I was laughing when the steering knob came off.... It is interesting how this things decide to brake when we are on the water.... I own a pedal kayak, I've already had the propeller broken ( not a big issue, it works fine with only 1 wing), another day Iv'e lost a pedal from the pedal drive unit.... it came off without any notice, just jumped in the water.... I got my rudder destroyed by a rock.... Experience made me carry some wire, screws, spare parts, and I have a few meters of duct tape ready to use rolled on my paddle. Your setup is crazy man, your filming and editing are fantastic, I like when you put some details written in the video, bloody good.
Yeah it doesn't always fo plan! Still heaps of fun though. The good thing about the tandem is that you have two steering points, so I wasn't that worried about it.
It's not a bad idea. The only thing with me is that I move around so much and already have lines and ropes everywhere... you get to a point where you are creating more of a hazard than a help by adding another rope. I feel safe with my 3 ways of communication that I have attached to me. I have a friend who used to sail and fish off a Hobie Adventure Island by himself around the remote islands of Fiji.. if something went wrong out there, he was in serious trouble!
Really cool footage of the wahoo mate , unlucky you didn’t land it , and bummer about the steering , I’ve had a few issues with mine too but no broken handle , well done on improvising .
Cheers mate, yeah I was devo'd for days after that! Just makes me more determined to go out and get one again now though! Hopefully tomorrow will be the day...
great video, the quality of your footage is awesome. Would love it if you could do a walkthrough of your diff cameras/mounts at some stage and how you operate/charge everything :) It must be very busy fishing, sailing, stopping, keeping track of all the gear! haha. Your trip back in that swell was a bit hair-raising to watch, especially with the steering knob! I was thinking of putting a paracord loop through each side of the rudder left and right so if anything broke I can just tug on a string on a handle or something both left and right to operate the steering. I also steer only from the back seat of my TI, if I'm in the front then my motor isn't deep enough to work. Keep up the vids, really awesome stuff!
Cheers Damian! Somehow I missed your comment.. I've been meaning to do a walk through of my mods and setup. Just haven't got around to it. There is definitely alot going on with fishing and sailing all at once. But its so much fun! Thanks for your support!
Cheers! I made the deck out of marine ply and its secured with tie down straps at the back and bungee cords at the front. It serves as a deck and storage for tackle boxes etc. I'm really happy with it!
Sorry the big Wahoo did not want to dance! I had a similar tiller handle failure. See post on Hobie forum here: www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=64876&p=311489&hilit=tiller#p311489 and a few more pictures on flickr here: www.flickr.com/photos/wind-watcher/albums/72157719089772667 As I sail frequently in saltwater.... I have decided to replace the tiller screw (stainless steel) every year (both front and rear seats). Question - what camera do you use for the view of the fish hook underwater?
Great video man! love it! Personally I'm always leashed to my kayak, even sail down, the current could be faster than my swimming :)
Another great vid, well done!
Cheers Matt!
Yeah buddy! Living the dream. That’s good stuff. Someday...
Do it as soon as possible!
Thanks you for that last angle of you loading the ute! Gave me a good idea.

Awesome. Just beautiful. A bit of a malfunction but that happens I guess.

I agree about falling off and I've thought of leashing myself to my Hobie Revolution 13 and might start doing that

thanks for making these videos, i recently bought a mirage TI and i like to take notes on your setup!
Hey, you are welcome! Thanks for watching 😄
Enjoy your TI, they are great fun!

This guy deserves subs
Thanks Jakes Bakes! I just subbed you back for that comment!
Thanks!
Sick footage bro ! Unlucky not to have one in the bag
How it didn't hook up is a mystery hey.. just makes me more determined to get out again and get one!
Nice video. May I know what’s the deck cover piece you are using for the front seat?
Cheers!

May i request a picture or video for that storage?
Hi Nathan, where would you attach a wind direction flag to a Adventure Island?

Can you give an overview of the custom deck you made for it?
Im planning on doing a mod video soon. So watch out for that!
spewingggggg!!!!!
So upsetting. 😪
could have taken screw from front tiller control...doh!
just do it!
steer with paddle
With all of the fancy equipment you could of just tied yourself to the kayak.
haha yeah I've considered that, but it would be annoying. I like to be able to move around freely..
