  • Several of you have been interested in an update on my Homemade Tin Pants. Here it is. Its now gotten too warm to keep wearing these. Lets take a look at them, then I'll touch up a few areas with new wax and set them aside until next winter. I do like these pants. They work great in cooler, wet weather.

    I coated a canvas jacket with the beeswax boot protection stuff you can get at the big box store 2 yrs ago and I love it. Currently doing a vest also.

      I've been considering doing a jacket myself.

    Great job! They're really only worn in properly when they can stand up by themselves! LOL!
    I've been caught out a few times in warmer weather, definitely not summer wear.

      They'll stand on their own when its colder. Not so well when its warmer. Lol.

      Thanks. I talked to him and he didn't use them much so they dont show much wear. Sorry I don't have much to report on the jeans.

    Your home made Tin Pants look great...just like a pair of filson....I'll definitely be using your recipe on a pair of my carhartt work pants...... I know what you are saying about not being able to wear them as the weather warms up! If I wear my filson's on a warm spring day I roast in them...haha but in the cold wet weather they are AWESOME.....Someone below asked about "How do you clean them" You NEVER wash them...when they get dirty you just brush them off.. The patina that tin cloth gets as they age is part of the "character ' of them! One of my Filson Tin Cloth jackets is 25+ years old....you should see its "patina" Tin Cloth just gets better with age! Considering the price of Filson, I will DEFINITELY be using your recipe pon my carhartt! Thank you for this update on your initial video.. Keep Healthy and Safe my friend!

      Thanks! I'm wearing them right now. They are amazing in the cold and wet weather. We're definitely getting some cold right now but I'm toasty warm.

    Maybe you should sew flannel liner in them.

      That would work awesome. I'll have to see how hard that would be. 👍

    • @brianfreland9065
      @brianfreland9065 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thought as well. A decent flannel liner would be awesome

    Hello Sir, from your experience with wax pant, could you say this material is heavy-rain-proof ? Thanks in advance

    I can do this with canvas Dickies work pants? Is the application best done on brand new pants as opposed to worn-in ones?

    Do you think this process would work on wool? I have an old wool flannel that is pretty hardy, and I’m curious if you could make waxed wool.

    How did the denim pants hold up?

    How did the Jeans hold up? I have a jacket I’m going to treat that is duck with denim sleeves. Wondering if the treatment held up with the denim pants you treated in the first vid.
    Thanks for the awesome videos!

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It worked pretty well. The jeans didn't feel as durable as the Duck fabric but the coating works well.

    It's winter season I'm thinking about doing this with a pair of carharrt wash duck pants flannel lined, do you think the flannel lining would bond with the wax and essentially make the flannel lining waxy as well?

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is something I've thought about. On my pair, the wax went all the way through but these are not lined. I think it might work if you applied the wax lighter than I did. Maybe you could apply it in a couple light coats so as not to soak through to the flannel. If you can get it to work, they would be awesome.

    Does the wax leave a mess on chairs when you sit down?

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It can if its not dried thoroughly. I didn't sit on anything for quite a while. Once its totally dried and worn in, I'll sit anywhere and it seems just fine.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Correct, You really don't. I wear them with thermals underneath so its really only the outside that gets dirty. I did lay them out over the summer and spray them down with the hose. Lol. It really just rinsed them off.
