4. Seasons 5&6 is watered down drivel with pretty faces running around with swords trying to grow beards to be in character.
My neighbor gave me a plasma with their firestick( *I ain’t giving it back cus they forgot about it* ) so I’ve been binging VIKS ,cosby , ds9 etc . *You may be right about the quality of writing and 74 subplots but I didn’t see it ; it only confused me after floki got the cross* ivar to me showed he didn’t give a 🎶K as long as he overcame his problems ( sure he had barbacue In those few episodes but I didn’t see it as predictable) . *It does show me he was ruthless cus he used his brain vs brute power* . Sidebar please tell me you took the time to watch SEE on apple
RAVEN STAR See that’s with Jason Momoa? Haven’t watched that yet. True on Ivar he used his mental prowess rather than brute force. Guess that made me yawn and fall asleep missing half the episode thou. Another good watch is Spartacus was aired on Stars network originally.
I can tell you why I'm glad he left, every season 40% of the story arc was him betraying someone and then feeling bad about his betrayal. After four seasons I'm pretty sure everybody just got sick of seeing it.

Rollo is not Bjorn's father because Odin came to all of Ragnar's sons when he passed away and he came to Bjorn so he can't be Rollo's son.

The real Rollo was a far more fascinating legend than the show depicts. The show took extreme license with everything. Nothing was historically accurate. When it comes to Rollo, people need to forget about the show and go research him.
I have done a lot of research on him, I've always been interested in vikings and if I'm honest never watched the viking show because of how inaccurate it is. I was tempted, if I'm honest to watch Rollo as he is my 32 great grandfather, just to see how they portrayed him. But didn't bother as I knew I'd be disappointed.

Wow, that's cool. Rollo was the man. He single handedly changed the course of Europe's history with his founding of the Norman Dynasty. And you should still check out the show. It was good. You just have to put aside the historical inaccuracy thing. It's worth watching. 👊

His return was unnecessary and awful, but the moment he left was actually quite realistic due the fact that historically Rollo did actually leave Normandia to marry the daughter of the Paris landlord for land right after the vikings tried to occupy the Paris.

Rollo is going to have a cameo in Vikings Valhalla. In Vikings Valhalla we will meet his grandchild William the Conqueror and following him on his conquest to win over England.

there is nothing historical in this tv series. People should just enjoy it as simple entertainment.
The show is loosely based off of history, Rollo did become the duke of Normandy and his descendent William the Conqueror would later become the first Norman king of England.

From their armours or clothing whether it's the Vikings the French or the saxons or later on the slavs.

diviciacos celtil the show goes more for historical authenticity over historical fact and I honestly don’t mind that. It was historical fiction like the Assassins Creed series that drew me in to learn more about the history behind those games that I loved, so if Vikings can do that for other people then I say it’s a good tv show.

If you start enjoying the past then open the right books and you will get plenty of good history.

@Jason Mistretta Basically my point, the periods were run to quickly, more time & enrolment should have been given, dragged on longer. I always felt that Ragnar should have been given more time, he was killed off, way to soon.
Carlos Rey since this show is not 100% fictional like GoT, we cannot rewrite the history which is already happened. If its dragged for more seasons it will end up bad. Story plays a bigger role than any character in the show. Thats how it should be.

They took the liberty to change the show in many ways, w/the characters & the time frames. If you check this out, you will see that what I'm saying is true. There's a very good video that looper has out right now on the true history on the Viking characters that shows you this. But even if they continued they're plans, w/the outcome that it played out to, I only wish that they had dragged it out longer. Gave more time to the Era's, made the time frame's last longer. I would have wished that Ragnar hadn't arrived, to his demise, when he did. Take more time to tell the story. As it turned out When they killed Ragnar, the show died too, the ratings fell through the roof, the fans lost interest. The most interesting of heroes are the most flawed of human beings.
I think Rollo's story is more interesting than Ragnar's. They should do a spinoff that follows his family line through history.
To give you an idea of his significance: Rollo is the "32nd great grandfather" of the current Queen of England, Elizabeth II.

I believe Ragnar is Bjorns father but when people say he is bjorns father because Odin went to him is wrong odin came to him because Ragnar was a father to bjorn as an example In Game Of thrones not sure if you have seen it but Ned was not Jons father but he treated him as his own and his brothers and sisters saw him as their blood so in that situation Odin would have still gone to visit Jon if that makes sense

When did Lagatha ever sleep with Rollo? So dumb they added that into season 5. Season 5 was already 🗑 compared to the previous seasons.
It was actually something that was a small plot point very early in the show
KP-legacy-54 early in season 1, it shows Rollo had interest in her but she was never interested in him. Never did they lead the viewer to believe they ever slept together.
The very first episode of the entire series literally hints (if not outright confirms) that there was something between Rollo and Lagertha prior to her marrying Ragnar. It's pretty damn hard to miss.

Even though ragnar and rolo were 100 yrs apart in reality. Still bad call killing off ragnar and worse call giving excuses why rolo shouldnt pop up anymore. Two very dumb decisions. Say what you will about rolos part in the series. If written correctly rolo could've stood all on his own to keep ratings up. But since dumbness is very toxic I guess it took hold.
Rollo's grandson conquered England and his descendants shaped the British Isles and Europe. For some time, European monarchies controlled much of the world. Rollo won.

Unlike lagerta even though some the men at her age got old and weak and can't fight no more like ragnar. Lagerta stayed young and strong. She can even fight in the battlefield and killed those big strong men easily.
