  • These ten scouting tips will help you play the Moneyball Way, find first-team ready transfer bargains, and when applied well can power your club to huge profit and sporting success.
    Wonderkids are overrated. Why waste time, effort and money on them when there are far quicker routes to profit and success in Football Manager 2023?
    I follow Nine Rules of Moneyball in my FM23 Director of Football save:
    1. Promote youth ahead of transfers
    2. Only buy players aged 20-25, with decent data sample size
    3. Shop outside the usual markets - transfer listed and out of contract players, low reputation leagues
    4. Improve defence before attack
    5. Always improve the weakest area of the team first
    6. Don't buy strikers unless absolutely necessary
    7. Sell players at their peak age
    8. Always be scouting for replacements
    9. Sell any player if a club offers more than they are worth
    This video will show you the techniques I use to ensure any new players I bring in are always an upgrade on the current team.

    A couple of people have asked if I could share the views I'm using for the Director of Moneyball save. As you wish!
    www.mediafire.com/folder/kmvq...
    Here you'll find the filter I used to find my Assistant Managers, the Player Search view I'm using to ensure new signings match the club DNA, the Squad View that helps me to assess performance, and the Schedule view to show which formation we've lined up with in each match.
    Enjoy!

      @Games Tell Stories I always laughed when I saw the old one (not because of you) I sometimes get ads for dubious lawyers looking to sue car companies and they used the same office on green screen and I was like wow, says a lot about them that they're using your office 😂

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen the exact same one too and was livid. I never gave them permission to use my office 🤣

    Great tips, thanks!
    For shortlisted players I think there's an option for keeping scout reports up to date, have you ever used that? Doesn't sound like it would give much control over who/how often so haven't tried it, I just manually re-scout all shortlisted players over X days old...
    PS Daramy always blows up in my saves, hope you manage to get him!

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, when I shorlist players I make sure they're scouted constantly, but that's only when I'm really interested and trying to decide between two or three options for one position. Didn't get daramy sadly

      Is there a way to remove the players already previously scouted before doing this?

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, when setting up a recruitment focus you can untick the box that says 'include players from previous recruitment focuses' and that will make sure your scouts only look for new opportunities. If anyone shows up in the scouting centre you're not interested in you can also click the red cross to stop them showing up again. I normally do that with any 26+ year olds to reduce the clutter in my reports

    These are great tips but heavily weighted toward playing in England/UK. For those countries who don't need to worry about work permits (what, most of the rest of the world?), that's a concern that widens your talent pool immensely. Also, playing a player (even as a reserve) will boost his market value, often enough to grab the attention of the idiot clubs with deep pockets (PSG, Man City, Man United, Newcastle, etc). In my Schalke save, we are the new Bayern (3 titles in a row and counting) and I sell two players a season (minimum) to those clubs. My transfer budget is $315m with no sugar daddy, we make 200m+ per season in profit and by the end of this season, our bank balance should tick over a billion (currently at $957m). PSG paid me $106m for a midfielder (Fabian Rieder) that currently sits in their B team. I bought him from Young Boys for $22m. This was AFTER the spent $261m on Frenkie de Jong (FFP is a joke). This happens every season to some degree. I love two footed players at the back and on the wings since I like to sow chaos in opposing defenses by having them switch sides. My IWs are Andreas Schjelderup(L) and Ritsu Doan(R). I've been turning down $90m+ offers from the idiot clubs for two seasons now. Andy cost me $8.75m and Doan was $8.5m. Now I'm concerned though because an actual intelligent team is interested in Doan: Real Madrid. Moneyball is relatively easy outside of England (where every player is overvalued).

    Hey Kirk,
    Great advice but I started unemployed and got a job in lower league in wales… got promoted but with the wage constraints and being semi-pro even your plan didn’t work

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว

      When semi pro the biggest advice I can give is bring in as many triallists as you can all the time! Absolute gold to be found that way

    • @Howie-ei7he
      @Howie-ei7he ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a semi-pro club, I would avoid all costs that are not necessary. No own youth, no own 2nd team and no staff for both areas. Do not scout players, set the scout budget to zero, offer trial training for 2 weeks, so that the characteristics can be found out. If you have one or two scouts, they should generate team reports of bigger clubs 1 to 2 levels above you. There you will get one or the other hint which player you can loan.

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree completely with almost all of that! The only difference for me would be not going down the loan route so I'm building up my own players. Getting any kind of transfer fee at that level can be massive so I try to prioritise my own signings instead to increase their value wherever possible. Well worth scouting amateur or out of contract players in the divisions around you though.

      Hey Kirk, great video and loving series in general! Do you have any tips on getting rid of unwanted players?

    • @gamestellstories
      @gamestellstories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It doesn't work every time but as I'm focusing on finances I try to at least get a player's wages off the books by sending them out on loan if no one wants to buy them. There comes a point when saving on their wages is better than getting a transfer fee for them as well, so if someone is running down their contract and not playing i'll sometimes offer them out for free. That's the least ideal option though given i want to maximise their value!

    When I try to use the player search view it says "This view in file ..... is not valid for the current panel" what should I do?

    • @gamestellstories

      I might have mislabelled that, sorry! Should work in the scouted players view

    My scouts are useless, I just search stick attributes I like for that position then scout them
