My dad was in the Red Diamond division I have his cib .
My father got one of his medals for being in combat in the Korean War, and his second medal was for serving in the Vietnam War
I think if they made the current covers black instead of white, that would be as cool as it gets
Awesome video thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Knock off that little snicker about the Merchant Marines alot of them sacrificed there lives!!,Show some respect!!
My father served with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in Korea and participated in both Combat jumps of the war. In addition, he was awarded a Naval Presidential Unit Citation for participation in the Inchon landing. His KSM has 4 bronze stars and the Arrowhead device. My question is whether he was/is eligible for more than one Arrowhead device?
Proud of my GWOTEM
How about a service medal for Cambodia? For which i served for almost a year. When the politicans moved the border for political reasons to tell the pople back home we were not there.do not remember ever getting a good conduct medal, but who cares! We all fought but never said we did In combat for i flew as a door gunner as well as my regular duties as secret tactical communications from Cambodia to Vietnam. Not to mention patrol operations . Guess being behind enemy lines does not count. But like i said i only would like recognition for Cambodia for the public was lied to. Have ben finger printed over 200 times wish they would just inserted a chip in me to prove who i am. Then they try to take away my gun rights and do not say why, just that they made a mistake but still had to get finger printed because of security clearances. What next? I have proven myself in war and at home can they make the same claim?
My grandfather was in K company 3rd battalion, 60th Infantry from Oct44-Feb45, he was assigned as a 30 Cal ammo bearer and was wounded in the battle of the bulge. I requested his dd214 from St. Louis but was informed those records were destroyed in 1970’s fire. They were able to give me a copy of his final pay voucher and I was able to piece together a rough time line of where he was stationed.
hope this video help, you honor his service.
Got my wings in 1994 at Benning. Got to meet a WW2 vet with a Glider wing badge. Was stationed 1/2 mile from Airborne school. Spend lot of time drinking beers in the airplanes on ground week. At 49. I wear my Airborne wings on my work veterans jacket…
You're part of a long lineage of paratroopers.
You missed Cavalry Spurs & Acorns
I did, can you fill me in?
They give away medals not that are not even earned. Glad to hear they are at least stopping one of them.
Aw, come on, NOBODY puts a device on the Defense Medal, not 1 person I know has ever put a star or oak leaf on their ribbon! After my 3d GCM I quit putting more on. I got a star on my Iraq campaign, but that’s 1991 & 2005-06. My wife could have 4 stars or an oak leaf, but NOBODY does it. She has leaves on her Commendations. I/we have numerals on our NCO Ribbons. I just have gold spurs & Stetson, no CIB or the new thing CAB. She doesn’t have the CMB as a Nurse LT. My wife was in Panama, when it kicked off; I was still in HS. I got the Valorous Unit Citation at 73 Easting.
The music is TOO loud to hear the speaker.
the jump was operation junction city .
So someone explain this to me please. Those of us who were awarded this and the gwot service medal orginally. Though its on our dd214 or if things need to be updated bc you were supposed to recieve it. Does that mean you can never get another one or have ur records updated to show award if its no nlonger being awarded. Im seriously confused. Ive been out since 2001. Been trying to get my medals n shit to give to my kids since my health is going down hill. Thanks for the help, airborne!
I was in the second armored division, and the third armored division,
All four decorations, one ribbon and one badge for a year of combat service, excluding devices, wounds, and bravery awards! And I always assumed it was the Russians who splattered themselves with medals! The sheer number of his/her decorations would probably cause my eyes to hurt if someone served longer.
Blue is for the oceans I'll never cross. Red is for the blood I'll never shed, white is for the bandages I'll never wear, and yellow is the reason why .
Yup, Gedunk it may be, BUT I am PROUD to wear it upon my chest! I was the Gig Engineer on the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63. The CO of the Shitty Kitty said to me, " Sailor, I will NOT have a crew member on MY GIG that does not have a medal on his chest!" Navy = Never Again Volunteer Yourself. But I would go again in a heartbeat...God Bless America!
My father served with Company L, 3rd Battalion, US 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division from August 1950 until July 1951. He originally trained with the 14th Infantry Regiment, was in the Reserves when he was called back up. When he got to Korea the 14th Infantry was still back in the States so he was plugged in where he was most needed.
Great tips.
I’m glad you found them useful.
When I was in Army basic training in 1970 there were some drafted guys from the country side from different states. Well these guys would show off their marksmanship at the range. I mentioned to one guy that the guys who shoot the best are going to be sent to Vietnam and boy did his miss quite a few targets after that. 😂
It took me over 40 years plus to receive mine.
I was in the Navy and in boot camp we called it the Gedunk ribbon.
You can stop with the background music. We want to hear the person talk and not the music.
Operation Earnest Will CVN-70 WESTPAC 88
Should have left it . Another dumb move.
STOP THE MUSIC........ IT DETRACTS FROM YOUR MESSAGE.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we on board uss forrestal received ours in 1981 in support of the 800 marines ashore beirut lebanon
I got two bronze service stars on that...another stupid medal
All of these medals and $5.00 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I've got a bunch of them from the last century. When you no longer wear the uniform, or retired, they mean nothing. Nobody cares. I wouldn't bother to waste my money on a shadow box for display. We had a retired First Sargeant move in down the street. He commenced to put a plywood 1SG stripes, Drill Sargeant Badge, Airborne Wings and a host of unit insignias on his porch railings. After a spell, they all came down. I think the Mrs had a say in the matter.
Damn, People were given these for standing a Fire Watch! I had to go to war to get one with 2 Bronze Stars!😢
U S Army Fort Jackson SC 1971 was issued a Wonder Badge/ NDSM after completion of basic, we wondered what it was and why we got it.
I get to wear 2 of them.
I couldn’t believe they were just handing it out like a sea bag item🥴 They use to only be awarded during War time, I have two🇺🇸 USN Retired 1973-1996
I was there! Twice! And the liberation of Kuwait. OIF , contracted in Afghanistan.
USMC 68-69 TET NDR GCM NUC NUM VSR VCR ETC ....long time ago
Wonder if you could explain the Navy diver pins / scuba bubble?
They're a great subject for a video!
The Army cut back on awarding the ARCOM from 1975-1981. They then brought about the Army Achievement Medal and handed them out like candy. Guys that had been previously awarded ARCOM's for Valor and Merit, soon received AAM's as PCS award. The same award a PFC would get for soldier of the month. What a slap in the face! With the start of the Gulf War, the awards began to flow again. Saw a lot of Bronze Stars, and some downgrades to ARCOM's with V Devices. Hadn't seen that since Vietnam. I retired shortly after that. Have no idea what goes on today.
I am fairly sure to qualify for educational benefits under the GI Bill, you had to receive the National Defense Service Medal (back in 68 anyway). Is this still the case? Sure hope they are advising the folks entering the military if has changed.
Fire watch ribbon..that's what we called it in the Marines
I was awarded the Navy Expert Rifle medal in 1967. There was no notice given of wearing the silver E on the medal at that time. And, at the time there was no award for sharpshooter or marksman. When was the E clasp instituted? I served in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees.
The E and S devices were established on 14 Oct. 1969. So your award was before the E device...of course it is authorized on your ribbon now.
I got two of them Vietnam era, and Persian Gulf conflict !!
1990 Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Southwest Asia Service Medal 2x Combat Action Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Sea Service Deployment award, Good Conduct Medal USN Battle E ribbon
And, Navy Expededitionary Medal and, Humanitarian Medal
the global war on terrorism expeditionary medal not the armed forces expeditionary medal
My Grandfather served in the 3rd Division "Rock of the Marne" Carried German metal in side of him, until his death in 1999.
I was active duty Marines 1996 to 2000. No national defense service ribbon in my tiny rack. Overseas service deployment, NAM, and good conduct.
The National Defense Service Medal was not authorized for active duty from 1991 to 2001.
@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 I must have just missed the cutoff, I served in the USN from 88-92. I have one and it's on my DD-214 because I was deployed for Desert Shield/Storm and other operations. I wore it twice, once for a Change of Command and for my grandfathers funeral when I wore full dress blues. Well maybe a couple more times for an inspection or two, but that's it.
I have two.
Where did you find a shirt like that? I need one.
the shirt is a Willis and geiger hunting shirt from my days of hunting in Africa. I think it may be 25 years old. Unfortunately the company has gone out of business. I think Orvis may make something fairly close.
