I googled it … It's an old docker's term. When people put things on a ship, they used a crank called a donkey. They were very slow and when they were asked how long it would take, they said “donkey's years”. They also wore donkey jackets … I had to!
My family finally had Christmas today! No snowstorms or covid but there was a pretty nasty thunder storm before the family arrived. We draw names and my gift was a $50 gift certificate to a fabric store. When everyone went home it was time for a glass of wine and sewing vlogs. I love your Anthea blouse, absolutely fabulous. And the rest of your many makes were also beautiful. I was at the local thrift store with my daughters and granddaughter and found a sheet printed with fancy cocktails. I plan on making a summer peasant blouse. It will be the closest I get to drinks on the beach this year! Enjoy wearing your many makes on your holiday!

OMG... such good makes!! The idea for the embroidery and matching buttons on the white blouse is awesome...the slip dress looks fantastic on you.. Enjoy your holiday :)
You are not alone, I can enjoy making binding too. I have a tool where you insert the fabric strip and it comes out folded on the other side which you iron as it comes out. Super quick and easy
Ruan I'm always laughing when you say funny things.my husband says what you laughing at .I says nothing he thinks I'm bonkers laughing at the phone.your are brill and I love all that you make.im 74 years young only gone back to sewing in the pandemic I sewn for my children when they were little. Xx
I am very impressed with all your makes and not sure which one I like the best. I love the boxy top you are wearing and the saltwater slip dress. What a great idea to put the embroidered flowers on the Anthea blouse❤️ it’s good to know that you enjoyed making the Eve dress and I think it really suits you. It’s still on my list 😃
Great blog this momth, lots of new pretties, you have done yourself proud.. I normally try to select a favourite in these types of videos but you really did hit the mark this month in choice of fabric and patterns.. No faviorite one as, they were all smashing makes and how clever you made a dent in your stash so while on holidays, if you see something of interest, you got space !! Enjoy your holidays,
Oh I know exactly what you mean. That’s why I sit down once a month and try to make my decisions. Then I cut them all out in one go so there’s no going back 🤣
Hello there look at you go girl Beautiful makes You have great thoughts on every make about the fit and everthing looks amazing You will have a great suitcase full of clothes for your holidays I am just making tshirts and I was worried that they arenot to fitted in the bust and then loose fitting in the body wondered if they were to boxy but yours looks great and obviously it's a style lots are wearing I needed tshirts but not form fitting to many humps and bumps lol So thank you Happy sewing Take care and look forward to seeing more
Lovely makes Ruan. I'm not a fan of a strap dress, but I really love your Saltwater Slip and I think I'll give that a go. I'd need to wear it with a T underneath, but I think that would work. So many lovely makes. Well done and thanks for sharing all of the detail 😻
Very lovely makes 🤩. And with all these completed plans this month you should print out a certificate of accomplishment (or at least a virtual one and drop a pic at the end of the video) 🤣. Thanks for sharing.
I laughed when you said you hate trying on your makes! I start sewing fully dressed and realize when my husband pops in, that I am down to my underwear, because I try on after each section. I always wondered how people can possible sew so quickly :) Now i know why , just don't waste time (??) trying on your make. 😂
😍 It was so lovely to have you in the testing team and I look forward to tempting you into the next one! Your Hailey Shirt is beautiful and thank you so much for all the lovely compliments about the pattern and the testing process! ❤
Lovely makes, I also hate trying on my makes half way through making them too. I made a saltwater slip in February, I loved making it I thought it wouldn’t fit so I’ve only just tried it on recently! 🙄 But yay it fits, one of my favourite makes 😆
I've been watching all your videos and can say...you've got some fantastic fabric over there that we just don't! We barely have fabric stores! All my buying is online and it's a hit and miss. I love to see the beauties you find. (In northern California)
You have such nice fabrics there and it seems in Australia as well after watching Dahlia Society. We just don't have nice fabric here in the US, so sad, unless you quilt there are some wonderful quilt fabrics out there but I don't do that anymore. Unfortunately shipping cost are so high it prohibits even ordering online these days.
I agree. I’m in California too. It’s hard to find good quality fabrics. I’m not a fan of joannns. I purchase online: confident stitch, mood sometimes, blackbird and minerva
I just made the saltwater slip dress and want to make 7 more. I did have to take it in a lot because it was too big on the bust. I have very narrow hips so I took it in all the way down too.
YAYYYYYY! You get to go on another holiday and you’re planning on sewing for it. This is the first vacation for me that I’ve made a whole wardrobe for the vacation! Shock! Except for a couple of Lisa Comfort short vintage cardigans and one pair of jeans, it’s all me made. Unbelievable. I really enjoyed making the Eve Dresses too. They seem to look great on most people (including YOU)! I’m amazed that you did all the hand embroidery on the sleeves of the Anthea blouse. That’s awesome. I thought that it was in the fabric. Cool beans. Have so much fun on YOUR holiday and we’ll “meet back at the ranch” as they say in America, LOL!
Wow! What fantastic makes, love every one of them especially the Anthea blouse, the daises look amazing, brilliant idea and that white fabric is gorgeous! Have an amazing holiday wearing all your lovely makes 😀🥰
The blouses are just beautiful, especially the daisy-embellished one and I loved the wrap dress! I like seeing what you end up sewing from the fabric you show in previous videos. I hope you have a lovely holiday.

Love all your makes Ruan but especially the Anthea blouse, thanks for sharing with us. However I’m having withdrawal symptoms, I broke my leg 3 weeks ago and it’s going to be a long haul, so no sewing for me. Also we should be going on a family holiday to Turkey next Monday but we’ve had to cancel so I’m very jealous about your holiday but I hope you have a great time.😂
Ruan, love the white top with the daisies sewn on the sleeves! I really like the small print on the dress, it's really pretfy! The second dress is also gorgeous! 👌 Ruan you sure have made some nice cloths for your holidays! Have a great time!
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I’m totally in love with the first two tops, although all of your makes are stunning! Enjoy your makes on holiday and the holiday itself.
Well done you Ruan my body measurements are about the same as yours and I’ve never made a wrap dress because I didn’t think they would look good on me. The eve dress looks wonderful on you but I understand wanting to make a few tweaks here and there. Have a great holiday
Wow! You HAVE been a busy bee! 😂 I absolutely LOVE your saltwater slip dress, the fabric is BEAUTIFUL 😍. I went to Fleetwood Market last week and bought loads of gorgeous buttons. There were thousands of them 😳 I could have spent all day just rummaging through the boxes. They were so cheap too.
Fabulous makes, I love your Anna Allen blouse, it’s so pretty. I’ve just sent the Florence pattern to be printed too so looking forward to making that.
Absolutely brilliant makes, Ruan - I love everything but I think my favourite is the boxy tee. The fabric print is stunning. BTW - my first Cherryz box arrived today. I literally ordered as soon as I finished watching your last video on Thursday night. Amazing. So thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to your next video and happy sewing. Xx
Thank you Melanie. I can’t believe the fabric for my boxy tee had been in my stash for so long. It was obviously waiting for the perfect pattern! So glad you’re happy with your Cherryz order 🍒
Lovely makes! Good to hear that the Eve dress is a nice sew, that's what I want to make using the fabric from the first think pink box ☺️. I'm so tempted to try out the Sicily slip dress now I've seen yours and Tamlyns versions. Are the straps quite simple to do with the slider things?? Xx
Aww that’s great to hear that you’re going to give it a go. If you’re unsure of anything reach out to people on Instagram and we’ll all be happy to help 😊
I made the rhea dress after seeing yours on instagram same fabric and it’s too big! Obviously the lined bodice! So it got chucked in the corner but now you’ve said you ran up with the overlocker👍yes thank you going to do the same 👍 love your Anna Allen blouse mmm might have to purchase that pattern! Have a fabulous holiday xx😎
Yes go form it Lesley because it’s a gorgeous dress! I’ll definitely make it again but just size down 🤪. The Anthea blouse is just beautiful. I think you should treat yourself 🎉
Awww thank for such a lovely review 💋💋💋 I have to say it does look fabulous! BTW I think the saying is ‘donkeys years’ as if they’re longer that ours?!?! Xx
The saying that I know is ‘For Donkeys Years’ meaning ‘for years and years and years’ obviously donkeys, similar to dogs age differently to us so you count it in years or ‘donkeys years’. Somewhere some lazy person dropped the ‘years’ off the end.

Omg! That’s brilliant 🤣
@@theyorkshiresewgirl I just couldn’t resist the urge …. I’m so sad 😂😂😂
Huh, that's so interesting! I'd always assumed it was a Cockney Rhyming slang thing. Thanks for the info!
My family finally had Christmas today! No snowstorms or covid but there was a pretty nasty thunder storm before the family arrived. The daisy embellishment on your blouse has changed it from lovely to stunning, such a great idea. Gonna pinch that one! 😂😂😂
Aww thanks Heidi! Go for it 🌸
The Hailey shirt and Eve dress look fab. The fabric choices really make them. Well done you!
Thank you so much Lynn! 😊
I'm in NYC with southern roots and we say "haven't.... in a donkey's age" just means a long time.
Yay!
OMG... such good makes!! The idea for the embroidery and matching buttons on the white blouse is awesome...the slip dress looks fantastic on you.. Enjoy your holiday :)

Hello there look at you go girl
Beautiful makes
You have great thoughts on every make about the fit and everthing looks amazing
You will have a great suitcase full of clothes for your holidays
I am just making tshirts and I was worried that they arenot to fitted in the bust and then loose fitting in the body wondered if they were to boxy but yours looks great and obviously it's a style lots are wearing
I needed tshirts but not form fitting to many humps and bumps lol
So thank you
Happy sewing

Thank you so much Joanne! Yes I love the fact a boxy T-shirt hides all my lumps and bumps too 🤪🥳
Lovely makes Ruan. I'm not a fan of a strap dress, but I really love your Saltwater Slip and I think I'll give that a go. I'd need to wear it with a T underneath, but I think that would work. So many lovely makes. Well done and thanks for sharing all of the detail 😻

Ha ha! That’s a fab idea 💡 🤣
All your makes are fabulous! And everyone of them looks great on you, even the Eve Dress, you need to go ahead and wear it!

Love all your makes but I particularly like what you have done on the sleeves of the Anthea blouse, really sets it off and lifts to something special.
Thank you Yvonne. I couldn’t keep it plain could I 🤪

Ahhh... lovely stuff Ruan 😍👌. I love Experimental Space patterns and love the Evelyn blouse too...your shirt is gorgeous 💝👍😘

Well done you Ruan my body measurements are about the same as yours and I’ve never made a wrap dress because I didn’t think they would look good on me. The eve dress looks wonderful on you but I understand wanting to make a few tweaks here and there. Have a great holiday
Yes I’ve never been sure if a wrap dress would suit me but I think I could make it work with a few tweaks. Go for it 😊

🤪. Thank you!

Oh yay! Hope you like it 😊
