I bought a Steam Deck in February. I sold my Switch one month after, and the Deck has me contemplating selling my XBOX SX to help with building a PC.
Even though the Steam Deck isn't perfect, the fact it made handheld PC's a mainstream thing, you see competitors like the ROG Ally coming out among others that are making small handheld PC's a really viable option for gamers. Instead of focusing on new/newer games that are mostly left for people with desktops and laptops, Valve with the Deck and others like Asus with the ROG Ally are creating affordable PC gaming that focuses on older titles and indies. On top of that you have emulation and game modding which is harder on a handheld device but still manageable. The fact you have to compare the Steam Deck and the Switch is a brain fart itself.

I've had my Steam Deck for 2 months now. I literally only use my Switch for Smash at this point. But they're both good.
And they're not really that comparable. They advertise to two different groups of gamers.

Tears of the Kingdom is an amazing game but Nintendo really needs to stop handicapping themselves with garbage hardware. I'm definitely playing this through emulation for future playthroughs. Also I wont be surprised if the next Switch wont be as powerful as the Steam Deck leading to yet another 7 years of Leapster hardware.
Yeah but its more meant for people who dont care about preofrmance and just want to play fun games at the minumum preformance.
Did they say "limit battery output with third party software?" My dude, that is literally built into the operating system. Have they even used the product they are talking about?
I believe theyre were talking about those pointless guides on how to download software, change bios configuration and undervolt to gain like 10 extra minutes of battery life = not worth the risk
I mostly use my PC and Switch for my gaming hook for the past 6 months or so, but I have to agree with Joe. This shit is starting to get outta hand
I love my Switch, but ain't no way in hell it can beat the Steam Deck in........really, any substantial way. (If I had to give the Switch anything, maaaaaaybe a lower cost to enter that world? That's about it honestly)
The switch has a big advantage of=ver the steam deck: physical games.
I have had a Switch since launch (passed that one on to my wife so she would have her own for Animal Crossing/Diablo, then sold my V2 and got an OLED last year) and a Steam Deck since last April. I love both. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but in general the Steam Deck is far more capable and if I had known it was coming more in advance, I likely would not have bought so many Switch ports.
Regardless, I love both and play both. Steam Deck, like Switch before it (but better) has been excellent for working through more games in my backlog...and adding more to it.
One big advantage of the switch is that you can buy physical games. This shouldn't be an argument, you're literally wasting money by buying digital games.
@@DioBrando-qr6ye Physical games are a big part of why I have bought certain games on Switch instead of PC or otherwise. That being said, sometimes the Switch performance leads me to buy the game again on PC.
I got the Steam Deck as a way to transition to PC gaming so I don't get why people say stick with consoles if your not a PC gamer, the Steam Deck is a great way to transition.
Nintendo and Consumer Friendly are two things you will never see.
Got my Steam about 2 months ago now and i absolutely love it! It's more capable than you'd think! The main thing holding it back is the lack of official linux support from big game studios. A big example, and one that bothers me personally especially is ubisoft.. I'll start with the least bad. Newer Ubisoft games such as Far Cry New dawn runs great on it, Medium or high graphics with locked 45 fps and it runs beautifully! However there is this annoying box in the screen saying your GPU Drivers are outdated, and it just can not be removed! It won't go away! I'm reminding you, it runs beautifully, but this annoying pop up is just in the way!!!! Another thing i just absolutely hate about Ubisoft Connect is that it keeps forcing you to log in over and over again, on a normal PC this is less of an issue because you have a keyboard and mouse at all times, but on a handheld this is a major issue because IT DOESNT HAVE A PHYSICAL KEYBOARD OR MOUSE! It's an extreme inconvenience to the point it becomes an absolute deal-breaker. Now comes something that bothers me the most. I thought hey how about i play Assassins Creed Unity or other older AC games on it, these beautiful big amazing story games from a while ago should run amazingly on this device! Imagine my extreme disappointment when i found out that after pressing play on AC Unity it did not boot the game bot this old outdated version of Uplay, did not connect to the servers at all! I know there are work arounds, but you can't with a straight face tell me i should be doing all these janky work-arounds that will likely break with a new update, just because the gaming studio behind it is such an incompetent, greedy piece of shit of a corporation! So yeah i've voiced my frustration, maybe i might be exaggerating in the eyes of some of you, but as someone who is artificially blocked from re-experiencing some of my favorite nostalgic games, i'm very annoyed at Ubisoft... The Steam Deck has made by stance in being anti-third party launcher absolute. I'M ALREADY ON F*CKING STEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES GIVE ME EA APP UBISOT CONNECT AND EVERYTHING ELSE WHEN IM ALREADY ON F$$$$$$$CKING STEAM YOU PIECE OF TRASH!
If only we could get a handheld the size of a switch lite but all the features of a steam deck with better battery life.

We can appreciate several platforms for their positives and negatives but we should be also aware of the objective facts and subjective opinions. Regular Nintendo fans know that and Nintendrones in general need a reality check.

It’s the watchmojo situation but worse because unlike watchmojo they don’t just twist the truth they flat out lie and a prime example is with them saying that you need to use “third party tools” to tweak the steam decks power draw which I can say is a complete lie because I’ve been using the deck consistently for about 5 months now.

In my opinion the next Switch should be at a similar level to the Steam Deck if not better. But it won't because Nintendon't listen to their customers.

I can’t wait for the ROG ally it’s everything I’ve been waiting and I can’t wait to finally leave the console after years of a Xbox One s and a switch getting a pc that is portable and i can connect it to my tv with incredibly graphics and game library will be incredible refreshing

Value got me steam sales will have you recuperating the extra cost over the switch alone forget about steam keys sites ridiculous take and as for it complimenting my pc that’s fair but it’s almost replaced my pc as I put way more hours on my deck then my pc now just because of convenience
Honestly im surprised the Switch is still going. The steam deck is not perfect though. Im considering the rog ally but Asus have had some bad press recently.

Yeah and someone who's used both the switch and the steam deck the steam deck has a switch beat by a mile there is so much more the steam deck can do sure the storage aint shit on the 64 GB one It eats through that like it ain't nothing but far as it goes The steam Deck can do so much more Play so many more games games I really wanted on the switch. The switch is only good for certain games while the steam deck can play so much more. And a better graphics at a higher frame rate. One of the best purchases I've ever made was my 64 GB steam deck and my one terabyte micro SD card.
While I love my Steam Deck, absolutely love it, I won't ditch my Nintendo Switch for it. This isn't a case of "one vs the other", it's a case of what do both provide. The Switch provides me a way to easily play Nintendo products, while the Steam Deck provides me an easy way to play my PC games. The switch is horribly outdated, but comparing a device engineered in 2015 to one engineered in 2020 is a no brainer the one in 2020 would win on a technical level...
I give the undisputed victory to the Deck any day, for many reasons. But that's not to say the Switch is a bad device. It's a miracle they can get Tears of the Kingdom running at all on it. And I'm hoping if a Switch 2 comes out, that Nintendo releases texture packs to that game... plus, I kind of hope Nintendo ditches Nvidia and goes with AMD Z1 Extreme like in the Ally...

People shouldn't buy the steam deck because they should invest more on their pc.
The only good reason why to buy the Switch it's because Nintendo games are there (idk much about Yuzu but doesn't look good, dolphin is already having problem handling gcn games) and those games are enough reasons.
