Zack a couple of things. Keep your eye on the shark bite fittings (check from time to time) as they don't have the best reputation long term. You will also have to secure the PEX tube to prevent it from moving or vibrating. I know it seems quite strong but the vibration and movement of the bus will increase the frequency of any rubbing a lot more than you think so the back and forth *will* damage the tube within a year or two depending on your mileage. Next, your tank mounting seems at best the bare minimum to me and a potentially dangerous point of failure. Your narrow little straps may be rated at 900 lbs brand new and you calculated your water weight at say 650 lbs but that is the static weight not a live weight. Live weight is when you start adding in inertia from driving and turning etc. and that can ramp up quickly. You also shouldn't just look at the loads under "normal" driving conditions IMO because you are in a vehicle so there is always the potential for an impact. If it were me and my beautiful wife lived in the bus I would at the very least use 2" straps with closer to 3,000 lb rating and I would replace the wood screws you are using on your cleat boards with bolts. I would also use 2 x 4's for the cleats not 2 x 2's.
I am not being critical--I only mentioned these things because you strike me as genuinely wanting to do things the correct / safe way and that people are watching your video's and assuming they can do what you do and be fine.

Well done. Couple of tips... get a small piece of rubber 1/8" thick and mount your water pump on it. It will quiet it down considerably. Also, and I made this mistake a while back, you can get the shark bite fittings in plastic, they are half the price and just as durable. Probably a moot point at this time as it looks like your pretty much done with the potable water system. Looking forward to part 2.

Wow guys! First this is awesome that you got your residency. So happy for you....I finally found my little 7 window bus. And ripped out the seats. Super happy to finally have it. I’m just learning that hiccups are a part of this journey. Today we went to Home Depot to get some rustolem to paint the bus and couldn’t get it started. Had to find a mobile mechanic and turns out... We need a starter. He was able to get us going and we are heading to the shop. He’ll get the replacement and install tomorrow ❤️🙏❤️👋❤️

Did you need a couple one-way valves or backflow preventers? One to keep you from back feeding your pump and water tanks when you're on city water. There other to keep from squirting water out the city water connection when your on your pump.
You also used a lot of 90 degree fittings. Is the PEX flexible enough to just make curves? The 90's cause a lot of pressure drops.
Thanks for your videos!! I'm dreaming of having a skoolie someday.

Thanks, in advance for alleviating some of the initial worry about using pex for our plumbing needs. Still haven't even gotten our bus yet, but soon enough we hope to find the perfect bus at the perfect price. Been saving a playlist of useful build videos and a few of yours have landed there for future reference. Thanks for the thorough explanations and model numbers used on what you're using. Very confident that if we mimick enough of the great YT creators/bus builders with our build, we'll be able to save some time, money, and headaches. Much love to you all for these contributions and learning opportunities!

I like your utube video on your skoolie buid but I noticed al lack of a pressure limiter on your incoming city water line. Sad experience has taught me to be sure to have one because we ran into a situation where we had incoming pressure over 70 PSI and our system couldn’t handle so we had a mess to clean up. I don’t know how much your system can handle ,but it could be a nice safety item for your system.

Hate to say it but that propane heater could kill you. It MUST be vented outside. Even with every window open, and the door, I would not use it like that. Either vent it to the roof, which is not difficult to do, or out the door with a extension. Also it is imperative that you put in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your bus. Please don't forget to do that.
Couple of thoughts about your tanks. You might want to put some rubber down under them for protection. They will chaff. When your moving, EVERYTHING in that bus will be moving around. It will rub holes in stuff. The straps are ok, but imo insufficient, but you will find out that either way. I would get a can of underlayment from amazon and spray the bottom of the ujoint nuts to keep water out. Finally, the pex system you put in is good, but you wasted some space doing it like that. Oh one more thing, put a pressure regulator on your city water connection. Some city water pressures are very high. I realize your learning as you go, and the school of hard knocks (which I am a graduate of) will keep you busy, only trying to pass some of that hard one knowledge on. Hope to see you on the road!

What about check valve from what I seen on class a site you need a check valve in your city water line and another in your tank line after the pump or it can push water in to your pump and break it an when you’re tank/pump start pumping it could pump out your city water inlet

  • @PaulDeatherage

You can vent those water heaters outside, which is something you should do so no CO comes into your living space... you're probably fine as long as your back door is open, but it's going to become an issue at some point. I'm betting that a local HVAC Heating and Air service technician could do that venting job for very little. You could do it too, it is going to require you to cut a hole through the ceiling (llike you did for your wood stove) and get the proper vent line and wind cap.
Make sure you have a CO detector in your skoolie too!

Carry a backup pump. In fact, plumb another pump in your water line and use some electrical quick connectors so if your primary pump goes out, you can quickly and easily change to the spare pump. In my RV's, I had to connect a pressure reducer so the city water pressure would not blow the water pipes apart in the camper. Now that was a decade ago so things may have changed. You can vent that heater out the side of your bus with the right vent pipe to be safe.

  • @billk.7889
    @billk.7889 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Two thoughts...
    1. Please, please, please vent your water heater through the side wall of your Skoolie or through the roof. I know you only plan to run it when the door is open, but it’s just not safe to have all those fumes exiting into your living area.
    2. For the shower, you left out an important component...a mixing valve. Your shower at home is connected to both a cold and hot water line via a mixing valve. That’s what allows you to adjust the temperature of the water coming out of your hot water tank. You can approximate the same result by turning down the temperature of the hot water heater, but you’ll still get water at only one temp.

    • @suzannenoel3078

I get that. Your bus is as long as mine. Based on your layout, the water tank which is under your bed in the bus, looks like it's sitting on top of the access point which is in the floor above the fuel tank. I'm trying to find out how you will be able to gain access to to the fuel tank if you've sealed it up. It's the only way to gain access to the fuel sensor without dropping the fuel tank.

Why waste your money on all those elbows? Bend the pex, they sell theses 90 degree clips that the pex hose clips into that forms the 90 angle. The whole point of using pex is the flexibility. When you use those 90’s it’s a hard turn causing resistance and loss of pressure

I would never use Sharkbite fittings in a camper. They aren't very reliable in a house that doesn't move. Putting them in a vehicle that is like a mobile earth quake. For the price of three fittings you could have bought all the brass or plastic fittings in your camper. Simple stainless cinch clamps are reliable and easy to install. Good to see you put your water tanks in the living area and not under the bus.

Don’t use push fittings. If for no other reason than the cost. Get a crimper and use crimps and brass fittings. It’s nearly dummy proof and much cheaper than a million push fittings. Don’t use the plastic connectors in a bus either...use the brass. I don’t trust vibration over time and rigid plastic.
