In Episode 07, we continue our skoolie bathroom build and show how to install plumbing in a skoolie bathroom, primarily the skoolie shower plumbing. Our skoolie plumbing system will run off an 81-gallon tank, but for now, we simply rough-in the PEX pipe and SharkBite fittings. Cody’s dad has been a plumber for over 40, so if you’ve ever wondered how to plumb a skoolie, here is step one. We also install the kitchen sink drain pipe. We got skoolie bathroom ideas from all over the place, but TH-cam videos were a huge help to us, and we hope to pay it forward!

Hey guys, thank you for the awesome content. I'm still in the planning stage of my build and am trying to work out what types of fittings to use for my plumbing. I definitely like the idea and simplicity of shark bites but am worried about leaks over time due to vibrations. Have you had any issues with those over time?

SO helpful! I have a question: I noticed your pecs (pex?) are right next to the exterior of the bus. Do you worry about them freezing from being in contact with the metal? Thanks!
They are. Well, we don't spend extended time in freezing temps. there is insulation, though not much, behind the metal. If we were going to spend extended time in freezing temps, it might be more of an issue.

Sensforce No kidding. We’re lucky to have Cody’s dad’s help. We’re also lucky to have Laura’s dad’s help when mechanical stuff is in play! Both of them bring SO much help to the table!
Yes. Currently it has a “private bus” designation/plate. In Texas, in order for the bus to qualify as a motor home we have to meet four out of six requirements (things such as independent heat source, refrigerator, self contained toilet, etc.). We’ll have a state inspection and get him re-titled as a motor home. We’ll cover it more in next weeks video!

Wait, why didnt you guys just use a 90° degree elbow for the Pex tubing at the corner of the 2x3s like with a shark bite. Is having the swooping motion better than using elbows? Which it looked like u guys used sharkbites for the other parts of the plumbing.
Great question. The main reason is to avoid having a fitting in the corner. If the fitting has a leak, there is no way to access it. By using a sweeping 90, we avoid nearly all risk of a leak in the corner.

It looks like you kept the original bus ceiling? We did the same thing on our Skoolie have you run into any problems mounting things into the metal such as wires for your lights or speakers? Also are you mounting your grey water tank underneath? And if so what are your tips for doing so? We are definitely going to be insulating both fresh and grey water tanks? Also we have a side door in the middle drivers hand side of our bus, do you have any suggestions about how we might move around that emergency door with our pex? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get all the info before we start on our plumbing! LOVE what you have done here, VERY HELPFUL!
We have separate videos for the water tanks which might be helpful. We put the fresh inside under our bed and the gray underneath the bus. We didn’t insulate either but we don’t plan on spending much time in freezing temps. You can run pex up and over the door or you can fasten them to the floor and build over them. When you framed the top track of your bathroom framing.. did you skill saw slot that 2x4 like 18,000 times in order for it to bend like that. Or did you cut 3" pieces, to make the curve?
we cut a bunch of grooves in it and soaked in overnight. There's another video about that framing if it's helpful!

What did you use on the floor of the bathroom. The gray mat looking thing
It’s a shower liner. We got it from Ferguson plumbing supply.
How tall are you did you not need to raise roof
Great question (we get that a lot)-I’m exactly 6’0”. We bought an activity bus that had 77” ceilings. We’ll lose ~1-2” with flooring, but we did not raise the roof.
I was going to use Shark bite fittings, but was told that it doesn't do as well in a bus because of the motion and vibrations while driving. Have you had any problems with them?
