Really relaxing vid. I too am looking at onboard camping options for a future long distance river explore. Your solid deck is a great idea to keep gear organized and make walking to the bow an easy process. I’m thinking of a side opening, self supporting swag on a light weight platform on the outrigger beams. The swag could be fixed to platform and collapsed when moving, then simply install the centre (ridge) support when ready to sleep. Platform could be made of a foam-fiberglass composite for excellent weight to strength ratio. Food for thought 🤔
Love the mods to the TI mate. You've turned it into an even better fishing platform. That hammock looked the part as well. I don't think by back would thank me for sleeping in it though. But it's certainly a neat bit of kit. Great camera and editing work btw. Very professional. Keep 'em coming. Cheers
Thanks Roger. Yeah, I am really pleased with the deck. The hammock is surprisingly comfortable and relatively flat for a hammock. I slept like a log that night!
Those whiting are so funny, I'm always amazed at how the small ones are so aggressive in their feeding! You got some really cool footage! Cheers for sharing it well done!
Thanks for watching! Yeah the whiting were smashing the beach worm. I was amazed at how many there were down there.. the underwater camera always gets cool footage.
Cheers Bryan! I love seeing the videos of other people enjoying their Hobie's all around the world.. Bandicoots are pretty harmless, we also get big goannas and wild bush turkeys raiding our camps here 😆 Raccoons would be next level though!
@@hooked_on_adventure no poisonous snakes? I had a friend in AUS once who pulled a camping trailer that kept their tent way off the ground to help avoid killer bugs, frogs, snakes and other nasty fauna.
Love hammock camping been doing it a few years now on my motorcycle trips. I don't wake up with a sore back and shoulders! I have a DD Super light jungle which can be used as a swag as well but have only slept on the ground twice in 4 years. It is even more comfortable with a hiking air mattress and also keeps the draft off your back. Hennessy and Warbonnet blackbird were the other 2 hammocks I considered.
@@Pi-md4cg . My greatest fear is falling off and not being able to get back to the kayak... wind and currents would separate you very quickly. But I mitigate that risk by wearing a life jacket ( when I am at sea) and I have a mobile phone with me, a VHF radio and a PLB (personal locating beacon) all on my life jacket. The risk is part of the fun and adventure!
I used a narca 5 and a 16’ canoe to make a trimaran - put some plank decking so I can stand on out riggers. Can paddle or electric motor - $1300 in all Love you shots, good deck...
Really like the deck you put in, I'm looking at ways to create a platform so I can pitch a tent on the TI and this has given me some inspiration. Also great how you step through a lot of your gear/setup, thanks for that - appreciate it! Would be great to see a walkthrough video at some stage ! :) Top effort!
Thanks Damian! I have been thinking of doing a setup video as the TI gets lots of interest. I have given some thought to sleeping on board and tried to rig up the hammock using some supports that I made. But I had to brace it using straps around the hull and my weight on the hammock started to bend the plastic badly so I abandoned that idea. A tent would be cool, but you'd need a decent platform... let me know what you come up with!
A tip for sleeping in hammocks especially asymmetrical hammocks. You should be laying on the diagonal. You will be much flatter. Awesome video. I definitely see an Adventure Island in my near future!
Kayak camping with my Hennessy hammock is something I've talked about for years, and the Hobie Tandem Island is my dream kayak... This looks so fun, well done with the footage as well
Thanks! Camping with a hammock makes so much sense. You should follow your dream and get a TI! They are the best! I'm almost finished my next video, so look out for that soon 😁
Enjoyed your video, even though I’m not keen on fishing. Hobie make great products. We have taken our TI out a few times now at Garden Island Dolphin Sanctuary (Adl) and it is a lot of fun. Trampolines are great for the dog.
Can you share any plans for the deck you built for you Hobie? Great videos btw. Loved that onewith the rogue wave, thatcould have been a disaster but you fared quite well.
It's cool hey. We just call them by different names! Except for Wahoo, only the Hawaiians call them something different.. they call them Ono which means 'good to eat' 🐟🐟
I'll be doing a trip down that way next month for croctober. ;) It's a great spot, but i always take buckets of bushmans! Love the sailing hobie, a TI is definitely the next yak in my stable once i have the room for it, with the spinnaker. Mmmm.
Priceless! Loved this. I'm from Suffolk Park near Byron and am picking up an Adventure Island from Forster in a few weeks time. I have an awesome 1kg ultra light hiking tent and I think it will fit on one of the tramps pretty easily! I was eagerly waiting on your review of your hammock sleep as I've never slept in one and I prefer to be flat. You seemed to give it the thumbs up! Where did you film this pls? Thanks Deb
Howdy! I am over near nimbin way, but spend a lot of time down at Bruns. Had any great adventures lately? I just got an adventure Is, thinking about some good trips....
Great to see another hobie kayak channel , nice neat set up to mate , have subbed and look forward to more vids mate , I’m up in Qld if you ever wanna tag along for a trip :)

@@CDTJosh I'm going to 1770 at the end of this month with a few other guys all with Hobie Adventure Island or Tandem Islands 👍 Hopefully the weather behaves and we can get stuck into some food fish!
Mate, your vids are awesome. Obviously put a lot of thought and planning into the shots and editing. Hot tip re: the hammocks - hammocks are supposed to be slept in width-wise...
Hi. I have the AI in the same colour and love it. Dream of doing an overnight camp like you have. What are the brand and model of rod holders on the outrigger arms? I am thinking to use something like this to hold a big transducer in the water. They say Lorance ready but you can only fit the little crap transducer in the flush mount, the bigger cover they sell is going to get ripped off when you put it on a trailer. Have you looked into any of these transducer issues
Cheers! This was my first and so far only camping trip on my Tandem Island. Looking forward to doing more this year, just need to stop working so much!
Yes it is a tandem. However, I have built a wooden deck that covers the front seat. It serves as a storage area and a stable place to stand, but comes off by releasing a few straps.
Really relaxing vid.

The underwater footage is an A+ touch. Great job
