    This is the finest video I have seen to date of applying marzipan to a cake, and the only one featuring blocking the marzipan. I have never seen lightweight plastic blockers before; the only one's I've seen were heavy varnished wooden blocks about three inches thick so they could be used as perpendicular-squares when blocking the sides. I'm going to make myself a pair of them. Thanks for sharing, Annabelle!

    Apricot jam/ jelly was used to hold the marzipan in place. You should be able to get hold of this from all large supermarkets. Or you can even make your own jelly. Check out our site for recipes. Hope that helps!

    You can ice a sponge or chocolate cake but you'll need to roll the marzipan quite thin so it's not too heavy and crushes the cake. Or you could try cutting up the marzipan into small squares, dusting it with flour and mixing it into the batter. Let us know how you get on!

    I have just finished my 24 ,26 ,28cm xmas cakes i've had on the go since 1st Sept. First time ever. The big brand marzipan, 400g for an 8" cake ? I barely touched it and it would crease and break. Luckily, i had 500g of Tiesko's finest cheap stuff on standby. Thanks for the hint about removing the paper completely. I had left it on - keep moisture and 4 feeds of brandy in it. 7 days until Xmas. I think, from what i know, marzi should harden a bit then i will have to decide whether i smooth the cakes with Royal (a bit too wedding methinks), or crest the top. Still the witching hour so i may as well try food colouring and make some decoration type holly and berries and such. Never have i done this type of thing before David Cameroooooon said he maid his own bread in Oct 2013..ish. A warning i read online, "Be careful. Before you make your first loaf of bread, be prepared to never be satisfied with anything but your own homemade fare." Now, age 2 score and four, i am making Christmas cakes. And loving it. As for touching face etc - it's a bloomin' demo cake - not for sale.

    Just 1/2 to 1 teaspoon will be enough. It can be quite overpowering so don't go too crazy with it. Hope this helps. Let us know how your marzipan comes out!

    What exactly is the difference between marzipan and fondant and how do I know which one I need for my cake?

    • @ScoffTV
      @ScoffTV  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Marzipan is made with almond essence so it has quite a strong almond taste which can divide people depending on their love of nuts. It works best as a base between cake and a royal icing or to mould into shapes. Fondant has a more plain sweet taste that works well as a covering on a cake.
