  • Poole in Dorset is a seaside holiday town close to Bournemouth on England's south coast, and boasting a fantastic harbour, beaches and the Old Town which is a travel and tourism destination in it's own right. We visit Poole for a walking tour around the place to see what's here!
Poole is always captivating visitors with its rich tapestry of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and exciting activities. Here's a deeper exploration of what makes Poole such a compelling destination:
*A Seaside Paradise:* Take centre stage at Poole's award-winning beaches. Bask in the golden sands and turquoise waters of Sandbanks, a haven for sunbathers. Families will find shallow areas perfect for paddling, while water sports enthusiasts can indulge in sailing, windsurfing, or exploring the coastline on a paddleboard.
*Europe's Largest Natural Harbour:* Poole Harbour steals the show with its grandeur. Picturesque quaysides bustling with cafes, restaurants, and shops create a vibrant atmosphere. Boat trips weave through the harbour, showcasing the impressive yachts and ferries departing for France. Marine enthusiasts can catch the annual Bournemouth Air Festival, a spectacular display of airmanship, or visit the Poole Quay Boat Show, a haven for boat lovers.
*A Walk Through Time:* Poole's history unfolds as you explore the charming Old Town. Well-preserved Georgian houses lining narrow lanes transport you to a bygone era. Delve deeper into the town's maritime heritage at the Poole Museum, where fascinating artefacts and exhibits bring the past to life. History buffs will be enthralled by Scaplen's Court, a meticulously preserved medieval merchant's house boasting a beautiful Tudor garden.
*Gateway to the Jurassic Coast:* Poole serves as the gateway to the awe-inspiring Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dramatic 95-mile stretch of coastline is a paradise for walkers, fossil hunters, and nature enthusiasts. Hike along rugged cliffs, discover hidden coves teeming with wildlife, and marvel at the geological wonders formed millions of years ago. Organized fossil hunting walks are a great way to unearth ancient treasures and gain insights into the region's prehistoric past.
*Adventures for All Ages:* Poole caters to families with a variety of options to keep everyone entertained. Embark on a boat trip to Brownsea Island, a haven for wildlife and a former hangout for pirates. Make a splash at the Splashdown Waterpark, featuring thrilling slides and water rides guaranteed to bring out the inner child in everyone. Learn about the fascinating underwater world at the Poole Marine Life Centre, where encounters with sharks, otters, and colorful fish create unforgettable memories.
Beyond these highlights, Poole offers a plethora of other experiences. Explore the renowned Sandbanks Peninsula, a haven for luxury homes and celebrity sightings. Take a serene cruise through the harbour at sunset, soaking in the golden hues painting the sky. Enjoy a delicious meal at a quayside restaurant, savouring fresh seafood while watching boats bob gently on the water. Whether you seek relaxation on pristine beaches, exploration of a historic harbour, adventures along a dramatic coastline, or family fun, Poole in Dorset offers an unforgettable seaside experience that caters to all interests.
Choosing just three top attractions in Poole is tough, because it depends on what kind of experience you're looking for. But here are three crowd-pleasers that offer something for everyone:
    1. *Sandbanks Beach:* This award-winning beach is a must-visit for anyone seeking a classic seaside paradise. Bask on the golden sands and turquoise waters, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing with the sound of waves crashing.
    2. *Poole Harbour:* Europe's largest natural harbour is a hive of activity. Explore the picturesque quaysides bustling with cafes, restaurants, and shops. Boat trips weave through the harbour, showcasing the impressive yachts and ferries departing for France.
    3. *Jurassic Coast:* Poole is the gateway to the awe-inspiring Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dramatic 95-mile stretch of coastline is a paradise for walkers, fossil hunters, and nature enthusiasts.

We were there last summer. Our first holiday since 2017 as I was diagnosed with Leukaemia in May 2018…..lots and lots of chemotherapy, complications, more chemotherapy and finally a stem cell transplant. Then along came Covid. So it was a very much longed for holiday, and much appreciated. We didn’t go in the town……stayed by the river and water. It was lovely.

From North Yorkshire to Dorset 🤔. Back to the sea ⛵❤, sounds of seagulls, waves, no tourists (it looks absolutely dead). Love it. 👍👏

Very topical for me. I'm up the road near Wareham on holiday this week. I was in Poole the other day, it always seems to rain when I go there ☔

We really enjoy all your walks. Helps with planning for upcoming trips to the UK. I've noticed that on some videos you mention the date and time you shot, that is also very helpful. It would be great if you added that info to the description for all videos. Cheers from Vancouver Canada.

3:20 They are two rulers joined by two hinged splints. Usually about a foot long each. You can draw a line on a chart with one and then slide the other over to another point and draw another line parallel to the first. It must be early in the morning? I have never seen it so quiet, not even during Covid. 5:55 It's a wierd piece of Art but it's a nice viewing platform. I thought it was pompous and stupid at first but over the years have realised its importance :-) 7:02 Good luck on getting over that :-) 10:55 I thought those things were steak, the price seemed right ... they tasted awful. 11:35 You are crossing over from LUSH, one of Poole's most important places ... Its scent is heavy and flamboyant, Girls love the place :-) 13:45 Poole was here even in the Bronze Age, long before The Iron Age. I tried to tell them that in The Museum but 'what do I know'. :-) 15:34 Lord Nelson has the best Beer in Dorset (honest). 16:30 Holy Crap! Was this in February? If so then you have captured an image of "Promise.D" . 17:09 On the poster, that little green appendix is the overated, highfalutin place called Sandbanks. The yellow thread to its right is Bournmouth Beach extended, it is nice sand. OK Here it is: I quite enjoyed that! I have lived here now for like 30 years and it has changed a lot but it has never lost its soul. It is good that You turned right at T'he Slug and Lettuce' and avoided the typical derelict High Street of Britain today :-)
