I bet all of the viewers were here for the maths part ... ^^
Another interesting video from you that explains the basics of wide stereo sound very well.

Haha, who doesn't like maths right!? Thank you for watcching and for another nice comment.

So glad you and Monotrail take the time to focus on these lesser hyped gems, love this module

Hey I'm glad you like the video. Sumdif is indeed a very interesting module, especially for the size. Thanks for the nice compliment!

FANTASTIC video!👏 The detail of the mid-side process finally made sense of it to me. Loving the simplicity of this module and the potential power it holds.

Great video, I'm about to get one sumdif but I was also thinking about the journalogue bias 2. Is it possible to make M/S with the bias 2 with some routing or maybe do you think the two are not alternative but can work together? For example dividing by 2 the MS sum when converting to LR

I don't think you can do M/S with BIAS 2 two. You need subtraction for that. The /2 is just there to get the levels right at the end but you could surely do that with BIAS 2. If you set the jumper right on sumdif it does that for you though. I use BIAS 2 a lot when I have a bipolar voltage but I want it to be strictly positive and somewhat less hot. Or to just mix signals together (precision mixer) or get a static offset to use somewhere. I used sumdif more as a buffered mult and a precision mixer, and a bit for the M/S stuff of course.

I lost one of my tiny jumpers on the back 😔

Hey! You can buy jumpers online for less than one euro. Not sure if they're all the same, I think if you measure them you'll find a suitable replacement!

@@briesmodular yeah, but usually the 'big' 2.5mm ones. These are very tiny... a micro jumper cap? Possibly on a very old harddrive perhaps.

@@studio48nl I see. That's annoying. Have you tried emailing Shakmat (or contact them Instagram), perhaps they can send you a replacement jumper (or two). If you do, let me know if they don't respond (it will probably take a few days).
