That Flutie block against the Jets was a thing of beauty. You don't see QB blocks very often but when it's a good one it's one to remember for a while at the very least.
Gotta remember Drew was like 6'5-6'6 200+, he wasn't super mobile but he was a big ol' boy. If he ever connected with somebody he could transfer some kinetic energy.
I think thats why my dad loved Theismann so much as a 'Skins fan. He was a tough SOB, as we already knew with the front teeth situation and wore the single bar facemask, which begged to be grabbed by defensive players. Broke his nose 7 times with it. But this clip only further substantiates that while he was a man who loved the cameras, he also was a guy willing to do what it took to win. Thanks for making this video because it helps paint a different picture on some of the leagues best.
I was pretty ambivalent about Theismann early on his first couple of seasons as a starter were statistically solid but he seemed to lack the leadership that his predecessors Kilmer and Jergison had but this play on one of his worst throwing days made me a Thiesmann fan
All his blocks were illegal under the knees blocking. He should have been flagged for everything. I want but of course it's the patriots and Tom Brady. They never flag anything on them p******
Really? The entire Jets Defense ran around Brady to avoid hitting him in the last video clip. Ridiculous, considering how often Brady has stuck it to the Jets. Perfect opportunity to lay him out.
Wanna know why Johnny U is the GOAT? 7:04, dude comes from probably 20+ yards out of the play to throw a block. He was completely out of the play on the other side of the field and was heads up enough to see it come back to his side and throws a block to secure a TD.
I like the one where Montana took the LB out of the play with a straight up man on man block. Most of the blocks were cuts or blind-sides where the player wasn't paying the QB any attention.
9:44 Favre proves he is not a human being. Favre ran a 6.1 40 with the Falcons. Here you see him running step for step ahead of Donald Driver who ran a 4.45 40. Here you see Farve drop a block on Orlando Thomas, who also ran a 4.45 40. If Farve were a human being, he could not make this block. Somehow, he gained super speed and super reflexes out of nowhere.
This video is absolutely crazy, I’ve never seen a video of QBs throwing blocks. Rare video, I’m enjoying it!!! Usually, they try to protect QBs, instead they’re throwing these QBs to the wolves, lol.
Great video, love watching the glamour boys get down and dirty. When they are sitting in their rockers they'll remember those blocks they threw with greater satisfaction than the passes they tossed. Note: Johnny U use to design plays that called for him to block.
Most Quarterbacks also played Safety, in High School. As a Running Back, I hated getting hit by Quarterback/Safety Players. They had good timing and knew when to transfer collision hits, better than most players.
@@PedroMartinez-tt7lrYep, that statement was true back in the day but not now. Specialised training is more common than ever in young kids. Kids that play QB start early and focus on that position.

You caught Charlie Batch when he was with the Lions, but you missed his Classic 3rd stringer now in the game, Stillers vs. the Ravens . It may have been his last action in the NFL. If course the game was a Nailbiter alll the way, but Charlie pulled it out IN Baltimore, driving his team for a last second 40 some yard field goal . Sometimes in the 3 rd quarter of that game, down around the 10, the Steeler back cut left, and No one was there for Help. Batch saw this and flew out front, and blocked off the incoming Pursuit, and the back ran in standing up. Incredible selfless team play in a Rivalry game from a clipboard guy, who really had the Chops, when the Chips were down. Charlie Batch ...total Grit, and All Class!

I love seeing QBs doing this. I know owners and coaches want to save their arms but you don’t realize until you actually do it that simply being in the way of a defenseman, can make all the difference, and you’re still not likely to get hurt. You don’t have to layout a guy. It looks badass but you don’t have to do that to be effective.

That Flutie block against the Jets was a thing of beauty. You don't see QB blocks very often but when it's a good one it's one to remember for a while at the very least.
Yeah smart how he changed direction to get enough momentum to get him off his legs
Flutie also made a similar block in 1982 Penn State vs BC ..year PSU won Nat Champ
I remember that one as well he was one of my favorite QBs.
Judging from this video, throwing a block against the Jets is a rite of passage or something for Bills QBs.
Yeah that was a beauty.
Is the block by Jamarcus Russell the best, highest-effort thing he did in his entire NFL career?
"He said I was FAKE! I don't CARE if I get fined!"
"...They're cheering?"
I was about to say, that's probably the greatest play of his career given his career.
He should've moved himself to offensive lineman. He obviously had the weight necessary to play that position 😅
Nah. He had a few decent throws.
Akili Smith, though. His block was his highlight play.

There was a really good one I saw in person in 2009 where Matt Hasselbeck ran out in front to block for Julius Jones and took out two Rams defenders.
Also Hasselbeck's iconic block in the Beast Quake run
