    In the 3 years I've lived in this bus, this will be the first time I've ever tried to do it alone, which is already difficult enough. To make matters worse, I'm doing it just as the worst of central Oregon Winter is crashing down. This is one of the hardest challenges I've ever faced.

    In addition to wire brushing the top of the stove top vent... once a year it's a good idea to clean the entire pipe because creasote builds up and can cause a chimney fire...

    I just found your channel and subscribed. I am glad you made it okay. We have the exact opposite problem. We live in Southern Florida full time and have a Class A diesel pusher to vacation in. We were getting all set for hurricane Debby when someone got excited and drove into a power pole the day before the storm. It was 94 degrees outside and we lost power for 5 1/2 hours. Once the interior of the house reached 80 degrees we were so glad we had the motorhome and are able to store it at the house. We started our onboard generator and turned on all three rooftop air conditioners. Within 20 minutes we were relaxing in comfort. This was the first hurricane we have stayed home for, but my wife was getting ready for cancer surgery so we didn't want to leave. The surgery went fantastic! We couldn't be happier.

      There are some guys that can be pretty helpless when their wives are gone. (I'm not one of those guys.)
      They screw up their clothes, they can't cook so the only way they can feed themselves...is drive-thru or delivery, maybe bologna sandwiches...if it's already in the fridge. Men need to learn stuff too.

    You never know what you can do until you're forced to do it. My husband was in the armed forces and one of our duty assignments was Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. I'd never lived anyplace that cold or desolate. And it seemed like my spouse was always getting sent somewhere warm to train--Ft. Irwin, California or Hawaii or Guam. I spent my 40th birthday (which is in early February) alone in Alaska. I hated it, but I did it.

  • @hotrodpc66

    You made it. So your situation is exactly why I intend to keep my factory bus heating system. I fully intend to keep the heater core and fan assembly in the back of the bus and incorporate it into my build and build a closet over it and then put a vent screen over the front of that spot so that when the fans come on, it pushes the hot air out that vent into the hallway of the bus. Also, while the bus is idling for 30 minutes to an hour to heat the bus up, I intend to have a DC to DC charger so while it's running, it's also charging the batteries killing 2 birds with 1 stone as an emergency back up system. Also plan on a small generator as another emergency back up source of power to at least run the diesel heater since it takes minimal power, a light or 2 and also be charging the batteries. Basically having 2 back up systems, either running the bus engine for factory coolant heat and battery charging, or generator for back up power and charging the batteries. You do have 3 different sources or heat which is a very smart move. Certainly a great and well planned build and since the factory heat is deleted, I'd just add a small quiet generator. Maybe a HF Predator Invertor Gen, or a dual fuel gas/propane inverter generator. Ohhh, I noticed Archie was more excited to see dad than you were. I'd have been offended. LMAO Great video !!!

    When the shore power does go out. I would think you would have a backup generator of some kind just to have a backup power source. I know people don't like using them anymore if there's no sun for the solar it would keep your batteries charged. Specially in them harsh conditions

    This is why portable power stations are a valuable thing to have. They could easily charge a separate heater and your other electric appliances in a pinch. And some of them will stay charged if you run your engine. But you could easily buy one that will last days. You just need to find a place to charge them.

    I know it's very affordable to live this way, I know you can do it and are smart and can do it on your own too when your boyfriend is not home. But, a studio apt or studio condo is very affordable and has so much more room. You still spend $ to drive the bus, and keeping it warm, adding water and other expenses etc. I lived in a studio and it had so much room and very affordable, it had a little patio for a pet. You can still save money. And be allot warmer. You can have furniture that converts from a couch to a bed. Some studios have a loft so the bed is up stairs and it looks like another room. You can save the bus for travel or use it on your next vacation or rent it out as Airbnb. There's no reason to be in danger when you don't have to. Or pay to park it in a safer place. I would knock on doors to see who can let me park it in the back yard and pay for that space but save on gas etc. There has to be a safer solution, then you freezing where you were parked. I apologize for this comment but you remind me of my daughter and wish you to have a safer life.

    Yay, lithium that won’t charge in freezing weather and a half assed “skoolie” which doesn’t have insulated windows, but does have a dangerous wood stove that becomes a bomb when you crash.

    It’s funny. The average person is not going to have the means to do this.. and the modifications to this bus make living more posh and luxurious than most peoples homes.. it’s laughable these people are so dramatic about how hard this is for them.. this is completely out of touch with reality just like so many in the United States today.. no wonder we have allowed the societal decay to be perpetuated by the establishment such as they have.. good luck when the lights go out for real and shtf.. your money won’t save you.. you who have never held a shovel or swung a pick axe.. or taken and field dressed game or know how to preserve it.. never known a day let alone years of working in the elements.. the natural order cannot be denied in the end.

    • @BasicallyNomads
      @BasicallyNomads  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shut up. What’s funnier is you assuming you know anything about us. I can build a house, wire an off grid solar system and I’ve field dressed a deer. The diarrhea spewing from peoples mouths that think they have something important to add when it’s just literal nonsense and assumptions. You’re just a loser.
