  • Hey guys! Welcome back to another episode of my Third Eye Blind Guitar Cover Project. In this week’s episode, we are looking at “Never Let You Go,” which is from their second studio album “Blue” released in 1999.
    I had a blast recreating this iconic tune off this very underrated record. I spoke with original/founding Third Eye Blind bassist Arion Salazar, and he gave me a lot of insight about some of the contributions on this track. He noted that he did roughly "85% of the guitar on Never Let You Go" which includes rhythm guitar and the infamous lead melody lines/hooks. Additionally, Arion wrote the bridge riff while lead guitarist Kevin Cadogan handled the solo at 1:58-2:15. Lastly, vocalist Stephan Jenkins provided the fingerpicking which is in the 2nd bridge.
    Overall, it's easy to see why NLYG was a smash for "Blue." Great hooks, chorus, and more lead to an iconic track. A big thanks to Arion Salazar for filling me in on this info as I will always give credit to him and his co-writers for their contributions.
    Thank you to everyone tuning in and be sure to like and subscribe to the channel if you have not already.
    Cheers!

      Totally! Stephan & Kevin together were amazing and Brad is a tight drummer all around.

    Interesting that Arion said he helped with about 85% of the guitar for this track. I'd heard rumours for a while that Stephan basically begged to have solo writing credits, promising to make it up to Arion in other ways.

      Yeah that’s what I heard. I think the fans deserve to know who really contributed to these songs and the amount of writing they did. I’m very thankful that Arion has given me the info he has because before it was a big mystery. 3eb are nothing without him and Kevin Cadogan.

    I’m a huge 3EB and Kevin Cadogan fan, this is by far the best cover I’ve ever seen. How do you play the chorus? I play it with power chords and it just doesn’t sound quite right. If you ever have time to make a tutorial I’d love to watch it! (Also respect for using Cadogan’s guitars)

    • @BDKelso2000

      Hey man thanks! The chorus does have power chords but to get them to ring out like on the album you have to use the octaves. Root and 5th won’t have the same tone. I can always send a private lesson if interested via social media if interested.
      Thanks for watching!

      Sorry for getting back so late! For some reason I wasn’t notified about your reply. I have Instagram which I can DM lessons through. Hopefully sometime in the near future, I will have a patreon page with exclusive content with tutorials and some other stuff. For now, I’m doing lessons privately until that is set up.
      Link to social accounts is in the description.

      @@BDKelso2000 Hey! My turn to apologize for the later reply. I followed you on Insta and sent you a message there a bit ago. If you already saw it, sorry for messaging you here too, I just wanted to make sure you did cause insta messaging rules can be weird. If you're still willing, I'd still love to learn how you play this! Thanks

    I decided to check your channel out because I saw you comment on Nick Fitzgerald's channel. This is the first video of yours that I clicked on and I am impressed! I love this song and the riffs are amazing! You sound so much like Kevin Cadogan!

      Thanks so much man! I’ve spent probably the last decade give or take trying to sound like Cadogan. His tone isn’t necessarily hard to achieve but rather the gear he used is somewhat hard to come by.
      Thanks for watching :)

    Hey what program do you use to overlay the music? I can’t seem to find any that let me do it.

      Hey man! I’m just using GarageBand but there are tons of digital audio work spaces out there. I use Kapwing to create an MP3 file for the song and then transfer it over to GarageBand practice with it.
      Hope that helps :)

      @BDKelso2000  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! I grew up on Santana and still listen to this day. Might have to cover a few of their records. By the way, your name sounds familiar. Do you know Chad Campbell?

    What do they use for that distorted sound at 2:25 mark?

    • @BDKelso2000
      @BDKelso2000  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s just a Creamy Dreamer Distortion Sustainer Pedal on the record but I’m using it alongside my Boss SuperOverdrive SD-1. Arion Salazar, original bassist recorded, both lead and rhythm guitar parts for this song so he might have used Kevin’s gear to record.

    is it just a two string power chord and are you playing it with you pinky and also why... justt curious looks and sounds great!!

    • @BDKelso2000
      @BDKelso2000  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! It’s pretty much root and 5th in the verses leading up to the chorus which then incorporates octaves. I do use my pinky quite a bit.

    Very close to original. Your overdriving the audio level, otherwise 👍
