    This was one of the most informational videos on Alaska cruising on youtube. Other videos I watched didn't warn about rain, mosquitoes, or mud slides. So, Thank you! For someone that doesn't enjoy the extreme cold, would you recommend July for Alaska?

    • @FamilyAtSea
      @FamilyAtSea  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I appreciate the feedback, thank you!
      We are going back in July again next year, so I do think it's a good time to be there if you don't want to be fighting the cold, but even then you'll have to face some less than ideal circumstances as you saw.
      The rain is inevitable as southern Alaska is a rainforest so it will be hard to get away from that (and it's merely luck if you do).
      Enjoy Alaska... It's a beautiful part of the world!

    Good tips- Few adders- If you want to see more of Ketchikan, choose Princess or Holland America. You won’t need to catch a shuttle to ant from the ship as they port at the town. Also, some of the one way cruises from Whittier to Vancouver stop at Hubbard Glacier. This glacier is huge.

    We went on our 1st Alaska cruiselast year from Seattle ... we missed Juneau due to wave strength but got ship credit so its ok! It was in Oct but gorgeous weather!! In sept we went again from Vancouver to Seward on a back to back! Gorgeous weather again only rained in seward and skagway on one leg. We planned but some things were canceled. It was ok because we had a second chane on the way back. The joy is a smaller ship than the bliss on our 1st trip. Both ships had their high points. Backup plans are essential!! Thank you for the reminder to have an excursion backup plan, and also for the mosquito warning. The mindset reminder is also a great one-no matter the weather or schedule disruptions, any cruise to Alaska is a gift to be treasured. I’m cruising to Alaska next month on HAL, roundtrip inside passage out of Vancouver. I chose inside passage to optimize the amount of time for wildlife watching and for the calmer seas aspect, since I heard that the outer route can get rough. I avoided NCL for this trip because the ships were larger (more people) and NCL docks far from Ketchikan and I didn’t want to spend time in shuttle lines. And I chose a roundtrip vs one-way because airfare was less expensive this way. Those Alaska flights and hotels are pricey compared to Vancouver or Seattle. Thanks again for the tips!

    I’m the perpetual optimist as well. We booked our trip for end of may this year, but with Celebrity. We really wanted to do GB but I was more concerned with the experience on the ship and we don’t have kids. I’m prepared for cancellations as well. I’m curious as to how you can really have a back up? Most of the excursions are very expensive, so it seems like the only back up would be to pay for a different excursion and you wouldn’t get your money back on one of them. What time of year was your cruise?

    • @FamilyAtSea
      @FamilyAtSea  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kristenoliver43 We haven't sailed on Celebrity in Alaska but they're one of our favorite cruise lines so I'm sure they'll be great! You also have the advantage of sailing in shoulder season so while it will be colder than our July sailing, it should be a lot less crowded on the ship and at the ports.
      When we go back this upcoming July (on HAL this time) I will likely book backup excursions as insurance, but you're right that it will involve spending money that I may not need to (but that's what insurance is).
      HAL has longer port calls than NCL did so I may try to get around that by having the backup option not overlap with the primary (i.e. whale watching that starts at 2pm with a helicopter/dogsledding excursion that ends at 1pm). You're right about everything being more important expensive in Alaska though 😔

    I was originally booked on the Encore for Alaska in 2022 and…events. 😂 (Canada was still closed). But I was on the Encore in 2020 RIGHT before the shutdown. I’m going to Alaska next year so on Princess but you know what? Your video was still helpful. I figure you’ll always hear something you missed or some info that nudges you and you Thanh “oh that’s right.” So although I’m working on my packing list and my hotel is booked pre- and post-cruise, your video still had me nodding and thinking “That’s right. What a great idea.” So thank you so much and I’ve subbed.
    Oh and if you ever do a cruise to Northern Europe 😜 (Researching now and booked - September 2026. Always planning).

      @@SunriseSundown77 I honestly had no idea, I've always heard it's those 3 + smaller expedition ships.
      I checked though and you're right! I guess they're just typically not lumped in with the main line cruise ships.
      We have not done Cunard since we typically cruise with our kids but they are definitely on my cruising bucket list.

    I don't mean to be negative, but are you kidding me? I really hope you didn't pack up your family for Alaska without doing your homework. Agreed , like the first person who has watched a lot of videos on Alaska cruising , I have been doing the same for an upcoming Alaska trip in July. The information Evan, has given me is invaluable. I actually think he is too hard on himself, I do not know how you plan for a mudslide. Juneau seems to be hit or miss and convinced me to do my dog sled trip out of Anchorage as we are doing a one way cruise. So watching his video, gave me the perspective of what works and what might not work. Most importantly plan for the unexpected .
