    I live 5 hours from any real water, but getting on one of these is now officially on my bucket list.

      I live in Maryland, 30 minutes away from the water and the comments I have seen make me think that I maybe take our water access for granted....

    Thank you for that VERY detailed explanation of how to assemble the AI & TI! I especially like how you didn't skip over or fast-forward through any important details.

    Great boats and a very good video. My only complaint with the Adventure / Tandem Island series are the break away bolts used on the struts. Like many other owners, after suffering failure over time from general use I upgraded mine to stainless and never looked back. HOBIE purposely uses the breakaway bolts for novices which of course helps to avoid damage to the AMAS during out of control hard dock or beach landings. The problem is that the bolts eventually do fail and many of us have taken our AI / TI into rough seas and under such conditions I can almost guarantee you that the breakaway bolts will give out and its usually at a critical / dangerous time. Flipping over in rough seas / shark infested waters is NOT desirable!!!!! HOBIE should include a bag with two stainless bolts, washers and nuts with a note explaining the use of the breakaway bolts with the advantages and disadvantages of them giving experienced users the option to upgrade to stainless with experience. Again, this is NOT a major criticism but an important one that should NOT be taken lightly. If you do not believe me, flip an AI or TI in bad conditions and watch how quickly your possessions sink to the ocean floor while everything else floats away while you panic and struggle to gain the composure to get everything back under control. For what it is worth, I have been sailing for over 45 years and have just a little bit of experience and if you are older like many AI / TI owners are, you do not want to have a heart attack pulling yourself back onboard especially if you are past your prime. Other than that. I think the invention of the AI / TI series is one of the best ideas that Hobie ever came up with and I'm sure that Hobie Alter looks down upon them with many smiles!!!!

      Please 🙏🏼 don’t go out in shark infested waters during inclement weather and the bolts will be safe & sound .

      Bought my tandem island in 2015 and have never had a problem. (if you take out in the surf then things can break!)

    Hey! I just got my new TI!!!! ...I have a question.... Is there any reason to NOT glue the batten caps to the ends of the battens? I already lost one off the main 3/8" batten, (I think it got snagged as I was taking the sail out of it's storage bag) and it seems like just gluing them on would be an easy way to prevent that from happening ever again.... Unless there's a reason not to.

      @TomKirkman1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battens need to be free to rotate on the batten ends. Don't glue them.

    SuperB video thank you so much. Picking up my 2016 Papaya Hobie Adventure Island Tomorrow, got it from Fogh Marine. my question is, I do require a trailer and was curious where to get it here in Toronto, Ontario. Canada???

    • @HobieOfficial
      @HobieOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would start by asking Fogh Marine about a trailer. Most dealers have some type of connection with a somewhat local trailer manufacture. Any trailer would make transporting a Hobie Island very easy, much less breakdown would be required compared to most forms of roof racking. Different vehicles are capable of roof racking different weights. You have options for sure! Here in California any and all vehicles with trailers are subject to a slower maximum speed limit while driving on the highway/expressway. Some areas have tolls that can change more when trailering. Your local dealer would be the best to ask about local regulations of trailer brand/style options.

    Hi... I find the tiller difficult to use. In heavy winds, my AI wants to go right into the wind and it takes all the strength my wrist has, to keep the boat off the wind- especially on the port tack. Any ideas?

      Have you locked down the rudder? Weather helm is much worse if it has partly raised.

    Hello, I'm wondering: is possible to paddle while the stabilizers are folded? Thank you.

    • @HobieOfficial
      @HobieOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When the stabilizer or Ama's (or outriggers) are folded you can paddle but the total hull width will be very wide and unless you have a longer paddle than what ships with the boat you'll likely not be comfortable for very long. You can paddle from the back seat with the stabilizers folded out, for the front you can paddle but not a complete stroke.

    Hi guys have a 2017 tandem island and on a trip yesterday it took a fair amount of water into the hull. I would estimate 3-5L. Any ideas where I could start checking to trouble shoot this? I've had it out in the ocean on at least 4 trips and have only ever taken very small amounts. Cheers

    • @HobieOfficial
      @HobieOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double check the o-ring on the drain plug in the back/bottom of the hull, thats the only place to look if water is entering in flat water conditions. If it's windy and you're taking waves/splashing then the hatches become a place to look, the large front hatch and the circular hatches all have gaskets that can become cracked/cut or the circular hatches can get clogged with sand.

      We recommend a dolly for the Island series:
      80046200 AI/TI Dolly with Beach Wheels (best for soft sand)
      80046100 AI/TI Dolly with Tuff Tires (best for solid or semi-soft/gravel surfaces)

    Do they ship to Belgium? I want one really bad.
    How much are they, they only dealer I can find in my "area" sells for just over 6000 euros, does that sound about right?
    Also are they qualified for long expeditions on open sea? Anyone?

      6150 for the Hobie Mirage Adventure Island Kayak, not Tandem?

      Hobie products are sold in Belgium via our fine retailers! These products have been used for long expeditions and open sea conditions as well but please take precautions to know you craft, weather and water patterns before venturing out too far.

    Why are you building heavy Hobie AI in recent years? Hobie 2011 weighed less than 30 kilos, you can handle alone, now you can have a carriage or two people to get it on your car when you're in Hull Weight: 86.5 lbs. / 39.24
