Thank you for helping make sense of my dads awards. I found an old box with my dad’s air medal. It was awarded to him seven or more times. He was a B26 pilot and flew 44 missions over Germany from Belgium during WWII. He was in the 9th Air Force 344th BG 497th. I have his uniforms with the ribbons on them and I guess he was sent the Air medal after the war. He never talked much about it but recently I have been able to piece together his history through a box of letters he sent home and military records I have run across cleaning out my parents old house. Of the things he did tell me the letters were in much greater detail. Some were really hard to read due to difficult situations. He was 20 when the war ended.

Fantastic! This is beautifully done. My father served in the SWPA. As a bombardier/navigator he would have loved this presentation. Thank you!

I'm here because my grandfather served. He never really talked about it though. He passed away almost 4 years ago and I acquired a bag of his medal ribbons and I don't know how to display them. I don't think he ever actually got the medals.

My great grandfather was in the 8th AirForce and was in stalag 4. I have his display case that has his patches, medals and his stalag 4 tags as well as a piece of his crashed b17. If you’d like a picture I can send it to you.

How would one display the devices on the ETO service metal who served in 10 campaigns and participated in 5 amphibious assaults?

good question, with three devices. One arrowhead on the right hand side of the ribbon and two silver campaign stars to the right of the bronze arrowhead. Only one arrowhead is allowed regardless of the number of an assault landing. Personally, I would’ve painted my bronze arrow head silver if I had made 5 assault landings.

How do Americans hand out so many medals for a single war? My grandpa fought in an European army for over 3 years but 'only' got one medal, the one every WW2 vet got, wherever they may have served. No extra medals and ribbons for 'good conduct' (aren't all soldiers ought to show good conduct, why hand out medals for that?), serving a particular campaign etc.

Why did the uniform have Enlisted Infantry Discs instead of Army Air Force Discs?
