MJ didn’t play alongside as many MVPs or all-stars as teammates as LeBron. But this video left off other MVPs MJ faced such as Isaiah Thomas, David Robinson, and Hakeem Olajuwon just to name a few.
True! And if you look at his Finals comp year by year, he was playing guys who were in the running… 91 - Jordan won - Magic won MVP the two years previous and was runner-up in 91 92 - Jordan won - Drexler was runner up 93 - Barkley won, Jordan 3rd 96 - Jordan won - Payton was 6th, Kemp was 8th 97 - Malone won - Jordan was runner up 98 - Jordan won - Malone was runner up
Compare LeBron’s 8 year run to Jordan’s title years. Comparing East vs West… honestly, LeBron may have never even made it to the Finals if his teams were in the West. LeBron record in Playoffs, 2011-2018: Against East: 96-27 (78%) Against West: 18-27 (40%) Jordan record, Playoffs 1991 - 1998 Against East: Playoffs: 71-20 (78%) Against West: Playoffs: 24-11 (68.5%)
Most of the teams in the west was the favorite to win the title jordan was the favorite they lubed him up like people in the comments with all he needed
You know what’s funny… You can say all that but did Jordan face : - A HOF, a All Star two way SG, a DPOY & a former all star/finals mvp like the 73 win Warriors all on one team ?? 🙂 - or how about two HOF’s, all star two way SG, DPOY, and former all star/finals MvP off the bench all on one team like the 17 & 18 Warriors🙂 It’s ok Jordan’s comp was not all that.
@@jazzroyale7260 LBJ built super teams to annihilate his comp. 😂 but it didn’t work. He played with multiple HOF , perennial all stars, and elite 3 point shooters. All since 2010. And he still lost to the 1 all star Mavs. And the young 2015 warriors team with 2 first time all stars. His Superteams were arguably Better that his competition.

@@eugenebrown6477 naah just pure speculation and delusion without facts. The facts are lebron at a ripe age of 22 got beaten by a 35yr old 90s reject Bruce Bowen, then at his peak couldn't even handle much smaller bench players JJ Barea and Jason Terry, then defeated by the old Duncan and Ginobili. 🤡
Lebron should never have been in this conversation, he media company hypes him up way more than reality. he played in a fewer conference in a weaker era.
After 30+ years of advancements in diet, training, and knowledge of the game combined with a massively bigger talent pool to choose from do to the worldwide growth of the game it's clear the league is way more talented and skilled. The bottom 20-25% of the league talent got replaced by foreign born players who range anywhere from MVP caliber all the way down to role player.
Wrong wrong wrong, the teams in the 90's 6 of them were an expansion team. Michael never beat a team in the 80's and when he finally defeated one when they already out of their prime.
Correct. LeBron averaged 21 points on 42% from the floor for the entire season when handchecking was still allowed. When handchecking was banned LeBron's ppg and percentages improved massively.
@@lookatzay4813 Am I wrong? 03-04 LeBron shot 42% from the floor averaging 21 points a game. 04-05 LeBron shot 47% from the floor averaging 27 points a game. Do you know what stayed the same? His free throw percentages. So he didn't become a better shooter. It just became easier.
people see Jordan's competition in the playoffs and finals and there's only 1 star on the team and they think Jordan faced weaker competition. but that's not true. teams were just built differently back then. most teams had 1 star that they built around, sometimes 2 if they fit well together like Stockton and Malone. in LeBron's era, partially due to his own decision to form a super-team in Miami, a lot of teams tried to get 2 or 3 superstars together to form super-teams. these teams on paper seem more intimidating but they had no depth. just look at the Suns this year as an example of how that kind of team building is very risky. the only reason it worked for the Warriors so well is because their stars were all drafted and on cheaper contracts. i do think LeBron has faced better competition in the Finals, but he also got to so many Finals because he was playing in an atrociously weak Eastern conference. LeBron beating the 73-9 Warriors might be a more impressive single Finals victory than anything Jordan did (if you don't get into the Draymond suspension), but the overall body of work favors Jordan (slightly), in my opinion.
Also, many "superstars" today are overrated, they are not tht good to earn the term superstar, they're just super famous for the NBA but they're stars at best. A duo like Malone and Stockton today is arguably superior to whatever 2 you choose from the Clippers, because they have too many "stars" that just don't work well together and can't really carry their own weight on defense. More like a bunch of Divas.
Newsflash: Building around your best players is called good coaching and management, and it exists in every era. You only named the Suns, and the only other superteam in recent memory besides them is the 2021 Nets. But what they have in common is that both of them went nowhere, and had hack coaches in Voguel and Nash, who expected KD to bail them out of everything. And also just completely left out how the super-teams that DID go anywhere recently(Heat/Warriors/Spurs) did so because they had both talent, AND respectable coaches(Spoelstra, Pop, and Kerr) to build plays to their players' strengths. So yes, the fact that there were less hall of famers that Jordan faced in the finals DOES mean he had less competition, because the good teams now operate in the same way good teams back then did, but now have more talent to work with.

Part of the reason LeBron has faced some of that great competition is because as a Laker he’s been on some lesser overall teams. When you’re a lower seed, you’re gonna face tougher competition. If you take away his years in LA, the numbers would not even be as close as they are.
Anybody that airballs freetrows will/can never be the GOAT. ITs embarrassing that Lebron has airballed a free shot from 15 feet. The level of competition Jordan faced was far superior to what LeBron was faced because the commissioner admitted to changing the rules to benefit players in this era and specifically named Steph Curry but the rules were changed before LeBron’s second season started. Also several of the superstars and Hall of Fame players including the potential Hall of Famers have also played with LeBron and helped him win championships. He also missed the playoffs 4 times.
But once he got a little help look what he did also missed the playoffs cause he was injured with the lakers they were number 2 seed when he went down so put an asterisk by that
A lot of times we forget how tough the teams were they didn’t end up in the finals against Jordan. New York was crazy good in the early 90s, as were many other teams.
In just 12 years he faced the same number of stars that Lebron faced in his 20s, that is an indication of the fiercer competition that Jordan had in his time.

It's as simple as this: have you ever seen Michael Jordan play basketball? Ever seen that, even just a highlight reel? Better to have seen actual games, but the mixtape makes it pretty well clear. If you've seen that, how is this a conversation? If you haven't, you should just stop talking. BTW equally revealing would be lowlight reels of both. Lebron's would be an endless litany of shame. Whereas, for MJ, I'm pressed to think what you'd even put on there.
The main factor about this whole "debate" is that the NBA eliminated hand checking in 2004 which favor lebron style of play and even Adam Silver admitted, they got rid of hand checking to allow for more scoring in the NBA which does change things a little bit.

This last year, the media has made that MJ played against lesser competition, this proves them wrong. If you guy does not stack up against another, you must brig the other down somehow. Take away the 3-pointers and Lebron does not even pass MJ in points, Lebron took over 5K MORE than MJ over their careers.
Plus the league today sucks when there's no defense and everybody can just wander there's no handshaking no resistance the game sucks none of these people in this era are any good all they do is shoot threes and nobody gives a s***
There is one thing that makes this unfair and that is variety. Lebron had to face the same team 4 years in a row, meanwhile mj got more variety. It’s not an accurate comparison because it doesn’t tell the full story
Not having that 3 second rule was big part of teams strategy to trying to slow MJ down. One could argue had the 3 second rule been added MJ wouldve had even more success.
I will simplify it even more - Jordan was coachable and knew he had to improve every year, he had 3 insanely tough years before breaking through the pistons. LeBron thought and probably still thinks he is the best and doesn't really need a coach thus doesn't really get pushed the way a GOAT should. (Reference brady and belichek) Props to LeBron for longevity and stats but that's really it.
Great video, MJ played much better playoff comp than Bron, a few corrections here, you showed Jordan’s 29 HOF opponents and said the number 27, it’s technically 30, Christian Laettner has been inducted into 5 different Hall of Fame clubs including the FIBA Hall of Fame, Polish American Sports Hall of Fame, U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, College Hall of Fame and most importantly the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, even if it came as a member of the 1992 Team USA 🇺🇸 Dream Team it still counts, you also forgot Chauncey Billups who got inducted this year, Penny Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Tom Chambers, Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, Alvin Robertson, Bill Laimbeer, Glen Rice, Shawn Kemp, Buck Williams should be in HOF! Playoffs MJ faced 40 HOFers to Bron’s 27.
How many HoF players did they each face on a consistent basis? Jordan would have a huge edge in THAT category. Jordan also had to beat tougher players en route to each finals appearance.
One dude lost to the WCF 6 times the other beat the WCF 6 times theirs a huge difference. One team vs 4 different teams. One scored 8 points in the finals the other has the highest ppg in the finals. One was swept twice in the finals with 2 gentlemen sweeps one has never seen a game 7 in the finals what's the comparison?
Lebron has all the God given physical blessings to be the GOAT. What was missing was the fighting spirit and mental fortitude of a GOAT. MJ we miss you.
Well all I know is Jordan was 0-6 and swept multiple times in the playoffs against the Celtics. Greatest individual player but Bird was the greatest team player ever. LeBron ain't near the greatest ever.
@@vernonhurley1300 How much help did MJ have? Those Celtics and Lakers were loaded with all-stars and Hall-of-Famers. Of course, you don't want to mention that. You had some good numbers there. I don't think these kinds of numbers can definitively determine who faced tougher competition, but I think they do show that it's close. I think it disproves the argument that Jordan faced weak competition.
The major difference between Jordan and Lebron facing tough competition is Jordan got tougher when the competition was tougher. Lebron when the competition got tougher folded like my mom with the clothes fresh out of the dryer in the 80’s and 90’s.
His first point is the one I always make. LeBron has more physical advantages and played more games, but he still hasn't accomplished as much as MJ. He should be blowing MJ away. It shouldn't even be close.
Where'Clyde, Charles, Shaq, GP, Kemp, Penny, Reggie on Mike? Balco only dealt with Durant and a very old Duncan and Kept losing to Softys Stephanie, Klay and KD. That was even the cup cake era of NBA. mike Dawg it out when NBA was still playing REAL men Basketball.
The debate is manufactured by media that can't create enough hype because they lack. . . .well. . . .creativity. Proof is that how can he face a bunch of MVPs when he IS the MVP? How can he face a top team when they ARE the top team? Media are clowns.
Keep comparing eras for as long as you like and you'll never see the end of these discussions. Just enjoy the games. Basketball is forever evolving, and so are the players.
Yes, Jordan played much tougher competition in the playoffs. The only thing LeBron has is facing the KD/Steph Warriors but he got his butt kicked, Jordan would never
Lebroom is just Karl Malone...If Karl made just one more fg and one 3 per game or 2 fgs more, with Malone's +3000 rebounds but -3000 pts, one could argue they are equal! Yes, No? The only difference would be in assists Karl having half as many but that would only justify how the pace of game and in and out play through Stockton and others...Thoughts?
This is crazy. Taking the players and not putting them into context of the teams they were on is so much fun. “It’s just what the numbers say” is wild with no context. Lebron has had to play dynasties with multiple arguably top 10 players. Curry, Duncan, KD, Jokic. Then you put the TEAMS into context it is night and day LeBron
so lets just erase everything from the record book prior to 2004 because everything else players accomplished before then shouldn't count because all those stats were accomplished against a bunch of bums instead of the superior athlete of today.
You are kidding right ? The team concept was deeper in the 80, 90's. Everybody was playing defense, if you did not you were on the banch including superstars. A Lebron in the 90's not getting back or saying he is tired would get it from the team, teammates and coach. It is a different era, but man do player get away with a lot nowadays. The complaning all the time would be technical in the past, a Larry Bird playing with Lebron would probably have punch him for not getting better effort or getting is butt in the post. A kobe teammate to Lebron would have yeall at him for not getting better at his fondamentals. The game of basketball is played to win the rest is secondary and on that Jordan is unmatch compare to Lebron. No threepeat even when he was in Miami with a weak east is just bad.
Jordan dominant period was during the expansion era which turned the 90s into a gap of true superteams compared to 80s and the later team ups of Dunan and Robinson and Shaq and Kobe and finally the Big three in Boston and you've basically needed almost a super team to win since. In the 90s you simply couldn't have as many stars on any team because there was suddenly more teams and teams had to drop players as with the Bad Boys no longer being the Bad Boys after winning their first title and losing Mahorn to the expansion draft. Any all time player who played in the period would have competed under the same conditions and it's just a factor of their date of birth that renders this dynamic absolutely irrelevant when people focus on it in terms of how many greats were teammates and opponents on individual teams they faced when winning. Lebron played on more stacked teams and played more stacked teams and that evens out on both sides and makes it a non point. These more stacked teams played under different rules tho which creates enormous difficulties as to concluding which teams are better and you can't just look at rosters and numbers and also when stats are now so inflated by a ton of more possessions a game.
A lot of the super teams that have formed since 2019 were derailed by injuries and the virus and biased officials have carried LeBron to the playoffs in recent years especially the last two seasons.
Another way to look at this is Which player had the better teammates!!!! Lebron purposely stacked the deck by collusion several times!! Even Lebron made the statement about the Heat = "not 4,not5, not6, not 7 = expecting to win rings almost every year with that team. Jordan never colluded or failed in the Finals ( and Jordan never flopped and complained like Lebron). If you are the goat, you do not proclaim it = you let others say it for you!!!!!!
Stockton over guys like Westbrook who have won MVP and CP3v who most would rank with next to or above Stockton? And why not Shaq for Bron too? He played him in the playoffs
No matter how hard they tried to make Jordan looked better than LeBron. The numbers still tilting LeBron's way. Individually, LeBron ruled Jordan, but team wise Jordan had the advantage.
of course lebron played more games then micheal jordan because he been in the league alot longer then jordan lebron came in the lead when jordan already had retired they was changing the rules then and they never stop
MJ played during a tougher era when bums weren’t scoring 20-40-50 pts on any given night like they do today. There’s no defense, traveling is clearly allowed, and you can palm the ball in today’s game. That matters a lot when it comes to offense. Lebron is a manufactured superstar that was literally babied into this league and played most of his career in the weakest era of eastern conference basketball. Funny to note how he can’t win since going to the west coast. I know that he won during the pandemic, but nobody counts that due to limited competition. The bubble was a complete joke, and shouldn’t count at all.
Very cool comparison. This doesn't take into accout the level of skill in either era, though. I would love to hear an argument about how today's NBA players are all a product of MJ, being much more skilled, and athletic becuase of the advances in training. I say if you drop LBJ, Paul George, Luka, KD, Devin Booker, etc into Jordan's era, they would be UNGUARDABLE! There was the hand check, though. Shaq, was one of the main things that affected the league, in the 90's, because every team had to carry multiple big men to be able to defend him. This probably stunted the growth of skill bigs , because you're just gettingguys who can handle being bullied by Shaq. Jordan never played versus an Embid, Porzingis, or Jokic. You can say MJ played against better comp by the numbers, but you're comparing apples to oranges when it comes to skill level.
Mj didn't play against as many MVPs because he was the MVP. That alone should tell you everything you need to know.
LeBron only has one less MVP than MJ but LeBron hasn’t won it since 2013 so that’s 11 more seasons plus the early years he didn’t win

From a team perspective, the teams from the late 80s and 90s were better and more difficult than today's teams.

MJ's points were done the hard way. Many times the opponent tried to hospitalize him.
Not only did Jordan have better playoff competition, but he made the playoffs more often while he was playing.
people see Jordan's competition in the playoffs and finals and there's only 1 star on the team and they think Jordan faced weaker competition. but that's not true. teams were just built differently back then. most teams had 1 star that they built around, sometimes 2 if they fit well together like Stockton and Malone. in LeBron's era, partially due to his own decision to form a super-team in Miami, a lot of teams tried to get 2 or 3 superstars together to form super-teams. these teams on paper seem more intimidating but they had no depth. just look at the Suns this year as an example of how that kind of team building is very risky. the only reason it worked for the Warriors so well is because their stars were all drafted and on cheaper contracts. i do think LeBron has faced better competition in the Finals, but he also got to so many Finals because he was playing in an atrociously weak Eastern conference.
Forget all the numbers, LeBron doesn't even carry himself like a G.O.A.T with his behavior.

Not having that 3 second rule was big part of teams strategy to trying to slow MJ down. One could argue had the 3 second rule been added MJ wouldve had even more success.

Playoffs MJ faced 40 HOFers to Bron’s 27.

The major difference between Jordan and Lebron facing tough competition is Jordan got tougher when the competition was tougher. Lebron when the competition got tougher folded like my mom with the clothes fresh out of the dryer in the 80’s and 90’s.

It the way the game is played criteria and rules changes and the path they took who strikes the most fear
I think you should use a multiplier for the amount of times each player faced said hof player
Why whould you try to make the list a more accurate representation of what it's supposed to reflect. Stop with the reasonable ideas.
Funny how you didn't mention Kobe who had way tougher comp
It's not even close, it might as well as far a distance to Jupiter.
Shocking truth is just to ignorant people. The rest of the people who know basketball knew these truths
Great breakdown of how you explained everything with actual facts. The GOAT is MJ. Lebron fans try to bring the competition up to justify losing.
You forgot hakeem kareem kevin mchale and many more that mike faced.
Stockton over guys like Westbrook who have won MVP and CP3v who most would rank with next to or above Stockton? And why not Shaq for Bron too? He played him in the playoffs
Jordan beats everyone outside of their prime bruh
That has nothing to do with who is better tho stats are the only way to say who is better at the game and lbj are better
No matter how hard they tried to make Jordan looked better than LeBron. The numbers still tilting LeBron's way. Individually, LeBron ruled Jordan, but team wise Jordan had the advantage.
I didnt grow up with mj but ive always thought lebron james is the best and i was rooting for golden state. Im from denver
"That one right there made me the greatest of all time"- 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😅......unbelievable !!!!!
of course lebron played more games then micheal jordan because he been in the league alot longer then jordan lebron came in the lead when jordan already had retired they was changing the rules then and they never stop
So your saying the maverick’s wouldn’t dub that trash defense back in the day they played way faster
At the end of the day lebron faced better players someone has to be an allstar in a bum era
MJ just back it up there's a time you have to be the man the bulls just bully the NBA
MJ played against more hall of famers.
Jordan face 3 top 10 players,magic,Bird,Shaq
Lebron using #23 is cringe
I believe he chose #6 because that's how many rings the goat has.
Kobe faced the toughest competition!
Uhh what about Kobe???
Well said disagree because he wasn't in the Western Conference in his prime so that a dumb narrative
LeBron played in a much weaker era.
