    Federalism is the Nationalist Movement
Connecting the state which are like countries, under 1 banner vs the individual banner of your state

I like to think a Nationalist believes they have a duty to fellow members of their ethnic/racial/etc group. Whereas as a Patriot believe they have a duty to their fellow citizen and all those who choose to follow the same laws/system.

Technically You Are Right But Mostly Wrong. It Use To Be That Way, Which Is The Reason Why People Use To Not Be Able To Tell The Difference Between The Two.

Thank you for the insight. However, this is still very strange, when it comes to "patriotism." I see (going by your analysis) how patriotism works for a country like the u.s. or Canada or Australia. but at the same time, its bizarre wording to say "Patriotism," when americans are a matriarchal people as opposed to a Patriarchal people. Coupled with the idea that they refer to things like their homeland/country with a female persona, like ships/vehicles/weapons, etc. It would make more sense for americans and people of non-homogenous countries like it to call themselves Matriots. And I see how once homogenous countries or ethnically pure countries, can see the 2 concepts, Nationalism and Patriotism as one and the same.
