David Palmer with all his highlights was still under used and would've been a statistical freak in the right offense! Bowden made sure Warrick got his touches any way possible and targeted him atleast 10 times a game no matter the coverage scheme. And Stallings and bama offense just wouldn't gamble that way or break script to force him the ball. And we all missed out on even more greatness than Palmer already provided
In all fairness to Stallings and Mal Moore, Palmer missed the first four games of the season due to suspension. I imagine that neither wanted to hang their offense's hat on Palmer, not knowing if he could be reliable. Palmer had an incredible season the following year - 1993 - finishing third in the Heisman voting. Ironically, Bobby Bowden heavily recruited Palmer, who chose to stay in state with Alabama.
This game to me defines Fall, both teams colors look like fall. The game should always start at 3:30, hopefully Tennessee gets better so this could be a decent rival again.
He may be one of the few coaches to beat Alabama 4 times in a row....I'm not sure if Pat Dye, or Jordan or Vince Dooley or any head coach from LSU was able to do that.
Had Johnny Majors not been in a rather quixotic power struggle with Phillip Fulmer during this stretch of the 1992 season, Tennessee would have made a much better showing in this game. I will not say they would have won for sure, because this Bama team had a death squad on defense, but UT would have probably scored some more in the first half with Fulmer calling the plays. Yes, I know Fulmer was nominally the OC when Majors came back, but he was overruling everything Fulmer was calling at this point. Fulmer had this young team hitting on all cylinders while Majors was recovering from his surgery. He should have taken the season off and come back in 1993. Fulmer was making rather liberal use of the passing game, and Tennessee was really putting up some offensive numbers, but then back came Johnny, and in the Arkansas, Alabama, and South Carolina games, he went back to trying to run between the tackles, which is something that young offensive line was not up to against Alabama or Arkansas. The players played harder for Fulmer also.
I've always loved Johnny Majors but you may be right, Fulmer may have been willing to take more risks not sure. It's a shame things began to fall apart between the two. Nobody really knows what happened unless you were on the inside. I do think Fulmer had a burning desire to have Johnny's job though, I don't know how much a factor that was.
Why in the world would you not kick the almost sure thing field goal to go up three scores in the third quarter? I understand you've been running the ball extremely well and that your defense wasn't likely to give up two touchdowns, even so it is something I don't understand. Defense got the job done anyway because hell that is what the '92 D did, but it absolutely should NOT have come down to a one score game.
+mathompson53187 As a UT fan I was stunned at this. Not kicking got UT back in the game in a way. They were never really in the game but if they kick there it is completely done. A great effort by UT. Had those teams played 10 times, this would have been out best game.
+mathompson53187 Stallings kind of misread the game momentum at that point and outthought himself. He wanted to stick the dagger in, but UT wasn't quite dead yet. UTs defense had gotten hit in the mouth in the first half, and he didn't realize that UT had taken the blow, recovered, and adjusted. He thought the UT D was done, and he was wrong.
Tennessee getting paid back for the backstabbing of Johnny Majors. Florida went 11-0 over UT Alabama currently has an 11-0 run vs ut. KARMA for Johnny Majors. The true Southern Gentlemen.
This was one of the top 2 or 3 Defenses in Alabama football history.
No one called college football better than Mr Jackson
Wrong.
Jabra was better.

The Bama staff was trying to win a championship, not glorify 1 player. That's Bama football..
Little did Majors know, but the secret witness, was sharping his knife to stab him in the back.
Phil Fulmer is egg suckling dog.I hate that bastard.
@@victorcornelius7948 Fulmer is still reaping what he sowed. Karma can be a bitch.
We love johnny in Tuscsloosa he sucked

I don't know why they don't play in the home colors anymore, Alabama crimson and Tennessee orange jerseys. I hear its bama who won't allow it.

Fullmetal was nothing but a big fat bull frog.
Knifed majors in the back.

Was this when Saban had Lane Kiffin as the offensive coordinator?
Saban is the HC of Michigan State and Lane is in High School somewhere
Saban is the QB Kiffin is the RB.
