Didn’t know that one! Will definitely try it! My biggest complaint on this topic is sun lotion on white t shirts - maybe this tip will work on this problem too!
What a fabulous mini wardrobe you have planned! I can envision the pieces as gorgeous outfits. Can’t wait to see them made up, especially the pietra pants- I’ve been debating if that pattern will suit me. If your husband wears and really appreciates garments made by you, by all means make him something. From The voice of experience, I wish my husband was still around to sew for. 😢. It’s been 11 years but I still have some of the garments I made for him and remember making matching polo shirts for him & my (at the time) young son- great memories. Not trying to be morose just a nudge to embrace the fact he’s asked you to make something for him. 🥰. Wish you all the best with your plans.
Morning Ruan, I made the tropical shirt for hubby 3 times and the last one was in a viscose that he chose. Black background reds pink turquoise, Avery you kind of fabric. I actually thought of you when he chose it. He loves all of them and wears them in rotation. Great pattern and they have a sew along and I watch it every time I make it. Not because it’s hard I’m just lazy. Have a fantastic weekend. Val❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Hi, just catching up on your videos as I have missed a few due to ill health. Firstly loved the look of your projects, even the ‘solid’ trousers and blouse patterns. Think the leopard skin cropped jacket will be beautiful and thought of you when Fabric Godmother were showing it on Instagram. Previous to this video I watched the Scottish frocktails and saw the black jumpsuit you made and thought how nice it looked. I also wanted to say the look on Rachel and Tamlyns face when you walked in to surprise them was heart warming. To see the love between the three of you was magical. If you can I would elevate the hubbies shirt to top of your list for helping you get to frocktails as I know it was his birthday weekend too. Don’t think you are being ambitious, (topish of my list is a Fleur blouse) look forward to seeing all yours made up ❤
@@theyorkshiresewgirl thank you. My friends have helped me through my journey and I am so pleased to see a group of friends supporting and loving each other as you do ❤️
You're so funny..I love the animal print for a jacket and it will look delicious with all your other plans. I really like the material for your husband's shirt also. Sounds like you're going to be a very busy seamstress!!
I've also started to realise the need for plain garments to go with the patterned ones :) currently sewing up a,True Bias Have skirt in white cotton hobby :) x
Yes yes yes!!! this is my kind of sewing! I mostly use SOLID colour fabrics and make co-ordinating garments. Love the idea for the animal print jacket! You just gotta have some animal to pep up black haven't you. I'm not really a floral person but sometimes step out of my comfort zone and go for it.. Plains are an absolute basic to mix with patterns. Good luck hope you get them all made. xx
I'm just in the process of selling most of my commercial / big five patterns because I've found that I have to make too many modifications to get them to fit me correctly. I've found that there are a few Indy pattern designers that draft in a way that works for my body better. Less modifications. I often find the construction methods on commercial patterns are quite awkward and Indy patterns are generally more logical.
Back in the day, all dress shops offered scarves for use in the changing room so that you could try stuff on without getting make up on them - I always have a scarf to hand for the same purpose - try it and never worry again about discolouring your blouses!,,, 😊
That leopard 🐆 print denim fabric 😍😍😍😍 I went and bought 5 metres of that black modal jersey after you showed it the last time. It's such a brilliant quality. Your makes all sound amazing. I have more 'solid' colour fabrics in my stash to prints and way too much sweatshirting and jerseys. I need to increase my viscose collection and try to be more daring with my prints. Can't wait to see your garments. They will look amazeballs I bet ❤ ❤❤❤
I think the le perlines jacket will look fabulous with the rydal jumpsuit and the black pietras - you’ve got 3-4 outfits there and it’ll come together beautifully 🫶🏻 oooh and I’m jumping on the modello rydal twinning 😂 totally enabled by a certain two lovely ladies (I wonder who they could be 😂) ❤❤❤
Ambitious, well, for me yes, for you, I don’t think so. Go for it. love all the “solids” and patterns to go with. Wager: Ko-Fi coming if you make them all. Good luck. I love animal prints (big this fall season). The idea of a bomber jacket, great. Yes, yes.
That kobalt blue linen looks so great and also the animal print! Really nice pattern and fabric combinations that you picked Ruan. I just finished my Pietra Pants in View A with the cropped length. They are so nice, but the initial fit on me was way too loose. I removed 4cm on the front seams (Pieces C and M) and maybe 5-6cm would have been even better. Now I'm considering the side zip, if I sew them again. But nevertheless, a great pattern and so elegant in black! Happy Sewing!
Great plans! Don’t forget the Big 5 show you yardage needs, so with 3 metres, that’s 3.3 yards, and like someone else said, they tend to overestimate needs, so should be find for the sleeveless view.
Your plans appear to be very sound, and dare I say it, very sensible. I love the plans for the 2 white tops……stylish indeed with the black pants. Seems a tad ambitious, but you never know.
I just watched Ivory Blush Roses and she has five videos on different ways to attach Rick Rack : heaps of embroidery stitches with metallic thread, sequins and beads. I’ve not seen Rick rack used in years. Think it will be on my shopping list now. ❤❤❤
Just finished watching your Vlog. That tropical shirt pattern is just like the Hawaii shirt pattern I just bought for Larry in Hawaii! Tee hee. I also bought him a Hawaiian shirt and Kona coffee chocolate cover macadamias. It’s really hard for me to not snitch a couple of them! So many sewing ideas for you. LOVE the red Peppin tote. Also, I just bought the new Baby Lock Applaud top coverstitch machine! Check out the TH-cam video by Brad Martin to see what it’s all about. It’s a wild new machine that not only does cover stitching but embellishments and top cover stitching like athletic wear manufacturers use. Hugs from Oregon. Judi is currently in the Dublin airport waiting for her last flight home…
The animal print will look great with that jacket + with the solid black trousers/white blouse + with the jumpsuit - that will be a great mix & match of outfits. So many plans but if you could do your hubby’s shirt for his birthday that would be good. If after your hubby shirt you could concentrate on your black & white items - then the jacket - that six to aim to get done. Good luck🤞❤️❤️
Oh my word Ruan!!! Some big 4/5 patterns I can't believe it 😂. Wow I hope it works for you and then you may become a convert and encourage more people to branch out?! I love Sew Direct and the 'club' means bargain patterns. McCalls will be right up your street. Good luck ❤
I call it solid fabric, not plain at all. Love the cobalt blue. The leopard cropped jacket will be so fun. I think a crop at the waist will help define the waist and will look great. I quilt and sew clothes and have not sewn a garment since last summer so I am hoping to do some fall winter things.
Love your plans-and I would even wear the leopard print with the cobalt blue dress-if it was long enough not to interfere with the belt, etc...Great ideas-and I am certain you will accomplish all-I didn't hear you set a "deadline" date, unless I missed it some how(?) the only thing is the shirt to get that done in time for your husband's birthday!! :+) That leopard print is the bomb. Do you mind having the high neckline on the "Fleur"?? Does it choke you when sitting down-or moving around?? Do you know what I mean?? I'd like to know before trying it out... Thanks for a fun vid!! Enjoy your weekend!! :+)
I love your videos Ruan, you're so bright and fun. Are you making a video of the bag you made for your mum and other recent makes? I'd love to see them
Great selection of makes Ruan - a mini capsule wardrobe. The leopard jacket with all the solids will look amazing together. I can just picture you in them. I’m just finishing my last Summer dress make and then I need to think about sensible planning for what to do next. Your vlog has made me want yo focus more on a more co-ordinating pieces. Very inspirational. Good luck and you’ll get it all done I’m sure. Who needs to sleep when there’s sewing to be done! 🤣 Have fun.
Love these plans! All of them will pair so well together! And you will definitely get the dress out of the 3m. Maybe the tie is a ridiculous long piece that you could piece together to save fabric?
Love how ambitious you are with your plans honey, but I actually have EVERY faith you'll get them done! Just signed up to Skillshare too - thank you! xxx
I’ve made my husband a couple things by Wardrobe by me and really like the results. The instructions can be a little spotty, but I found a sew-along on TH-cam that was helpful.
Great vlog as always. You will look stylish and stunning in your new makes and especially your boxy jacket celebrate your body don’t hide it. Thank you for the vlog you really cheered me up. Am making some Pietras at the moment the narrow leg version ❤❤❤
Lovely plans, the jacket will most perfect foe all the rest of the makes which are gorgeous. Love the bag, need me some noodlehead patterns. You go girl, beautiful plans, catwalk please
Woohoo your blue linen is even more beautiful than I imagined!! 😍😍 It’s going to look great on you.. Thank you for the shout out 😘😘 and lemme know when you make a start on yours- although you’ve made me think I probably need to make sure I fit into the size band of the pattern i have! whoops 😅 xx
I’ve been looking at the McCalls shirt dress for ages - will be very interested to see how it comes out for you because I’m slightly concerned that the ties may be just a bit much ie a bit bulky - but I do love the idea! 😊
I did enjoy that and those fabrics are very easy on the eye. Gorgeous blue dress, black versatile trousers and a black jumpsuit, plus 2 white tops....I think you are a solid convert..whoop, whoop. We all need em in our wardrobes don't we. Good luck, though I fear you will be sidelining your hubby's shirt in favour of everything else. Let's see.....great vlog Ruan and different too! X
oooh I’ve got the most gorgeous broderie anglaise fabric ❤ it’s white with red flowers hear & there & I think either the McCalls top or the Fleur top would look great in it 🥰 what u think Ruan?? that animal print denim fabric is absolutely gorgeous I’ve never seen anything like it before 😳 & I just love ❤️ love ❤️ love ❤️ it 😁 can’t wait to see all ur plans made up 😁 lv ya happy sewing hun xx
I have made exactly the same thing! Black Pietra wide leg trousers in that exact fabric 😂 I did slim the legs in as they do come up VERY wide. I’ll try and remember to ping a photo to you 😊
Wow, you’re ambitious 😅. I take FOREVER just sewing one thing 😂. I’m making my first Donny shirt. It’s a toile but I’m hoping I can wear it. So cross fingers. We all need “solid” garments in our wardrobe 😁. They give us so many more mix and match choices. Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
Great plans Ruan and there are a lot! I think the jacket fabric is a lovely animal print and will be perfect with the trousers and jumpsuit. I expect you know but the finished measurements on mccalls are usually on the tissue pattern pieces. Looking forward to seeing what you get done. 😊
Well Ruan, you always entertain very well, I love your enthusiasm, you always cheer me up and make me laugh. Yes, I think you are a bit mad to think you can make all of these makes, but I will be looking forward to seeing what you get done LOL Happy sewing xxxxx
Great variety - I love solid fabrics. I prefer them to patterned though I do like a beautiful print. It depends how long you upcoming season is as to whether you can get them done. I think you will make the tops and the trousers and the jacket definitely then perhaps the jumpsuit and possible hubby's shirt. I always put other people's stuff before my own - it tends to weigh too heavily on my mind if I don't get it done - so it's always a double win😂. I'm guessing the dress and the bag will be delayed... So that's my bet - 6 out of 8??? That's good going.😎❤ Plus Happy Birthday for next week 🥳🥳🥳Party ON
Loving the cropped jacket pattern😍. Another one on my list. Look forward to seeing your comments on how it makes up, instructions etc. Great plans and fabric/pattern pairing -I don’t work and they would all take me a month to so good luck 😂😂😂. Happy, productive sewing😮. Lynne
Ah Ruan, grateful minds and all that?!!. I too have the cobalt ramie to make either pietras or a jumpsuit/overalls. I missed out on the modal jersey but hoping they get it again, otherwise some other black stretch for a wrap (or faux) jumpsuit. I love your idea for the jacket though I'm not brave enough for the animal print, I have some nice canvas and Jacquards. Your makes will be fab and just think haw many of your beautiful tops you can team up with the black pietras. Best of luck with it all Angela
Lots of great plans! Love the blue linen and shirt dress pattern. Not sure what sizing works for you, but I think 18 may be too large. A really helpful video on Big5 sizing is Solving the Pattern Fitting Puzzle- it’s an old video from Nancy Zieman. Also there’s a shirt dress challenge for September. I’m making the WBM shirt for my nephew. Happy sewing, Ruan!
I love all of your plans Ruan! I also have a brown and black leopard print denim and I plan to make a jacket, but I’m very intimidated by the thought. I have a Mimi G pattern in mind so I hope there will be a video to help. Good luck with all of your plans. They’re going to be gorgeous!
I had always avoided making a jumpsuit because of the faff of going to the loo but found a Butterick pattern B6330 for knit fabrics with only one button at the back of the neck. Very easy to peel off. Apart from shortening 2 inches above the crutch and 3 inches off the hem (I’m 5’5”) it is quick to sew, easy to wear and fits incredibly well. Ended up having to make another straight away.
Ooh! So many great plans, can’t wait to see how you get on 😃 I also think a black dobby top would look stunning with the pietra pants and the animal print jacket though 😍
Go for the cropped jacket! Ive just finished one, the Pattern Emporium Smitten, and i absolutely love it. I never thought id wear cropped, as i am generously proportioned, but it looks wonderful in my humble opinion. Now i have to find an animal print denim, i just have to!
Some great plans there - I look forward to seeing the finished items - I think you are ambitious but I agree it's better to aim high! The cobalt blue linen is beautiful and I think will look stunning in that dress. Happy sewing!❤️
Love your plans. I don't want to say it but that is a lot of plans! However I agree with you, aim high!! The animal print denim jacket is going to pair so well with many of your plans.
If you think you might want to dye your white tops, then think about the fibre content not only of the fabric but also of the thread. Cotton and viscose take the Dylon home dye colour well, but it doesn't have much effect on polyester. So any stitching with polyester thread will still be very white.
re tropical shirt you will easily get it out of 2m, I tend to get 2 shirts out of 3m for someone who is 6 foot. (hubby likes to have 2 of each) you can easily cut out the yokes on the bias and it works brilliantly if your fabric is a bit narrower. It's also a super quick make (afternoon). wardrobe by me have a great TH-cam video that works brilliantly in tandem with the written instructions
You have totally inspired me to get the Petra Pants pattern and in black also. I do need a solid black pair of pants. Anxious to see all you makes you've shown. Happy Sewing!

Love your plans. The black and white garments will go with other things in your wardrobe. Love your sense of humor.
Top tip for stopping make up transferring on white garments….. spray hair spray on the inside of the collar and let it dry…. It works so well x
Didn’t know that one! Will definitely try it! My biggest complaint on this topic is sun lotion on white t shirts - maybe this tip will work on this problem too!
That Dobby fabric is gorgeous Ruan. I just love a freshly laundered & ironed white shirt 🩷
What a fabulous mini wardrobe you have planned! I can envision the pieces as gorgeous outfits. I love your plans. You are hilarious, and it was a pleasure to listen to TH-cam. I can't wait to see all the wardrobe. 😂❤
In my opinion the denim jacket in the fabric you chose will look fabulous.
You have beautiful taste in fabric , I love all you have chosen.
Thank you so much!

I've made the Tropical shirt for my hubs, a wearable toile, he likes it and it was a nice sew.
Ooh fab!
I love all of your plans and they will definitely look beautiful

I do the scarf thing when I’m changing outfits over and over for TH-cam videos! Works a treat
That leopard 🐆 print denim fabric 😍😍😍😍

Aww thanks lonely. That modal jersey is gorgeous isn’t it!
I have a crop rtw leopard denim jacket - goes with everything 🦖
Oh yay!!
I have the rydel pattern have bought red and black jersey….love the jumpsuit……never too ambitious 😅😊❤
Love love love all these plans ❤
I’ve never been drawn to animal print fabric, but, having seen yours …………. Thanks Ruan!!! 🐾🐾

Love that animal print for your jacket Ruan...will be gorgeous and all your solid (quilting term) fabrics will just help to show it off xx Karen
Thanks Karen x
Sometimes a cropped sweater/jacket, can minimize the tummy rather than accentuate it.
Love the idea of the animal print crop denim jacket will look awesome with Pietra pants, two tops and jumpsuit!
Your plans appear to be very sound, and dare I say it, very sensible. I love the plans for the 2 white tops……stylish indeed with the black pants. Seems a tad ambitious, but you never know.
The animal print jacket is going to look fabulous and will be set off perfectly by the bold solid colour garments 😍

Hi Ruan, linen comes from the flax plant, so all I can think of is flax linen is 100% linen 😊
The tropical shirt is my favorite for men. Can't wait to see your makes video!
Love all your makes, look forward to the finished projects, I’m sure you’ll whizz through them 😊. Happy sewing.

Gorgeous! Several challenges but super awesome. As I told my daughters when 7t7 were growing up: Dreaming is cheap so dream big!!❤❤
Woohoo your blue linen is even more beautiful than I imagined!! 😍😍 It’s going to look great on you.. Thank you for the shout out 😘😘 and lemme know when you make a start on yours- although you’ve made me think I probably need to make sure I fit into the size band of the pattern i have! whoops 😅 xx

Yes, Dolby fabric will be a great Summer make!❤
Wow what fabulous plans … there’s a lot but I reckon you’ve got this 👍👍❤️
I’ve been looking at the McCalls shirt dress for ages - will be very interested to see how it comes out for you because I’m slightly concerned that the ties may be just a bit much ie a bit bulky - but I do love the idea! 😊
Beautiful plans, looking forward to them all. I would like a catwalk! 💖💖💖
I love your enthusiasm such a fun video looks like the pieces will go together brilliantly 👌😎
If you decided to dye your fabrics don’t forget to use a cotton thread too as there may be a problem dyeing something like Guterman
Love the cardi, where have I seen that before? 😁 fabulous plans, can't wait to see Steve's shirt

So that's my bet - 6 out of 8??? That's good going.😎❤ Plus
Happy Birthday for next week 🥳🥳🥳Party ON
Loving the cropped jacket pattern😍.
Great plans ahead looking forward to the makes😊😊
Lots of great plans! Love the blue linen and shirt dress pattern. Not sure what sizing works for you, but I think 18 may be too large. A really helpful video on Big5 sizing is Solving the Pattern Fitting Puzzle- it’s an old video from Nancy Zieman. Also there’s a shirt dress challenge for September. I’m making the WBM shirt for my nephew. Happy sewing, Ruan!
I'm making a Brumby Skirt in that animal print denim
: 0)
I love all of your plans Ruan! I also have a brown and black leopard print denim and I plan to make a jacket, but I’m very intimidated by the thought. I have a Mimi G pattern in mind so I hope there will be a video to help. Good luck with all of your plans. They’re going to be gorgeous!
Never made or worn a jumpsuit before but seeing the roadless in jersey I might be tempted to! Can’t wait to see all your results. Happy sewing
Your plans are amazing! 🖤💙🤍
You have a mini capsule wardrobe there, great plans
Ooh! So many great plans, can’t wait to see how you get on 😃 I also think a black dobby top would look stunning with the pietra pants and the animal print jacket though 😍
Ooo that blue linen is beautiful. I bet you can get the sleeveless one out of your 3m.The cropped jacket will be awesome, perfect planning !!
Love your vlog think you are very ambitious. Will look forward to see how you get on. Recon you will be sewing night and day. Xx
Fab plans can’t wait to see them all x
The pietra shorts version = very cool! Wearing a pair of mine today on my holidays
