For me, not having "bells and whistles" is a pro not a con. Remember, if those "attractions" you mention are on a ship then all passengers will pay extra in their cruise fare, whether they use them or not.
Plus, all those “bells and whistles” take up precious deck space, which is particularly important in places like Alaska. I much prefer the pre Royal class ships. The Sun and Star Princess ships are getting further away from what I’ve always loved about Princess.
For those of us who are a little bit older, the activities that are described in this video as "bells and whistles" are exactly what we do not want to see on a cruise.
Princess has excellent enrichment programs. These really enhance your trip. Taking a smaller Princess ship allows you to dock at more ports and cruise closer to the glaciers.
6 days into our 7 day Alaska cruise on Royal Princess. Has been absolutely phenomenal. Obviously the scenery and itineraries are amazing but I do have to say Princess’s service has been the best we have ever experienced. Absolutely outstanding cabin steward, really good service in the main dining room, bars, and any employee we have come across. We will definitely cruise Princess again, and already want to plan another Alaska trip as we have thoroughly enjoyed the Alaska experience with Princess. Getting on the ship was a breeze in Seattle as well. Hopefully when we disembark Saturday morning, it will also be a smooth process although we are in no big hurry because we have an afternoon flight. Have enjoyed the classic cruising experience for this Alaska voyage. Did not see the need for water slides, go carts and other types of outdoor entertainment activities for this type of voyage. In my opinion, those types of features are more suited for a Caribbean cruise. The food has been pretty good although I wouldn’t go to the Crown Grill again as it was our least favorite meal, and it is specialty dining. The shows also are pretty underwhelming as they seem to sound more like a karaoke competition but again, I wasn’t really concerned about that for this type of cruise, but if that’s something that you really must have than you might want to think about a different line. I will say Princesses Glacier Bay experience is awesome because they bring on the National Park rangers and they have presentations in the morning as well as a narration throughout the ship of what you’re seeing as you’re cruising through the National Park. Unfortunately, our experience had a lot of rain clouds, but it was still amazing to be there and I thought it was very well done. The medallion experience has been nice as well. I like not having to keep up with a ship card and being able to use the app to order food/drinks from around the ship is pretty cool. Hope this helps anyone wondering if Princess is right for them.
Went on Discovery Princess Alaska cruise on May 28th this year and it was fantastic. I like a quiet layed back ship. I got to really relax and enjoy Alaska. Big rides and slides and things also means more crouds and more loud noises and that's just not my thing for a relaxing vacation. The spa and thermal suite was exactly what was needed after a long port day hiking all around. Loved the medallion technology too so nice to just walk into my stateroom or have a drink delivered to my lounge chair. I'm hooked on princess for the experience I look for while traveling. My only concern was having to get off the ship at the end 😂.
@penkoviii I love rain and live in Washington state so the weather wasn't a big difference for me. 50s and 60°f rain in Ketchican and Juneau which is very typical. I found it delightful but I'm not a hot sunny day person.
We cruised on the discovery to Alaska on the last week of September. We are experienced cruisers in our 50’s, but this was our first time on Princess and to Alaska. To be honest, we found it to be pretty boring compared to all our other cruises. We found the crowd to be much older than us (and yes, I know we’re not young either lol, but they were older than us). And for a new big ship, very slim offerings. We were both pretty disappointed in the ship. It wasn’t a bad cruise, but it wasn’t the cruise for us. IF we ever cruise to Alaska again, we will choose a different cruise line and go earlier in the year.
I sailed on Crown Princess in May, my very first cruise. Later I sailed on NCL Jewel. I liked the International Cafe but the buffet on the Jewel was much better than the Princess buffet. I had the Plus package on Princess and Free At Sea on Jewel. I don't drink a lot so the big advantage of the Plus package is that it includes special coffees like cappuccino. On NCL you're stuck paying for Starbucks. One concern I've seen about ordering on the medallion is if you want to change locations after you order. Don't worry. Your order will follow you. I liked the outdoor movies. Princess provides blankets and popcorn!
Strongly considering a Princess cruise to Alaska in 2024. The important things to me are a good itinerary and ports of call, comfortable staterooms, food and areas for relaxation (hot tubs, relaxation rooms, etc.). Your videos have been incredibly helpful!

OVERALL the 7-day inner cruise is a great experience. Food [variety, quantity and quality], service [especially room service], entertainment,[small and large theater], lectures, docking side-trips were memorable. Only slow process was disembarkation. For a 3,000+ ship, there weren't enough elevators and the lines were long. The line did a good job in serving passengers.
Excellent comprehensive review thank you! We are cruising on the new star princess to Alaska in 2026. Looks like they did make modifications to the balcony cabins like you said to now have a sitting area and no shower curtain. So that’s good! 🙂

My experience has been that on the Carnival brands (Carnival, HAL, Princess), the airfares offered are no better than what you can get online and often more since they do not seem to utilize Southwest Airlines. On Royal Caribbean lines (RCCL, Celebrity), the fares tend to be 10-20% LESS than what I can find using other options even compared to Southwest. As usual, depending on your location, YMMV.
The video says that the Princess Plus package includes two premium desserts per cruise, but the Princess website says two premium desserts per day. Which one is correct? (Not that I can imagine eating those desserts more than twice a week anyway...)
We will need to check on that for you. Onboard we were told two for the cruise, but you're right. The website says two a day. We agree; two a day does sound like quite a lot!

The app is actually better than it was a few years ago. Like all the cruise lines it could use some improvements.
@@Eatsleepcruise1 what cruise lines would you say have a better app experience (or are there other cruise lines that are also heavily reliant on an app)? I'm fairly new to cruising so the Princess Medallion app experience has set my expectations quite low. The Medallion tech is cool I must say, but the execution could be further improved.
Agreed. On my last cruise, you could not even pull up the MDR menus on the app. What is also troublesome when I was on the Regal Princess is that our names were displayed on our room where everyone could see our names. Where is the privacy?
@@jlawrence0181 oh yeah we sailed on the Royal Princess and everyone's name was displayed on the tablets outside the room as well.
@@danman367 I also really do not like the fact that my own party knows exactly where I am at on the ship at any given time. You know I tell the wife that I am at the gym when I am really at the buffet ...
I just finished the majestic going to Alaska. It’s a tourist trap. The food was very bland and the service was terrible.
the best thing was having a playstation
Those staterooms...🤮
