I used to be a Bus Driver for Wilts and Dorset. One day on my way into Poole, the bridge was raised, the tale back of traffic was hidious. It was a hot day, so I pulled up behind a truck and switched off the engine and opened to door. Next thing I knew was a car sounding its horn, I looked up to see a Bus Driver on his day off in his car shouting...Alan wake up. I had fallen asleep, the traffic had moved off, none of the passengers bothered to see if I'd died of a heart attack or anything, they all sat in silence while the truck pulled off. I was called Rip Van Winkle after that
Oh wow, what a funny story, thanks for sharing 👍 I agree with you on the bridge traffic though. I filmed this bridge again back in August this year and the traffic was awful. It was queing right across the bridge and it was a nightmare when the bridge was scheduled to raise.
🤭 - the passengers must check the driver is alright [medically] if he doesn’t appear to be responding to what’s happening in front of the bus - all buses have a smashable glass compartment containing a key to open the cab door to assist the driver, call an ambulance
That looks completely different to what I remember it from old videos of this! Those sirens and barriers are something I've never known of in this country, although I could expect that as it is a bascule bridge. What I like most of all his how the actual structure itself hasn't changed during this renewal, and I also like the thin lights in use here. This is very different to the nearby Twin Sails Bridge. Nice 👍😁
Thanks! Whilst the bridge width hasn't changed the approaches each side seem wider. The visual and audible warnings are quite interesting indeed. In the end, it was worth filming 😎
As far as I'm aware, there is no hinged gate / barrier design in existence for crossings in the UK. The full barrier crossings all use folding skirts whilst the half barriers don't have anything.

Both alarms are Roshini. The first alarm is just an intensely sped up version of the second one. You can tell if you play the first alarm at 0.25x speed
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel It's strange because they're normally on for about 3 seconds before the flashing red lights. But if you're in Ireland, some wigwags have a flashing amber phase before the light goes to a still amber at the same time as when the alarms go off....
It's been closed for ages and delayed numerous times whilst the upgrade has been happening. When I first filmed the Twin Sails bridge in 2017, this main bridge was closed.
Nice Video, but why don't Stop the Truckdriver no the Enginge ? Sorry for my bad English, i never learn this in Scool ! Greetings from the Swabian Mountains near Ulm at the Donau 👋👋👋
Ah if you mean how it lifts then I think this is what's known as a Bascule bridge, but still referred to as a lifting bridge anyway. There are weights that roll backwards, allowing the road span to lift up. Is that what you meant?
My first thought is, “blimey! All that for just an RNLI life boat? You want it to be The Cuty Sark or the SS Great Britain or HMS Victory or something . Lolz
Nice...love that bridge and love the view of the quay when walking over.
Thanks 👍 Both bridges in Poole are really interesting, especially when they're raised

Lovely bridge, walked across it so many timed in my life, great views and great memories.
👍

Almost sounds like a fire alarm.
Sounds like a fire alarm!
Both sirens are fire alarms lol

I agree
I hate watching bridges they make me scard
That’s definitely changed, brilliant vid!
Yeah it certainly has! Thank you! 😎
Notice the very large blue counter-weights, either side of the bridge road.
can you find any other level crossings that use hinged gates in the UK?
As far as I'm aware, there is no hinged gate / barrier design in existence for crossings in the UK. The full barrier crossings all use folding skirts whilst the half barriers don't have anything.
The sirens are Apollo xp95 sirens used in fire alarms.
Oh nice, that's what they are. Thanks.
why does uk use fire alarms for crossing

@@Southeast-planes-trains cool, here in indonesia we use a toa speaker and it sounds like an ambulance
I’m so sad for loving 🥰 stuff like this! But I’ve been like this since I was a kid and I’m 42 so I’m probably not going to change. ☺️🤓🥸
Don't worry, I'll probably still have these interests when I'm much older lol
You should record Exeter canal bridge raising and swinging because now it’s summer it lifts more frequently, it also has 6 e2s alarms.
Yeah I could do but it's quite a drive for me. I'll consider it though 👍
Reminds me of my secondary school's fire alarm lol
Yeah, I've definitely heard those alarm sounds used for fire alarm sounders before
this is my secondry school fire alarm
Yes, a universal sounder/alarm tone. In London, the buses have that for their wheelchair ramp deployment warning
I can confirm as someone who has heard both sirens before they are both fire alarms
Thanks for the video, lots of wind noise though.
Thanks 👍 It's a bit open here and at the other bridge so it can be a bit windy at times
Very nice!
Keep working.
Thank you! 😁
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel ;)
Most entertaining video ever
Thanks 😊
What alarm is being used? I can here Roshinis at the back
The first alarm I don't know, it was hidden in the barrier / light mechanism. And yes, the second alarm does sound like a Roshni.
Could be a Banshee Sounder. Or maybe just another Roshni on Fast Sweep tone.
Both alarms are Roshini. The first alarm is just an intensely sped up version of the second one. You can tell if you play the first alarm at 0.25x speed
OMG that wigwag is cool. And your cool.
Thank you 😎 and yeah it's a very interesting crossing 👍
That's the longest amber light sequence that I've seen on a wig-wag; it was on for about 10 seconds before the flashing red lights!😱
Yeah it is quite long here.

I didn't hear about this upgrade!

The alarm sounds like Barmouths broke one
This level crossing is interesting because I think they’re using a fire alarm for the siren
Yeah, bridges in the UK tend to use different alarms.
The buses in London use the same siren for the wheelchair ramp.
Both sirens are fire alarms yes
I like how it’s the same as a railroad crossimg
Yes, the lights are very similar in design
It is a level crossing
Nice Video, but why don't Stop the Truckdriver no the Enginge ?

Thank you 😊 I don't know why, but it should be turned off when waiting for a while. Greetings from the UK 🖐️
Looks like the left barrier was broken.
As of August, none of the barrier sticks work now
What did the bridge actually do?
It raised to let some boats through
Looks like an RNLI vessel that went through
Yeah it was
I think those are the same ones
That bloody siren! That would give me a heart attack!I prefer bells....good video though.
Yeah, this bridge certainly has got good warning systems. Thanks! 😎
DanielTheRanterVGCP Are the alarms at that lock any different to the e2s alarms used on level crossings?
Ah that's interesting.
Ah cool, thanks for that. That sounds repetitive and also annoying after one minute of it lol
The first red lights sound like a fire alarm
Interesting, the leg didn't deploy
Yeah, it was the only barrier that deployed it's leg strangely 🤔
I liked it best before they changed it. It took them about two years to sort it out
There’s a bridge in newhaven similar to this
Yeah, I've passed it a few times but never seen it swing yet
Yes I haven’t seen it yet. It is super rare to see it swing open
This lifting bridge is doing it wrong. They are meant to stay flat when lifting.
Well that's what is called a swing bridge, instead of what this bridge is, which is a lifting bridge. They are the two most common types.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel You have failed to understand.
