I have you beat. I have paper that is 30 years old. It predates the scrapbooking craze. I have done all the techniques Justine showed in her video. Plus I routinely donate to both schools and nursing homes. However I don’t think I have too much paper. I tend to think I don’t have enough time to do all the stuff I want to do.
In another ten years or so I will have to start really letting stuff go because I will not be the sort of person who leaves piles of stuff for my children and grandchildren to sort through.
What I would really like to know is what TH-cam card makers do with all those cards. I don’t know enough people to make that many cards. Fortunately I make other stuff as well.

This video is just so wonderful. I love all the ideas you are sharing with us to get us to use what we have! Guilty as charged here! I'm really beginning to use stuff up instead of buy, buy, buy. I love all of this so much. So much better than watching all the videos that show the newest, greatest, kit of the month that we NEED to buy. I like that you show us the technique or idea and we can take it from there. Keep the great ideas coming my way, Justine. And I love that you are doing these collaborations with other creatives. Definitely understand the scarcity idea. As a kiwi, we have extremely limited availability if we don't shop online and what we do have is fast shrinking. So it really IS a case of once used, gone. However I realised I had a problem recently when doing a small scrapbooking project for my special needs son and found myself struggling. I hadn't enough paper that I was ALLOWING myself to use, even though I have a LOT of paper and I couldn't complete this basic project. So I thought screw it. What's the point of having it if I'm not allowed to use? So I let myself go and I'm now using whatever I want when I want and if it's gone, well, that's what it was designed for. And I'm having the most fun actually CREATING than I have in years!

Justine, I'm in awe that you have been able to let go. That all your patterned paper fits in a box is amazing. I liked how you showed the 5 ways to use up papers without the step by step voice over.
I owned a retail store and taught classes for all crafts paper related. (quilling, cardmaking, papermaking, calligraphy, origami etc.) Scrapbooking had just started (early 90's). We offered archival papers as well as handmade from all over the world and the second largest selection of Japanese papers in Canada. All of those I still have hoarded in a large box under my bed. Too beautiful to use, and there has yet to be a store in Calgary, AB that carries the selection we did...so yes the scarcity thing. Thanks for bringing your 'paper hoarding story' into the open.

But at the same time I really do need to use it because it just keeps adding up. But I definitely do not buy near as much card stock as I once did. A big reason is because a beautiful card making book making shop closed and we no longer have such a fabulous store in our area. The couple that owned it always had the best of every thing, in fact it looked like a Hallmark store but she made everything.

I have plenty of stuff, but one of the things I am also doing is saving cards people send me, used pretty stamps, odd bits and pieces of things. One day I found a card insert in a magazine that was made with some high quality shiny paper. This weekend I made my sister a birthday card. I had all sorts of ideas of things I could use or do and then I remembered the last thing I had made her on my sewing machine. I had spent around 40 hours making it and from the time I handed it to her until she set it down was LESS than a minute which included ONE glance at it. I remembered on that day I had made a promise to myself that never again would I spend so much time on something for her. So the card I made her, I used up bits and pieces, I used an embossed front that I had printed wrong initially on another project, etc. The card still looks nice. I would rather save my 'good' stuff for someone that would appreciate it. I did learn that if someone wants to make cards but doesn't have much money nor a thrift store close by (a source of many of my things) they can collect enough bits to make simple cards on a limited budget. I have found that when people learn you do a particular craft or needlework, supplies just flow into your home. When you get one of those 50% of pads, then you can appreciate and use it if up until then you have been scrounging paper.

Just yesterday, I came to the realization that I would never be able to use the patterned cardstock that I have purchased over the years. I recklessly, used my first piece last night and plan on continuing to use and to donate some to someone that can also use it. Thanks for your tips!

One reason I love Doolebug is that their color palette never changes 😍 It makes their stuff so easy to use.

Thanks for a great video. I just culled a heap of papers and still have more than enough, and I can take them to the school that I work at.

I find patterned paper very useful, and I dont really think I have too much (about a shelf width full). Its very useful to have a choice and they are sooo time saving so I dont have to worry about backgrounds. With my 12x12 Ive found so many uses for them for lining everyday household items and stationary.

Thank you! I just subscribed to Kerry's channel. I don't have a giant hoard of patterned paper, but I want to use it ALL up before I move. I want to move in about a year.
That butterfly looks a lot like a butterfly stamp that I have from the ton. I never thought of using it on patterned paper. I love that idea!

I have never scrapbooked but I do buy 12x12 paper because I make my own envelopes with a WRMK envelope punch board. I've been getting packs and pads really cheap at Tuesday Morning. I really find joy in making patterned fun envelopes! But, that's just me.

I've been using up old 12 X 12 paper by making envelopes with my Cricut for my handmade cards. I think it's fun to make an envelope with an inside pattern that goes with the card. But yes, I have way too much of it!

I love this video, reminding me not to get into the scarcity mentality.
Like fabric I think collecting paper (or fabric) is thinking about possibilities, not so much about doing projects. I look at vloggers and I don't have the papers they have, their art is so beautiful so then I go out and want more to emulate the beautiful art. For mix media I don't even have the junk to draw from to make what they do. Now however, like you, I love making my own paper, I love drawing my own art work (rather than using stamps, stickers or stencils). When I want a stencil I make it (which to me is another art form). I now think not where can I buy it but how can I make it.

I used to feel the same way about fabric...but if I use it, it’s gone. Seeing your great ideas about ways to use the patterned pater is definitely going to be a winner! Bring on some more please.
