the good old days, when tv broadcasts of games just showed the games, not a bunch of banners and ads running across bottom of screen. When viewers were smart enough to keep track of the score in their heads. When tv announcers talked mostly about the game itself, and did not ramble on and on nonstop about every bit of minutia and over analyzing every. single. fricking. play. all. game. long. God we miss you Keith Jackson.
The most dominating performance that I’ve ever seen and I’m 53 years old. It was art, in the way that Miles Davis played jazz. Frantic, chaotic, breathtaking but in a masterfully controlled way. It was beautiful to experience. Signed - A rabid Ole Miss fan.
Boy, Tommy Johnson was about a hair away from blocking a punt on at least five different occasions there. David Palmer was a once in a lifetime athlete, they really should have just stuck with him at QB rather than bouncing back between he and Burgdorf after Barker went down. It really hurt the flow of the game going back and forth between them, but that bomb Palmer threw was a beauty. Guy had a wicked arm along with being one of the most shifty players ever and having hands like glue.
I was in Engineering School at Ole Miss at this time. But I wasn’t a rich kid. I worked weekends in Memphis. I got home in the last 5 minutes of the game. Lots of people don’t know we had a problem of rich kids throwing liquor bottles. Happened at the end of this game too. Memories. Good and bad.
